I think you have it all wrong. Witnesses focus comletely on doom and gloom, because, as you know, Armageddon is right around the corner. As a result they focus on negative things in life and feed off feeling bad, because to them it means that they are "suffering" for God. Folks on this board have seen that life is enjoyable and that the sweet things (i.e. quality time with family, falling in love, getting married, having children, educating oneself, etc.) are what God really wants us to enjoy, especially NOW. This board serves as a method to express our freedom of finding what it means to enjoy life while at the same time venting about all the years we wasted focusing on the doom and gloom.

Leander,
Don't just toss college to the wind. I've just been accepted into an accelerated study course at a local university. I applied knowing that I could not afford it either. But, after I was accepted, I went to the Financial Aid Office and they found a grant that will pay 100% of my degree. I'm stuck at a desk too now, but after I get my degree, I look forward to focusing on a job that helps other people. Some social service thing. If I were you, I wouldn't toss school out the window. There are alot of grants out there, especially for ages 30 and up.

What do JW's Do on the 4th?
by Double Edge inpardon my ignorance, having never been a jw, but what do jw's do on the fourth since they don't believe in flag and country?

My family always watched the fireworks too. But I never heard of witnesses giving their children gifts the day before or after Xmas and bdays. The funny thing is, someone just a few days ago said they knew of witnesses that did this. I was raised one and never heard of this. Well I'll be damned, I ain't never got a gift right before or after my bday.

What Head Covering Should I Wear?
by writerpen ini've been out of the borg since august 2001 and have been attending an episcopal church since january.
this sunday, i'm scheduled to pray and read the bible before the congregation for the first time.
even though my priest jokingly said in reference to a head covering, "you better not wear one," especially being that she never wears one.

LOL, No sure if this is true or not!
by qwerty inpfizer corp is making the announcement today that viagra will soon be available in liquid form and will be marketed by pepsi cola as a power beverage suitable for use as a mixer.
pepsi's proposed ad campaign claims: it will now be possible for a man to literally pour himself a stiff one.
obviously we can no longer call this a soft drink.. this additive gives new meaning to the names of cocktails, highballs and just a good old fashioned stiff drink.

It's important to let go too. This means that the next time you are offered cake, don't accept (not out meanness, but a realization that spending even a small amount of time with her may lead you to think that there is still hope). It's painful to realize that it's over, but sometimes people keep trying to hang on, thus increasing the time it takes to heal.

Good Answer to question of "Disassociate?&...
by Lollylou ina friend of mine was telling me about what happened when the elders came to talk to a witness who had decided to start going to southeast christian church.
it was one of the best responses i have ever heard and wanted to share it with you.. when they asked her if she would write a letter disassociating herself from the watchtower organization.
her response was "why would i want to do that?

I wonder what the elders do in situations like this. If they know you are going to another church, but never have the opportunity to speak with you, or like this example you just mentioned. I'm assuming she was disfellowshipped or something?
