What kind of music do you listen to?

i'm a music junkie, i like pretty much all types of music.

but in particular i would have to say jazz is my favorite, but not the watered down kenny g style of jazz.

i prefer the straight ahead, hard bop type of jazz.. lately i've been really getting into psychedelia rock.

Actually, it's really not that bad. Who is that girl...mmmm....Ginny Owens? Pretty good, really. Kinda gotta be in a mellow mood, though. Jars of Clay and P.O.D. have some decent songs as well.

Although I obviously don't agree with the message, I can certainly respect the artists' belief in it and their talent. I actually have a lot of respect for 'contemporary Christians' who have firm conviction in their own faith, but are open minded about others and don't force their beliefs on them - as *most* of the Christian entertainers are.

the following is taken from the washington post article by victor gilinsky, former commissioner of the nrc, is interesting, yet deserves some commentary about his conclusions, and analysis:.

you wouldn't know it from the bland pronouncements of the nuclear regulatory commission (nrc), but the u.s. nuclear industry just had its closest brush with disaster since the 1979 three mile island accident.. this lead in sentence right away is sensationalistic by using the word disaster, and by making comparisons to tmi, thus conjuring up images of some fearful event that would bring ominous results.

Amazing - interesting read.

It held my interest because, from my house, I can see the cooling towers of our local nuke plant (Perry, OH). I can even see the plume of steam when walking out of the office.

It seems to calm a lot of people down A LOT to learn the details of the safety precautions in place, in addition to how the plant actually works. (Our local congregation had a group of sisters that were CONVINCED that an actual catastrophic nuclear chain reaction was always just minutes away from occurring - I guess one of their husbands was a welder who worked at the plant for a bit, and was certain the work was so substandard that a nuclear explosion was inevitable[8>])

Will any dubs be stumbled about WTS T.V. flicks

when the watchtower "infomercials" make it to the airwaves in canada, will the common drones be stumbled?.

for me, the inevitable comparison will prevail, that is the comparison between the infomercials put out by the church of latter day saints (the mormons) and the ones that the witchtower will use dubb dollars to pay to air.. when i was at the bookstudy last week, the bookstudy overmiester handed out the kms.

right after the opening prayer, one wannabe dub unbaptised man spoke up about what he found under the announcements about the tv infomercials.

with all the recent hog wash going on in my life, i can't believe i am even entertaining this notion.

everybody on this board knows how i feel about this path, these beliefs, and here i am thinking, pondering wondering, maybe jehovahs witnesses do have something to offer me, maybe i need their 'close nit' love inside their congregations?

maybe i could see the truth, if i only opened my eyes to it and tried to accept it???

Do something else. There are lots of support groups out there if you need support (you apparently do).

Whether it be classes, a nice UU church, or actual counseling - ANYTHING is better than the JWs.

Hell, I could name a few cults that were better than the JWs. At least most of them don't require you to die over doctrine that might be changed.

That's a riot. I think I like his D&D->Witchcraft->Suicide one better - manages to make more unfounded leaps of logic than this one.

Of course, have you read his tracts on Catholicism? The guy is just insane - he seems to have a bone to pick with EVERYONE.

I bet he cheared when Falwell et al. blamed the Sept 11 attacks on 'the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians'

At least, he certainly has tracts out condemning us all to hell....[8>]

But I haven't played that in a *long* time... (And it takes so *LONG* to play... even with a few ships!!)

Yeah, it does kick ass. Not many people play it in our area. You should see my mini collection . They are the 'elite' line, so they fit in the regular hexes.

Hey, if you've got a decent PC, pick up 'Star Fleet Command II' or 'Star Fleet Command: Orion Pirates' from Interplay - both are based on SFB, and the translation to PC game is pretty true. Because the maps are always 'open', the plasma torps and drones had to be sped up some (oh, and they call drones 'missiles'), but overall, they are both very good games.

I dislike Monopoly. Clue? You've got to be kidding. I played that game with my cousins, when I was about 7 or 8. It's a kid's game, isn't it?

Pffft...kids game. HAH! And Monopoly? I dunno - you sure you feelin alright?

I like Pinochle and Cribbage too.

GAH! Old people games!! My grandma plays Pinochle!!!

What do the Catholics & JWs have in common?

while discussing the current state of affairs re: pedophilia in the catholic church with a friend, i started talking about the same situation within the jws.

she asked me, what do the two have in common that makes it possible for molestations to be covered up and denied?

in short, what do they have in common that has allowed them to get away with it for so long?.

Basically your #1 and #2 above are major contributing factors.

Even #3 is relevant. Up until recently, kids were taught from a very early age and throughout their childhood that adults were infallible period, which made reporting ANY such case difficult.

Some parents still seem to teach this, and some religions support this. I think this is perhaps the stupidest thing you can teach a kid these days. No one is worthy of trust or respect until they prove it. No one ever has been, but the more tightly packed we become on this planet, the more of an issue this will become.

The 21st century is a great place to be, but it's no place for the naive.
