You do realize, EVERY scene was CGI mixed with live action? They actually were acting on blue screens - very few (if any) sets, according to the cast interviewed. Seeing as how, by implication, you are suggesting there were some scenes it WASN'T mixed in, I'd say they did a pretty good job.

Well, episode 5 was good. 'A New Hope' was pretty weak, though. I like the larger story arc that is being flushed out. The rebellion vs Empire thing is vaguely interesting, but the rise, fall, and redemption of Anakin Skywalker makes a much better story, IMHO.

Saw that thread, too - but reb has some spoilers that kinda ruin the movie. Won't mention them here, obviously because of the 'no spoilers' tag on the thread.
*I* liked it. Almost as good as 'Empire Strikes Back'. Certainly better than 'A New Hope', anyway.
Like I said, a LOT of 'fan moments'. Little details, like noticing the symbol of the Galactic Republic is the same symbol used by the Galactic Empire. The origin of so much of the universe we see in the later movies.
I've mentioned it to my coworkers (one of which has never seen a Star Wars movie yet!): the kids today who see the whole series from Ep1-6 in order will be getting a MUCH bigger and MUCH better story than those of us who saw the last 3 first.
Granted, the last 3 is a decent self-contained story, but nothing epic. Watching all 6, you'll get an actually compelling tale of the rise, fall into temptation, and final redemption of a great character.
Watching the movie not as a stand-alone event, but as merely part of a much larger saga changes it, I think.

This is exactly everything episode I should have been. Watching the movie, everything in the rest of the series just 'clicks'. The origins of pretty much everything you see in the original trilogy can be seen, the explanation of SO MUCH is given.
As a movie on its own? Hmmmm....dunno. Acting isn't bad, but certainly won't win any oscars. The music and special effects are certainly breathtaking, though. Some of the dialog seems awkward, but the overall story is VERY good.
(Oh, and Miss Portman is DEFINATELY the hotty )
Sam Jackson is awesome - he just has a presence that works well in the movie.
Yoda kicks ass. DJs on the morning radio commented he steals the movie with his scene - you'll know which one. (Oh, and Jango Fett kicks ass, too)
LOT of fan-pleaser moments. Jar-Jar IS back in the movie, but only has about 5 lines, and none of them are really bad. I think playing him up to be such a dope in the first one actually works now. One, well, what could be described as a pivotal decision to the whole series, ends up having to be made by him. And, because of episode I, you KNOW he'll make *exactly* the wrong decision - there isn't even any doubt.
So, who does the 'comic relief'? Well, it's back to the interaction of C-3P0 and R2-D2, which is quite where it belongs, thank you.
Anyone else see it? Thoughts?

in my post below, i related how i talked with the national defense information system, dept.
of the army regarding the hacker who attacked my pc 12 times in two hours.
well, it turned out the routing went through the ndif ... and after speaking with an army officer in washington, dc, they requested all information be immediately sent to them.. i got a call back, and evidently it was a little more serious and of interest to the authorities ... so, the matter has been referred by them to the department of defense (dod) ... i was contacted today and told that they will be back with me shortly, and to expect to provide additional information.. utterly fascinating.
XP's firewall IS enabled by default, and by default blocks pretty much all ports from acting as a server.
(And, in any case, it's REAL easy to enable. Go to the 'network connections' interface - which you have to go to in order to add a dialup connection. Right-click on the connection in question, and go to the last tab - select the checkbox for 'I want to protect my computer with a firewall', or something to that effect. All done)
It's actually not a bad firewall, but MS goes and borks it by putting in UPnP as a feature of the OS, which actually broadcasts requests itself for 'devices' on the network to connect to. It's a little more complicated turning this rather giant security flaw off (not if you are familiar with the NT core - it's just a service you have to stop, but it has some implications)

i have never known exactly how "elders" are chosen and what the process is when a recommendation goes to brooklyn.
all i've ever heard is "the gb prays over the issue.
Oh, silly, it's very simple to the faithful.
They are 'clergy' when it comes time to dodge the draft.
Elders are 'untrained volunteers' when they make mistakes.
But, elders are 'clergy' when it comes time to visit someone in a hosptial.
However, elders are 'untrained volunteers' again when the religious leaders are required to report molestation.
And, they are back to 'clergy' when it comes to privilege in testifying at a trial.
'Untrained volunteers' at tax time, though...
Once again 'clergy' when someone in the hall needs a professional to help their spiritual growth

ive recently been in contact with a couple of ex-jws that i knew in my childhood.. what has surfaced is the amount of fear that we experienced as young children when we were involved with the witnesses.
i accept that children often do develop irrational fears as part of growing up, but what i am talking about here is a deep-seated fear of being harmed.. many young children that i grew up with in the witness religion were of an unusually nervous disposition.
i recall how when i was first taken to meetings that i found the whole experience somewhat sinister and strange.
