  The smoking makes sense to me. It is based on a sound Bible principle....You will if you're stubborn at take up as a practice.

  Yeah, but why? What scriptural proof do they have that smoking is wrong? Where is it even mentioned in the bible?

  The Sexual practices I don't know much about, but I would guess that if the elders found out what happens inside a bedroom, it is because one of the spouses spoke to them.

  Nice try, but if the couple were discussing their sex life with friends and someone was 'stumbled', they would undoubtedly report it to the elders. In fact, of the 4 cases of this I'm personally aware of 3 of them were reported from someone nosing in.

  Then the elders would have to give counsel based on Biblical principles regarding loving your spouse and not hurting them, that is physically, emotionally, and sexually.

  And, if the couple does not immediately agree to stop doing this and stop talking about it, they are DFed. For something not biblically supported.

  Regarding the not believing the GB is the channel of God.

  See, here, you're missing the point of my above post altogether. WHERE IS THIS SCRIPTURALLY SUPPORTED? The answer is: IT'S NOT. The GB decided they were god's mouthpiece and questioning them was wrong, put it in their literature, and they started DFing for it.

  AGAIN--IF THEY ARE NOT INSPIRED BY GOD WORD FOR WORD, WHAT GIVES THEM THE RIGHT TO DO THIS?

  They say Jehovah is guiding them but not providing material word for word.

  If that is true, then why do they disfellowship based on teachings in their publications NOT found in the bible? Short list of teachings in their publications they have DFed for at one time that are not biblicly supported (note: that ARE supported by their publications):

  1) Smoking
  2) 'Deviant Sexual Practices' WITHIN the marriage
  3) Not believing the Governing Body is the channel of god. (C'mon, NO WHERE in the bible does it say that a group of old men in Bethel are god's one, unique, channel to humans.)
  4) Blood transfusions (sorry, they can argue all they want about 'eating blood' - in the bible, there are examples of loyal troups eating unbled meat without punishment - but, even in that case, no mention is made of transfusions. Any doctor can easily explain the difference between the two)
  5) Questioning jesus return in 1914

  Not trying to distract from the main point here, which was: If their publications are NOT directly inspired by god, what gives them the right to 'cut off' someone from the congregation based SOLELY on the teachings in their publications?

  Another reinstatement meeting coming up...

  i turned in a request (by letter) for reinstatement last week and ive been informed that i will meeting with my original judicial committee this coming wednesday.

  im very excited and happy, but at the same time i want to be careful how i conduct myself.

  in the last meeting in early march, my reinstatement request was turned down.

  This was regarding the watchtower flip-flopping on organ transplants (I even kept it simple hoping you'd answer and not duck out).

  Note that I asked a question on 4/8 6:01EST, you dodged the question on 4/8 6:15EST - I rebutted at 4/8 7:18EST, and then the thread continued being bumped until 4/9.

  If they refuse reinstatement, I will know that Jehovah has guided me out. I will not go back.

  Make sure you mention you are researching and independently verifying their teachings on the web.

  I guarantee they won't let you back.

  See, I've read your other posts, and tried to have a discussion with you before, only to have you duck out (repeatedly) when you couldn't answer. I know one of two things will happen as a result:

  1) You won't mention that you visit apostate sites, and they will re-instate you. You will then come to the board and say "I told them I researched apostate sites and they are open minded enough to allow me to return".

  2) You WILL mention that you visit apostate sites, and they will NOT re-instate you. You will then come to the board and say "I told them I researched apostate sites and they are open minded enough to allow me to return".

She said she had to pray a whole day to Jehovah. Finally, after 24 hours of struggle, the demons left her. How happy this sister is now as she serves as a pioneer, sharing the truth that sets people free!

  Incidently, I had heard a similar "urban legend" - the point of this one was that nothing except god can save you from demons. Apparently, some catholic priest had visited a women who was being attacked by demons. He cited scripture after scripture, and the demon kept attacking the women. Finally, the demon turned on the priest. Well, the priest held up the bible in front of him, and the demon threw it at him so hard, it tore through his chest.

  The CO (yes, it was a CO telling this tale out in service) pointed out that we should not think anything we can do will defeat a demon, we should just call on the name 'jehovah', and the attack would stop. He was also quick to plug that since this priest didn't believe that was god's name, that's why he died...

  in fact i've heard lots of dodgey stories about them including them being a money grabbing, brain washing cult.. just wondered how wide spread they are though.

  LOL @ ballistic. Never heard of a group of crackpots so deranged. They even put the WTBTS to shame.

  The basic premise of their religion....well, here,let me quote:

  On the "advanced" levels (called OT levels) above the state of "Clear" they encounter the story of Xenu. Xenu was supposed to have gathered up all the overpopulation in this sector of the galaxy, brought them to Earth and then exterminated them using hydrogen bombs. The souls of these murdered people are then supposed to infest the body of everyone. They are called "body thetans". On the advanced levels of Scientology a person "audits out" these body thetans telepathically by getting them to re-experience their being exterminated by hydrogen bombs. So people on these levels assume all their bad thoughts and faulty memories are due to these body thetans infesting every part of their body and influencing them mentally.

  Note that the 'audit out' process involves a personal scientology counsellor and BUCKETS OF MONEY.

  i am thinking of getting a new computer.

  i have an hp pc right now and thinking of switching to mac.

  i saw the i-mac and fell in love with it --- its bucks but it does a ton of stuff.

  Don't judge PCs on the Win98 OS - it was rather unstable (it was rather obviously still built on an over-extended version of DOS)

  Give the XP OS a try and see if you don't find PCs more stable. There is nothing, after all, inherently WRONG with the PC architectures - the 98 OS was just really easy to screw up.

  As rhett said, you can easily get a PC with a DVD-burner in it.

  As to 'compact' - that's what I was talking about w/ aesthetics. You can get a compact PC - there are, in fact, PCs you can buy that are no larger than a shoebox (and not as deep). Look at the Shuttle sv25 ( http://www.spacewalker.com/english/mcs_detail_info.asp?number=165). Pair that up w/ a flat screen monitor and you will have a VERY compact PC.

  awake 4-22-02 "spider masquerades as ant&q...

  there is a rather fascinating article at the end of the april 22nd awake concerning a certain spider that is able to imitate an ant so convincingly that it can live among ants and escape detection.

  (puzzlingly the article fails to either name the spider or indicate its native habitat.

  looking up some info myself, i see that there a several species of ant-mimicing spider, especially of the genus myrmarachne.

  And, here is an even better question...what will happen to all the predators in the new system? I can't imagine lions eating grass or snakes eating dirt....just flies in the face of reason.

  I mean, LOOK AT THOSE TEETH. They are good for exactly ONE thing - killing.

  And, where did all the predators come from anyway? I mean, if god didn't originally intend for them to be killing each other - why did he give them sharp, pointy, teeth and no molars?
