Hypocrisy Within My Own Family

yesterday my brother (ever-loyal witness baptized same day as me 10 years ago; who is married to a holier-than-thou regular pioneer and subsequently with her encouragement has since avoided me as much as possible since i da myself) and his wife (see description above) came over to visit.. well.. shooting the proverbial shit, we got to the topic of movies.

asking politely if he or his wife had seen lord of the rings.. she interjected that it was inappropriate because it suggested wizardry and spiritism, and would never see such filth.

trying very hard to remain polite, my mom noticed the pause and said if they wanted to borrow any movies we have on tape to watch at home.. sneaky as i am, while they flapped their gums with my parents i glanced in the bag to see what they borrowed.. they took:.

My JW niece was just here...so I can understand your frustration...I had to listen to her explain to me why I am not happy...uuumm Ok But like you I put up with stuff..cause well hey at least she doesn't shun me, right?

My older sister walked out on Croc. Dundee (I had rented the movie to watch at my parents house) because of the one part of the movie where the woman is wearing a thong swimsuit..then I find out later she is watching "married with children" lol...yes they are hyprocrites!!!!

i've posted several times about how i'm fed up with the witnesses but my wife won't budge.

she's become a bit more tolerant lately, but mostly we get along better when we don't talk about anything substantive.

i've been working up the nerve to tell the elders why i don't go out anymore.

Hey voltaire,

Sorry to hear about your situation. My take on this is that if you have marital problems..address them without the complication of another woman..don't use your problems to excuse doing something that you want to do.

Deal with your wife first..decided if you want to stay together or not. And THEN if you seperate or divorce start a new relationship. You owe it to your wife to try and look at your relationship objectively without the complication of another woman in the mix.

As a side note...my husband was infatuated with another woman at one time and considered leaving me for her (stupid man huh?)...in the process of us working things out and evolving an open marriage policy he got to know her a lot better and ultimately was very very glad he didn't leave me for her (duh!!!!). Turned out she was a very jealous, high maintenance emotionally type woman...things are not always what they appear to be at first glance..just keep that in mind, ok?

maybe this is a local phenomenon, but does it aver occur to you that jws whose mate dies often remarry in what society in general regards as an ``unseemly'' short time after the death of their spouses?

i guess the most prominent example of this is audrey knorr, who tied the knot a second time not long after ``pappy'' knorr was interred in 1977.. just wondering.

I've long felt that JWs' beliefs keep them from grieving in a normal healthy manner.

So true Scully...it's like if you grieve to much well then you must not have much faith in the resurrection. I think it makes them very callous to the grief and suffering of others!

Question for ex elders

i'm wondering if any of you ex elders ever felt embarrassed or awkward about having to stick your noses into other peoples business did it ever seem like that to you, or were you of the mind that you were a necessary part of the lives of the flock?

Well I know I used to feel sorry for the elders sometimes cause I knew some people that went to them for every single nitpicky problem that they had! Instead of going to the person they had a problem with and straightening it out themselves (isn't that what the Bible councils to do anyway??) they would run tattle to the elders.

lol DB our posts must have crossed...I see you have a great example of the nitpicky stuff I was talking about!

Well I know when my mom died there was practally a line of sisters around the door within weeks...disgusted me to say the least! Funny thing though, my poor dad didn't have a clue...
