This quote was in my notes from the last DC: "Preparing for the future by saving a lot of money is demonic propaganda.". Those 401Ks are so satanic they should be called 666Ks.

Planning your RETIREMENT. Can anyone remember Watch Tower encouraging, in anyway, it's members to plan ahead for this eventual reality?
by LoisLane looking for Superman ini cannot think of one article written for jehovah's witnesses that deals with this important issue.. your retirement.. .
the governing body makes sure everyone looks after the gb's needs.
the gb will be moving to their new lakeside estate in 3 years.. what about everyone else below the 8 gb and their wives???.

Welcome! There's a lot to be learned through this site- it's refreshing to be able to use your brain to evaluate the merits of different points of view and analyze what makes the most sense to you. Very different from the "believe everything we say the instant we say it" approach of the FDS. If you haven't already, you might want to check out a site called Beroean Pickets. There are a couple of active elders who post there who seem to have grappled with similar issues. Like another poster mentioned though, once you go down the rabbit hole, you can't "unknow" what you find out.

Would a trip to Israel reveal TTAT to JWs?
by UBM101 invisiting the sites mentioned in the bible etc, would it open the eyes of some?
what do you think?.

I know some JWs who went to Israel and it only "strengthened their faith.". I'm curious how you think it would help them see TTATT?

Family is drawing the line in the sand
by dissonance_resolved inso my family has obviously been noticing over the past several months that i've been missing meetings and fs.
i've had excuses sometimes, but not others, so my parents are definitely getting that this is more than a long bout of illnesses or fatigue.
i just received an email invitation to join them in service this weekend.

Four months later and I find myself in the same place. I managed to skirt the issue last time and have enjoyed a summer with continued contact with my family, the elephant in the room being silently ignored. But today I got another email from my mom with the emotional blackmail totally ramped up.
I'm exhausted- I don't know how much longer I can keep up the pretense of I'm too sick/tired/busy to go to meetings or out in service. But I can't tell them how I really feel either without risking being shunned.
My kids are confused, wondering why mommy is crying all the time. My parents are sad, my hubby is angry and feeling betrayed. Friends I've had my entire life have disappeared into thin air. Trying to get off the WTBTS treadmill is like jumping from a moving train and getting your shoelace caught in the door, being dragged along on your face but you just can't reach to cut the ties.

BUM WITNESSES
by The Searcher incan anyone save me the stress of listening to the self-appointed faithful & discreet slave for 3 hours, and give a clue as to roughly at what point in the proceedings was the derogatory term 'bum witnesses used, and by whom?
i'd really love to extract that comment and send it to a weakening witness, to highlight the judgmental arrogance and name-calling being displayed.. many thanks in advance folks!.

It was Bro. Loesch during the WT summary. I don't recall him using those exact words, but that was definitely his point.

My highlights from the AGM
by Apognophos insome of this will not be new to those of you who read other people's notes, but i bet there are a few new bits for you here, so i've provided a user-friendly table of contents, as an homage to the contents that appear before each book of the bible in the new nwt.
i might remember more highlights later, as i'm rather tired right now, but this is what i can recall off the top of my head.. contents (use of quote marks in this section is facetious; these are not actual quotes).
"say, did you notice that 2014 is the 100th anniversary, people?".

The parts that stood out for me:
Br. Splane quote: "Jehovah has the most thinking people on earth."
The applause at the Stanley Theater always went on WAY longer than the applause in the Kingdom Hall.

Thanks for the welcome! Once I woke up and realized what I was facing, I knew I would need the support of others who had been through the same experience. I've definitely found that support here- it's great to have a judgment-free zone to vent and ask questions.

An Elder Reads CoC !!
by TTATTelder ini have recently joined the site.
i was just appointed an elder this summer.
i started discovering the ttatt (the truth about the truth) last year after putting a few things together myself concerning the leadership and then doing some research online.. i really enjoyed jwfacts.com, jwsurvey, and others.

Welcome TTATTelder! I too am a multi- generational born-in, fading now for 6 months. I agree that it is an emotionally wild ride- it's a huge relief personally, but also quite painful to see all your family and friends stuck in the org with no comprehension of how/why you would ever want to leave. Make sure you find some friends, even here on this board, that you can talk to openly about all of this, with no fear of getting DF'd. It helps immensely.

What will it take for me to stop this?
by sibboleth ini have lurked for over a year.
i keep coming back here - everytime i do - it's like witnessing a car wreck.
the things i don't want to read or believe are right here before my eyes - it's like a drug.

dissonance_resolved
This is a great thread- what's encouraging to me is that it seems many of these posters are no longer actively posting, which I hope means they have been able to move on with their lives. I hope Sibboleth and everyone else are out there living happy, fulfilling lives and have put the WT experience firmly behind them.
