That's what's missing from our family
by dissonance_resolved intonight as i was putting my son to bed, we were looking out his bedroom window from his bed, down upon the neighbors' house across the street.
they have a beautiful, big sparkly christmas tree in their front window and my son gazed at it and said, "that's what's missing from our family.
" talk about daggers through the heart!.

Inactive ones are bloodguilty?
by dissonance_resolved ini've been thinking about brother morris' statement at the zone meeting this past weekend that inactive ones are bloodguilty.
bloodguilt is defined as "guilty of murder or manslaughter.
" murder is #1 on the list of disfellowshipping offenses- all they would have to do is change the wording from "murder" to "bloodguilt" and suddenly there you have grounds to disfellowship anyone who's inactive.

Brooklyn Bethel in the 1940 census
by dissonance_resolved inprompted by another post, i looked up 124 columbia heights in the 1940 census.
a few interesting things: all occupants are listed as having the profession of "sell- religious books," except rutherford who is listed as an "editor.
" odd that they aren't listed as ministers.. also, all the educational levels of the occupants were provided- many had not even graduated high school and some not even grammar school.

Out of the mouths of babes
by dissonance_resolved insince i started my fade, i've been really worried about my kids being taken to meetings by my husband and continuing to be indoctrinated.
i guess i needn't have worried, though, the wt is digging their own grave for me.
below is verbatim my young daughter's notes from a recent meeting (though names have been changed):.

Some updates made to digital publications may not yet appear in the printed editions
by dissonance_resolved inthis is the new disclaimer at the bottom of the downloads page of jw.org.
pretty soon the old versions will all just go down the memory hole and they will think they are in control of the past..

Find a way
by dissonance_resolved ini found diana nyad's epic swim from cuba to florida to be really inspiring at this point in my journey from jw land to freedom.
her mantra was "you don't like this.
find a way.".

Foreign language groups
by dissonance_resolved inforeign language groups are the fastest growing groups of jws in the western world.
the best and brightest jws are drawn to them for the privileges, the challenge, the feeling of being special.
but in my experience, being in one of these groups has a side effect.

A day in the life of a fading JW
by dissonance_resolved ini'm five months into my slow fade and it's going so-so.
my saturday morning was spent on a 3-mile jog and taking the kids to the park, which was great, but i'm still shuddering from the potential alternative.
at the last meeting, an elderette literally blocked the exit to prevent my escape and said she just "noticed" that we were in the same field service group and would i like to work with her in service on saturday?
