  i'm throwing caution to the wind with this one but i know it will be appreciated.

  i just received this a few hours ago in my email and thought some of you may be interested, it will affect us all if it goes through.

  ban on gay marriages bill now in congress .

  All of the above said...if this WAS a problem, it would be a big one.

  However, further research seems to indicate this is the work of an activist group. They DID propose a constitutional amendment - July of last year.

  However, they can propose all the amendments they want, Congress must act on these proposals for anything to happen.

  And, near as I can tell, no one in Congress is taking this group seriously currently.

  So, bullet dodged.

  KJV, I don't know if you're trying to be funny or not, but you come off as being an asshole.

  This is (potentially) a serious issue.

  And before anyone goes off thinking they don't have to act because 'it can't happen here', remember, Congress managed to add an amendment to the constitution to outlaw alcohol once. If *that's* possible....

  'Of course if any such application to the UN was made, it was faked. But, if it wasn't, then there is nothing wrong with joining the UN, since the society did it.'

  sixty minutes covered this story a month ago and meet the press brought it up again this morning when rumsfeld was interviewed.... when stationing troops in foreign countries, the u.s. military tries to abide by the rules of the country.

  in saudi arabia, the custom for women in public is that they wear an abaya, a floor-length, long-sleeve, loose-fitting garment that covers everything but the face.

  air force lt. col. martha mcsally filed a lawsuit against the pentagon, arguing that the policy was discriminatory because men are not required to dress in traditional muslim garments.. when interviewed on sixty minutes, mcsally was so offended by the garment that she would not put it on just to demonstrate what it looked like.

  I'd add further that if the requirements for staying become more and more excessive, there will obviously be a point where we have to leave.

  Where that line is....dunno....I don't think we've crossed the 'gone too far' line yet, though.

  Remember when replying, this IS NOT A CIVILIAN we are talking about. SHE IS IN THE MILITARY. They *have to* operate under a different set of guiding principles.

  The bottom line: when you enter foreign territory, you become subject to local law and local punishments for infringements of those laws.

  Whether you agree with the laws or not, whether you feel the laws treat people inconsistently or discriminatorily or not, is irrelevant. If you don't like the laws don't go to the foreign country. If a job will require you to go a country whose laws and culture you dislike, don't take that job. End of story.

  This is a good point.

  I'd add further that the military has to operate under even stricter guidelines. Remember, the military is not in the business of right vs wrong. They kill people for a living, remember? If the US wants a military presence in Saudi Arabia, and the Saudis say 'sure, but do this, this, and this while you're here', the US military has to do it. Regardless if it is perceived as right or wrong to US civilians.

  Yes, some is congecture, but you are trying to make out in your own head that it is all congecture when it is not.

  And this is the biggest point here.

  It's called the 'theory' of evolution, not because there is any question as to its validity. It's fact. Evolution happens, we can see it happen today, and we have proof it happened in the past.

  It's a 'theory' because we don't know ALL the details of what CAUSES it to happen.

  All we know for sure is that evolution DOES HAPPEN. Again, read the talkorigins.org site. That all life came from a single origin is pretty much not disputed.

  Now, if you want to believe that a divine being was responsible for the first spark of life, and guided 'evolution', well I can't stop you. There is no evidence to contradict that idea, but realize (as the j-dubs did), that the bible does not support such a theory, if taken literally.

  Clearly animals have evolved within their species over time, but have they changed from one species to the next?

  If you'd read the above sources, you'd see the answer to this. The problem is: who defines what is one 'species' vs another? We do. Thus, the differentiation is entirely artificial.

  That's the biggest flaw in creationists argument. Change observed 'within their own species over time', as if there was some black and white line surrounding the definition of each species. There is not.

  presumably plants at first, began to evolve.

  Actually, it doesn't look like plants were first. Read the above site. Really, you need to. Go to 'Browse the Archive' which has the 'Must-Read Files' section. LOTS of good stuff there.
