  several years ago i was contacted by a well-known (actually famous and well-published) professor from the university of california at san diego and we had lunch.

  he bought lunch.

  doesn't everyone write books to make a whole big bunch of money?.

  Does Someone Have to be Religious to Be a Good Person?

  this is something my wife and i were discussing the other day .

  in a general view of religious people - most religious people feel it makes them holier, better, or on a higher moral plane claiming to worship god in an organized religion.

  in the jehovah's witnesses view - the outside world is evil, and they claim that if you get away from their religion , and " fall away" a person is doomed to go astray, doing various sundry things like murder, adultery, stealing, orgies, because " they claim " that they have fallen " out of " god's favor.

  in a general view of religious people - most religious people feel it makes them holier, better, or on a higher moral plane claiming to worship god in an organized religion.

  Mr. Flipper,

  I have to say I agree with you. Even though I was born into the borg, I can honestly say that I have met more decent people outside of the wt and outside of organized religion. So in my opinion, you don't have to be religious to be a good person.

  Hello! Is there a list of WTS changes since 1995?

  a young friend told me about this discussion forum.

  i completely "stopped" being a jw around 1995. i was wondering if there is a succinct list -- somewhere on-line -- of changes/events that the wts has gone through in the last 12 years?

  i haven't received any of the publications or really spoken with any jws in many years.

So just chill out. Additionally, the fact that 1935 is no longer the cut off date for the sealing of the so-called 144,000 means that they have essentially already said that 144,000 is not literal, as any person with some sense of math would realize.   Hello Mr. Ted,

  You can add these to the list: Witlesses can vote. ( According to wt questions from readers in 2000 Although this is in print, they would probably suffer cngregational discipline if found out.)

  Witlessescan take actual blood fractions, or a combination of certain blood fractions. Basically they can take blood now. (According to wt article from June 2000. Again although this is in print, they would probably be disciplined if found out, depending on the elders in their cong.)

  Here is another very significant change: The sealing of the 144,000 was not completed in 1935, as was taught to witlesses for all these many decades. According to a flicker of their latest "new light", their heavenly calling is still going on even now.

  144,000 is no longer considered a literal number. It has now been revealed to the witlesses as being symbolic. (Interesting since as you know from reading COC, one of the reasons Raymond Franz and others were accused of being apostates and were kicked out of the org, was because they believed that 144000 was not a literal number.)

  These are just some that come to mind right away.

  There is a writing called "The Priestly Source" which shows that the bible book of Genesis, including its creation story was written by Jewish priests during the Jews captivity in Babylon. This source also shows that the creation story of Genesis was written only to counter the creation story of the Babylonians. The Genesis myth is similar to the Babylonian myth in which their male god defeated one of their female gods and cut up her body and then created the human race from it.

  If Genesis was written only as a countermeasure for the Jews against the religious culture of the Babylonians, then it is obvious that the bible book of Genesis was not inspired. Think about it: Why would the so-called god of the Jews, Jehovah, wait until the jewish nation was in captivity before giving a so-called inspired account of how humans were created? It doesn't make sense.

  And if Genesis was not inspired, then the entire bible is not inspired.

  There were times even while in the org, that I felt the account of creation in Genesis did not measure up. Now of course, by knowing the scam that religion and the wt are, I know that the Eve from adam's rib myth is just that. A myth.

  The story of Adam and Eve is false. It is illogical that "god" would create mans female counterpart from the mans rib. Why do that? Just directly create the female.

  And what is the point of making a command not to eat of a certain tree? And then because of the disobedience to that command, the entire human race is plunged into so-called sin, disease, war, poverty, famines, pestilences, etc. etc. etc. continuing thousands of years after this disobedience allegedly occurred. It doesn't make a bit of sense.

  There is also no proof that the events described in Genesis ever happened.
