JW Works?

i have a jw friend who is constantly telling me he is in the truth.

he always tells me that people will know gods true "organization" by their works.

he tells me about all the door to door stuff.

I was raised a Witness and remained such until about six months ago. I'm 29 years old. I pioneered and remained very active throughout. Since having left, I've become involved in volunteer work - at a local animal shelter since September and about five weeks ago at a local church who feeds the homeless DAILY. I have never in all my years of JW work felt the satisfaction that I receive after each Saturday spent in that "soup kitchen." To have a homeless person come up to you and remember your name and be so happy and grateful for your help is absolutely PRICELESS. I'm just so sorry that I have been missing the point of helping people through the years.

Founded on a Mental Illness

the zeal and general character of witnesses is firmly.

grounded in its encouragement of a kind of mental illness.. specifically, being obsessive-compulsive.

once i started seeing this, things really fell into place.. it helped to explain so much behaviour that baffled me.

Good post. Many Witnesses suffer from mental disorders. I for one suffer with Muptiple Personality Disorder, Bulimia, and cutting. Just after I left, two friends called who were still in the organization but were unaware of my being disfellowshipped. One needed to be rushed to a mental hospital because she had mutilated herself so badly and the other was a terrible mess mentally too. Now that I'm free from such an abusive organization, I know that with diligent work, I will be free from my mental illnesses within the next few years.

Great re-write of the article. I must admit that the Witnesses do not believe in helping those in need through visiting the sick, caring for the elderly, assisting the community, etc. They barely even do that to their own. I've recently become involved with "Babylon the Great!" My new church, an Episcopal one, feeds the homeless daily. How refreshing!

Why Do JW Leave and Want Nothing to Do With God

i find reading this information from different individuals that being a jw and then leaving has people not wanting anything to do with god.

did god tell us to become members of a cult?

i think it is a form of programming that is given over and over that we would be like a dog returning to its vomit.

Thanks for your words. I too am dealing with the fear of worshiping God through other avenues. I've just started attending an Episcopal Church and get this - the Pastor is a woman. I love it! Glad to hear that with time the fear subsides.

Absolutely great! Do the Witnesses actually think that an earth full of themselves will live without sin for eternity. One man and woman (Adam and Eve) alone couldn't do that! Growing up, I often wondered if executions would happen in the new world and if the elders would take delight in the assignment. Your story took me back to all those former curiosities. Thank you God that I am free!

My article was published

much to my surprize, i received an e-mail from a webzine this morning, telling me that one of my articles was published.

they must be very hard up for material.. it is on the subject of "the women of the bible".

it outlines some of the gender discrimination of the bible, and highlights a few inconsistancies in some of the bible stories that mention women.. if anyone is interested, it can be found at: http://www.liberator.net/.

The whole idea of the treatment of women has angered me throughout my life. Being raised a JW and under an abusive father only made things worse. In order for me to deal with what I see in the Bible and the treatment of women in various cultures, I have to make myself believe that God never intended for women to be less equal to men. Your article mentions the curse of women being dominated by men. This curse has proven very true. But, there was also a curse for men - to work the fields - in other words to have to work for a living. Looking at these two curses put in their respective places - one upon the man - the other upon the woman, we see that God intended for both sexes to suffer. Looking at todays society though, men are unable to carry their curse by themselves, and thus need women's help to make a living. Therefore, I truly believe that God is quite fine with my female pastor and all other women who have carried their curse throughout history and helped men with theirs. I truly enjoyed your article and hope to see more.

LIVING 4EVER ON EARTH

being inactive for over a year now, many things .

have come to "light" about the religion i was raised.

I've been out for six months now and still struggle with some of the teachings. The idea of going to heaven is becoming more appealing, but I keep reading Psm 37:29. You mentioned the scripture in Matt as well. Are these the only two scriptures that refer to an earthly hope? If so, then I feel better about a heavenly prospect. It's still all so confusing, but I surely believe that God is not working solely with the WTS.

Education Issues.......Help!

i was out last night with a jw but who is not attending.

he is in his early 30s, is on his second marriage but now separated.

i've known him for 15 yrs or so.

I became inactive 2 1/2 years ago, afterwhich I started taking classes at a local university - they were free since I was employed there. I took one class and couldn't stop. Now I'm working at another university and am about to transfer the credits in order to complete my bachelors. My higher education taught me how to have an open mind, and therefore helped me to break free. It's a wonderful accomplishment - to read and learn and look at things from various viewpoints. Good luck!
