How did we EVER do it all?!??!?!
by poohbear1962 inthere has been something that has been bothering the "engineer" part of me for a lonnnng while.
we have heard it from the platform time and time again about what we should be doing as "servants of god".
so, today i finally sat down and calculated if it is even possible to do all of the study, meetings, field service, secular work, school, etc, etc.

Last thought on Iraq
by freedom96 inthere seems to be a lot of discussion these days about iraq, even on this site, which i think can be handled in one easy illustration.. if your family was mugged, and the mugger without question is going to shoot and kill them, but you have the opportunity to shoot and kill the mugger first, would you not do it?
no time to discuss the consequences with the mugger, cannot discuss with said mugger on how he would "feel" if you shot him, no time for anything.
if you do not react, he will kill your family without question, without hesitation.

Freedom96, I've been thinking about your thoughts expressed in the last paragraph, a lot this last week.

God's channel withholding information
by ballistic inover the history of the watchtower society, they have published numerous medical articles with warnings of dangerous substances such as aluminium and others promoting quack medicines which never worked.
is it not strange, that the people choosen as "god's channel" would get these things wrong?
even stranger is the lack of information on truly dangerous substances.

Hi!
The big publishing corp. needs to meet deadlines with a good hook for the week. This needs to be accomplished without breaking a researcher's nail.
So many of the WTS medicene & health articles read like old SDA sanitarium practices & advice. There seems to be somewhat of that flavor lingering at times.
As for God's channel, my crazy JW aunt can weave medical quackery, conspiracy & Jehovah's purpose with scripture so well I'll start to believe it. At that point, I come to my senses and realize she may as well be on a soap box in psych ward F's dayroom. God's channel is open for questioning.
I mean no offence to readers with any of my psych ward comments. As a child, I was chased by her with an enema bottle & hose to cleanse me "spiritually". Clean colons=spiritual minds. I think she should have realized her dream: a one way trip to Bethel on a serious "plumbing" assignment. O.K. I'm now off topic & rambling.
Good question ballistic.

How did you view your congregation?
by haujobbz in.
when i was in my congregation i found it to be a very selfish self spirited congregation,i also found many witnesses to be very easily offended and hyper sensitive oh and i forgot the gossip ohh the gossip was horrendous, this hyper sensitivity really got on my nerves because it was starting to rub off on me and i started to get paranoid and easily offended and i was never like that b4.. and what pi@@ed me off was the fact how brothers on the stage said how loving our congregation was and what a good reputation it was known to have.. but now i have left and im back to my down to earth happy personality.

Agreeing with "cross section of humanity". I've known many kind, loving people in congs. to the other end of the spectrum. Add in all the other factors influencing a cong. makeup: location, culture, socio-economic, education background, demographics, etc.. Of the 10 + congs. I was part of, "a cross section" applies.
The small cong. where I now live seems unusual. I seldom attend in fact not at all in the past few years, but I get plenty of info from relatives that do attend. This remote town and surrounding area is at the "end of the road", so to speak, for a section of people that move and reside here. The area has numerous religious or otherwise: communes, compounds, isolated retreats & schools, religious work commmunities. My point is I accuse the cong. of fitting right in with this part of the community.
The congregation has been repeatedly threatened with disbanding due to power stuggles among the leaders. The isolation lends itself to forming your own cong. rules & groups. The cultish behavior of certain elders is too much even for Watchtower, ha, ha, ha. An elder and his supporters, for years now, has actively recruited other JW's, promising them the world, if they will work solely for him, live in his designated housing, and as it works out socialize within his circle. Once here, there is literally no easy way out when the bubble bursts. The expensive vehicle they are convinced to purchase is set up by guess who? So many have moved in & out with hard feelings. Branch says no more recruiting!
I guess I'm just sensitive to things cultish since I'm currently living in a compound arrangement(not the one described above). JWD helps keep me sane. Thanks for the space to reply, with a small rant, to this question.

The More xJW Discussion Boards The Better!

Agreed. I seldom post and I try to keep away from the fighting. At this point, I must know latest news & scandals so plan on always checking in.
I wanted to say though the board debates & arguments have had an indirect effect. My poor husband, sure as hell, can't win a debate or argument, when he tries the usual tricks to control or confuse me, since my coming to JWD. I'm starting to feel sorry for him.

Ozzie's Weekend Poll #17
by ozziepost inhow's the weekend goin'?
been too busy to think on really serious things?
that's good, because this poll doesn't require too much thinking!!

# 1, ditto ignored one's post.
#13, I'm at the point I just recently started disliking the word Jehovah. It jumps out in a sentence as a handpicked code word for Watchtower, when used by WTS or anything about JW's. It is brilliant as special language to meld a belief in an almighty god and his word together with a publishing organization with the expected results. Of course, if it's used secularly, I realize it refers to the God of the Bible's name.
Edited to add: I laugh now at Cedar Point, Ohio or anything with the secondary Watchtower fulfillment. At my most zealous(oh there's another one)studying the more outlandish fulfillments such as Cedar Point, OH, I thought, but not admitting to sarcasm "Well, somebody was really inspired writing that day".

worst JW introductions
by sleepy inwhat were the worst introductions you remmeber people using on the ministry?
"hello my friend and i....." .
"hello we've been talking to your neighbours, do you think we can ever see a peaceful world?
-
Wren
"We're here with our two nickel Bible aids" was a favorite with JWs that hated long presentations.

Here's my story. A close relative living in the Anchorage, AK area, at the time, 1960's, remembers a cong. either disbanded for awhile or 50% plus DF'd. This cong. was near Anchorage. This was, again, over signing a congregation petition to have someone disciplined. If I remember right, it was a case of slander & cliques taken to the extreme.(And you thought your Hall was gossipy)
There isn't any tears, dramatics, backing up, or sweet talking, your way out of signing a petitian. WTS rule is not a democracy.
The rest of the tale seemed overblown. There was little in the way of committee meetings if at all. A talk given, informing all from the platform, that all those signing the list can consider themselves, at this moment, DF'd. Bye Bye.
