these words were translated as either presence [parousia], coming [echomai] or arrival [eltho] in the new world translation.
but all we are saying is that the word ...can, can, can mean "coming", a simple "coming" of a person.
we remember jesus christ made an initial visit, or had a first coming, to inspect the temple for god, as the messenger of the covenant.
Long and BORING.

didn't we already do this once? Jan and I certainly have been all over the issue. Let's let it rest for a while. Then again, by commenting, I guess I am bringing it back to the top. Put me down as oppossed to abortion then.

4:1 - in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons.. well done all of you demons got you didn't they?
Alternative,
Ever stop to think that maybe just MAYBE, the falling away is falling away from Orthodox Christianity and into the trap of the Watchtower, who truly has demonic doctrine?
Just a possibility. If we're truly in the last days now, then it is the WATCHTOWER that has fallen away from us, not us from Orthodox Christian Doctrine.

the other day someone made a reference to "mountainous" proof of the existence of an historical jesus.. refusing to suffer fools gladly, the poster was challenged to produce this "mountain" and i haven't heard a peep of it - not that i'm surprised.
a bb friend with whom i carry on a regular private correspondence reminded me of this challenge, and i was wondering if the "mountain" or even a hillock is ever going to be forthcoming?
come on rex, where is it?.
By the same token, if we accept that someone named Jesus, the Jesus, lived then on what basis do we discount matters NOT related to faith such as He was a carpenter, he was a preacher, etc. Again, I find it interesting that rather than deny his existence, the Jews tried to discount Jesus as the son of a whore, it was the best they could come up with (see the Talmud)
Outside of trying to prove that Jesus was a real person I think trying to prove the faith from history is ridiculous. If there were provable facts, it really wouldn't be faith, would it.

hey everyone, i was hesitant to post this article i read because abortion debates can turn so ugly so fast.
so i thought about it for and decided i should post it because it is important for those of us who value the right the choose to be aware of what that really means here in the us.
this article is from the weekly alternative newspaper here in the minneapolis/st.
Jan,
You said,
I suggest you post references, Why? You haven't. R v W is a legal document not a medical document. R v W is almost 30 years old, medical science has made some pretty huge leaps since then. But, if it will amuse you, I can look up the references for ya.
Err on the side of caution means, caution that you might be destroying human life, that is the cautious, or conservative approach.
Jan, where do you get the idea that PAIN and THOUGHT are related. Pain is generally a function of the lower brain even the brain stem.
Jan, I am in no way favoring any limitations on sex, oral sex, anal sex, premarital sex, same gender sex, group sex, have all the sex you want, JUST BE RESPONSIBLE about it. One of the risks of Sex is pregnancy, so, take ALL precautions against that, or disease. To have abortion as a choice for those who make irresponsible choices about sex just encourages irresponsible sex.
What you want is to control people's sexuality. It seems to be the core issue of Christianitynow you're putting words in my mouth, I never said any such thing. Have sex if you want, but it comes with risks. Lets educate on sex, and teach abstinence as a viable option, but not the only option, condums, BCP which I am personally opposed to, but don't want to see go away.
My concern is indeed for women, abortion victimizes women. An abortion pill victimizes women. But my biggest concern is for the baby, the human life, inside the womb. It has no voice. Only the drone of folks from NOW and Planned Parenthood seem to be heard in the debate. Why does PP oppose teaching abstinence as part of sex ed? Abstinence is the most reliable form of birth control there is.
Responsible choices, Jan, involve assessing the risks and accepting the consequences. As a male, I assess the risk of getting a girl pregnant if we have sex. Is it worth it? Well, I'll wear a condom. Opps, the condom breaks. Do I encourage her to have an abortion? NOPE, the consequences of my action mean another life has come into existence. Instead, I support this girl, help her as best I can, and pay my child support. Abortion was never an option. My daughter from this circumstance will be 7 in August.
If a woman has the right to abort a baby against the will of the father, should the father have the right to make her have an abortion if he doesn't want to be a dad? If not, should he have the right to not pay child support and disown the baby?

What happened to Ray Franz's stock, or did he own any? Did my new signature come out as I had hoped, how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie roll tootsie pop? please can someone shed light on the claim that when the bible was originaly written it had the name jehovah in it over 7000 times but it was changed because of superstition?
how do you dispute it?
exactly where did they get that crazy version of their bible anyway?
ROBERT,
you said,
That's where translators get into trouble in assuming that they know the intent of the writer. / You Know
Sooooo, is that why the WT boys added so many words, or gave them the most obscure meaning? Were they truly consisitent, as you propose, in translating words the same at all times? Why is it that in John 8:58 they translate the greek as "I existed" yet every other time I see these greek words appearing they translate that as "I am"? Is this the consistency you spoke of? Robert, part of translation is to take into account context and culture. Thus translating "starous" as stake is incorrect because it does not take culture into account. My first question for the so called translation committee is, if starous always only refers to a simple stake and not a CROSS, what word did the greeks use when refering to the implement of death that was shaped like a "T"? Just as "kleenex" has come to mean any facial tissue, so too was "starous" used generically for all "torture stakes" T shaped or otherwise. This usage also does not take into account history. The Romans LOVED their crucifixions, made an ART of it. Used it as a deterrent. They wanted it to be seen. They did it regularly. Joshephus attests to the fact that the Romans had a regular site for crucifixion outside Jerusalem, and had a permenant fixture of "scaffolding" upon which the cross beam carried by the condemned was affixed. The Romans wanted the crucifix to be seen from a distance. Now an upright stake with no cross beam, might look like MANY things from a distance. But a T shaped cross was NOT mistaken for anything else from a distance. Ceaser, when he was still in his teens, had crucified over 500 pirates at once, and he made each man fashion his own cross WITH cross beam.
Another example of the fallacy of your agrugment about the translation committee being consistent is in rendering THIS IS MY BODY as THIS MEANS MY BODY. Yes the greek word used there can indeed be translated MEANS, but it is one of the most obscure applications, and not consistent with other usage of the word in the rest of their so called translation.
Just a few observations, sorry about the "Cross" tangent, just one of my personal peeves.

CP most radical revolutionaries of the day were NOT written about. Would the story of Spartacus have been told if only he and a handful of other slaves revolted and he had been tried in some back water Calabrian town? Hardly! The impact of Jesus life was not felt until AFTER his death, and then gradually. I find the fact that the Jews rather than denying Jesus ever lived, try instead to discredit him as the son of a whore. Extrabiblical sources include and are not limited to, Philo, Tacitus, Josephus, and the Talmud. The biblical sources can not be discounted out of hand. There are at least 8 and as many as 14 different writers for the NT writing from different locations at different times. I've not read any serious historians that call into doubt the existence of Jesus as a real person. Can you guys name any who do?
