I remember hearing my mother read things like this post of her generation. She would always remark, "those were the good ole days." I never thought I would be doing the same and I must say, this is the first time I've read a "good ole days" list from my own generation. I guess that means were getting old.

Do wives just tag along?
by sleepy indo wives just tag along?.
i'm sure this applies to husbands and children too, but i feel mostly women.. in the congregation there were often brothers viewed as strong , in postions of responsability such as min's and elders.usually in my experience the wives were no where near as "spiritual".. in fact it often seamed as though there "service" was based on their husbands.. i've seen this in men to but not as much.. now the proof of this is in whether a large number of spouces leave the truth without much persuading needed by their more forthright wives or husbands.. heres an example.. mine.. my wife has never read an apostate book and doesn't look on the internet, but as soon as i stoped going to the hall so did she.. another contrary experience is of a prominant elder in france who was well known and gave talks on the district assemblies.as soon as his wife died he left the truth as he was only going to please her.. whats your experience been.. (please don't get mad at me ladies i'm only talking about what i've seen)

Personally, I never noticed the womens spirituality based upon their husbands. What I have noticed though is that the spirituality of men in the BORG is based on the position they hold. How many times growing up did I see an elder deleted and never saw him return to the KH. I may be wrong in saying this, but my observation has been that men remain because of the power they have or may some day be awarded. On the other hand, you will see women with unbelieving mates tagging all the kids along to the meetings, going out in field service, etc. Just my observation though.

***NIGHTMARES***
by zev inwhen i was a dub growing up, i remember the nightmares..... repeated, and frequent.... the terrible feeling of dreaming that "armageddon" had come, and that destruction was happening all around me.. when i woke up, i would lie perfectly still, and do nothing.
not even a muscle twitch, and just "listen" for a familiar sound, to tell me i was indeed still alive, and still on the planet.. and the fear those dreams put in me, i can still remember 25-30 years later.. how many of you, growing up in, or even coming in as adults had a similar experience?.

Through my entire life I've had the recurring dream of Armageddon. Just a few of those times did I actually survive through the destruction - all other times I was destroyed as well. Even after leaving the organization, I still have this dream. Crazy, isn't it?

society cutting costs?!
by greven ini was wondering if you noticed the society cutting costs.. for example : the books are now printed on cheaper paper and have a soft cover.
also subscriptions are no longer mailed by post but will be brought to you by publishers (cutting cost and upping field service!
to flies in one!).

I've heard that the society is not mailing mags anymore, but I must admit, I still receive them in the mail. So does anyone have the 411 on this topic?

Looking for New game Ideas...have new Smurfs!
by Valis ini recently ran accross some new smurfs, i have papa, smurfette, and an unnamed smurf.
they are about 12 inches tall, stuffed toy smurfs...probably are full of those little foam pellets that get everywhere and pollute the environment, but they're cute so what the hell...*l* i need game ideas that aren't too time intensive, but not too easy for most apostates...as well, i know where all the good smurf stuff is, so if you're looking for smurfanalia let me know.. sincerely, .

I may just be stupid, but would someone explain the Smurf thing to me and its relation to JW's. I remember as a kid hearing a story that smurfs had come to life and run out of a Kingdom Hall meeting once. I was about five when this story circulated. Is the smurf subject that I see often on this board related to that story? Just curious. And can someone explain what BORG means too? Sorry, I'm new to the board.

Childhood experiences as a JW
by mikepence inwhat was it like growing up as a child, being a jw?
did you fear armageddon with every thunder storm?
agonize over the imminent death of all of your worldly playmates?

My most agonizing experience being raised a JW was in relation to sexual abuse. This was in the 70's. My mother had told me the importance of never allowing a man to touch me that way. It was impressed upon my young mind that if I allowed it to happen, Jehovah would destroy me. Mother said it was better to allow someone to "point a gun to my head and shoot" than to allow a sexual act to happen. I was seven when I was abused sexually by my uncle, also a witness. I remember the next morning trying to find a gun so that I could shoot myself - as I knew that is what Jehovah wanted. Not to mention all the beatings my brother and I suffered too.
