I agree. I am born in and I think most of the ones that had some brain power have either left or have resigned any responsibility. I remember years ago I would get into good discussions on the Bible at the door, but to some of my partners they looked like arguments. Shortly after that, it seemed there some articles in the Kingdom Ministry discouraging debates at the door. Since then it seems any time the householder makes any objection the Witnesses don't argue too much and leave.

Is the Watchtower Destroying All Thinking Skills of New Witness, Compare them to when you were in the Organization!
by RottenRiley inmany jws don't know the basic doctrines we all use to debate the clergy with.. .
jws don't know the bible, the know a few proof-texts but can't handle the bible like the witnesses of 1950s-1990s, what happened?.
the caliber of the new elders is horrible when compared with the elders of 1950s-1990s, they don't know how to use their bible, they are turning towards orgnazational minor details while ignoring the bible and gospel message.. .

Agreed. I wouldn't want to live 200 years or even 100 years ago. My wife and daughter probably would have died during childbirth 2 years ago were it not for modern medicine. Things are better now.

My favourite JW books when I was a delusional.convert. Did you have any ?
by smiddy indid you have any favourite books by the society when you were in ?not that this book was my fav.
yet it was the first book i read learning about jw`s.
" from paradise lost to paradise regained " i know , it was designed for the young , however my mentor thought that since i had no understaning of the bible it was what i needed.

My favorites were the Daniel book and the Greatest Man. Later while learning TTATT I liked the Proclaimers book since it did give some admission about 1975, of course putting most of the blame on the members but still accepting some blame. I was surprised about that since I learned more about 1975 from a return visit who looked it up online than I had from the organization.

I was an elder for 3 years((2010-2013), MS for 4 years before that(2006-2010) but I was MS even before that(1999-2001) I agree that becoming an elder really showed how human the org is. I didn't see any holy spirit or Gods' hand operating at all. Just a lot of procedures, rules, and following letters from the org; not even that much following the Bible. I'm still halfway in for the wife but mentally out and hopefully I can find a way to get physically out with her. We still make about 25% of the meetings. But thats a big change from being an elder and busy in the org just since Feb.

How bad is the nepotism really with the appointments of elders?
by toto555 ini've seen brothers related or who are friends of elders who get appointed after only 6-12 months as an m.s.
while they were other brothers slaving away for years.
elders also who promote their sons and basically say to other young brothers "to heck with everyone else".

When I used to be an elder, there was one time the COBE(coordinator) wanted to appoint a 16 year old as a MS. Thankfully, the rest of us helped him see reason that he was still a kid and even the scriptures said that men, not minor children should be appointed. His reasoning was that he knew of circuit overseers in other countries like Mexico that were only 20 years old. I didn't know if that was true or not but I didn't want this young brother to have to be thrust into that responsbility yet. I think they're getting desperate for anybody to be appointed.

Foreign language groups
by dissonance_resolved inforeign language groups are the fastest growing groups of jws in the western world.
the best and brightest jws are drawn to them for the privileges, the challenge, the feeling of being special.
but in my experience, being in one of these groups has a side effect.

I agree about the feeling special part in a foreign language group/cong. I am in one and helped start it about 8 years ago. I also agree that since so much time is taken translating, reading it in the foreign language a lot of times I didn't fully notice what the Watchtower was actually saying. But, I also think the risk of burnout is greater too, since there is usually a smaller number of elders/min. servants to carry the load and that's what happened to me. After that, with more time to think I started noticing inconsitencies and the problems in the religion.

FOLLOW the MONEY!
by The Searcher ini'm sure that most (if not all) on jwn want to open up the eyes and minds of all those who are blinded, not only to bible teachings, but also to the immorality of the monetary system operated by the wtbts.. every witness and ex-witness on here will openly admit how stupid and gullible they were before learning ttatt, myself included.
so rather than condemning r/f witnesses, do the christian thing and show human compassion.. to aid (shock!
) such ones, can anyone ascertain the approximate market value of the britain branch properties in london?

I agree. Our Kingdom Hall was just remodeled and now they pass a resolution requiring us to pay back a loan to the Society. Our Kingdom Hall was fine and if the end is so close wouldn't be a waste anyway? What I thought was interesting was they decided to remodel this KH instead of building a new double one since they had so much trouble finding property and I think since there really isn't that much growth in our area. In the past few years congs. have had to combine since they were so small. I was under the impression they had saved a lot of money for the remodel and would be able to pay for it with cash but the Society probably would rather they take out a loan so they can collect interest. I thought there was a scripture about brothers not charging each other interest. I guess that only applies to us not them.

INTERNATIONAL CONVENTIONS!!! A LOVING PROVISION FROM THE GB!

Or just go on your own without the Watchtower. My wife and I went to an International Convention about 4 years ago. We did have a good time despite having to practically wear our dress clothes the whole time which I thought was stupide even though I was an elder at the time. We were there less than 2 weeks and spent 10,000 dollars. It seemed expensive and doing travel research later found out we could have went for about 1/2 the cost in full comfort without going through the Watchtower. No more International Conventions for us. We will travel on our own.

If the memorial falls on a meeting night.....
by carla ini have forgotten, can someone tell me if the (reject jesus) memorial falls on a regular meeting night do they make up the tues meeting another night next week?.
-
subytrek
Even when I was a devout believer I always had trouble with trying to shoehorn the regular meetings the same week as the memorial. It just made the memorial seem less special, like it it was just another meeting and no got any breaks. I always thought they should just cancel all the meetings for that week and only have the memorial. Then it would seem special. I mean they cancel the mid week meetings for all the assemblies but not the memorial; only if it fall on that exact night and there is no way to have it another night. It does seem they don't find Jesus to be all that important after all.

to Barrold Bonds - Yeah, I know. I'm starting to finally realize that most of what they do is for financial reasons. That is too bad for the NY Bethelites. I've been to NY once and even though it was a short visit it was a lot of fun. I can't wait to go back and spend more time there.
