MoeJo,
Each case is different, it might help us if you gave us some details. Only this, frontal attacks are generally ineffective.

any help you can give, i would appreciate.. "plant your own garden and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

anyone here got any stories about apostates going on the rampage at any meetings, assemblies, conventions.. i haven't seen any but a young witness told me that his previous cong.
called the police to a meeting cos a df person went apesh*t once.. also, all aussie jw's should know about the riot at a glenelg convention in adelaide in the 1940's where apostates rushed to the sound equipment and some jw stood in there way and kinghit one of them.
(see 1983 yearbook).. from the apostle ak

in the late 70's, i began experiencing health problems.
the elders wanted to know if i purchased anything new, thinking i was under demon attack.
the only thing new in our household was a kitten.
Fred,
Somedays you're an absolute RIOT. Thanks for the chuckle.

With all it's glaring faults I'm still quite impressed that the Catholic Church vis-a-vis Pope John Paul II has issued apologies for our past atrocities. I think we're starting to get the picture, however slowly.

i am trying to find out more on the translators of the jw's bible.
they claim and so it claims in the front of their bible that it was translated by experts in greek and hebrew.
what training if any did these people actually have in these ancient languages.
Come on WTS defenders, ANSWER ME!

215 years or 430 years?
the july 15th wt study some have been talking about (not sure of which issue of the wt is involved) was quoted as saying this, "when the israelites headed for freedom after spending 215 years in egypt, much of that time in slavery, a vast mixed company also went up with them.
(exodus 12:38) ".
GADS I may end up having to agree with Robert on this one, I"ve actually heard a similar explanation. In fact the foot note to Exodus 12:40 in the New American Bible states;
In Egypt: according to some ancient sources "in Canaan and Egypt" thus reckoning from the time of Abraham. Cf Gals 3,17
Oh but the words are bitter in my mouth, Robert is correct in principle I think, though I'm not ready to use exact terms like "215 years."

come on, you extrovert guys, be honest now.. wasn't giving a public talk a heady experience?.
didn't you get a real buzz just from being able to keep your audiences eyes riveted on your every gesture?.
did you get a high from suddenly pausing and making your listeners wait in breathless anticiption for your next word?.
Often times while deployed to various locations throughout the world I've had opportunities to serve as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist (EME)when no Catholic priest is available. I always deploy with consecrated hosts (communion bread). On those occasions when I have a communion service I would use the prescribed readings of the day and give a comment upon the scriptures (NOT mind you a sermon, lay people do not give sermons). Often times I would have a congregation of forty or fifty soldiers including at times a general officer or two (even foriegn national officers). Yes, it is a heady exerience, especially when you have these same big wigs coming up after the service to congratulate you on a fine job. PRIDE is for sure my biggest sin. I have to watch out for that. I hope I do these things from an attitude of service and not vanity. As Paul says, I don't even judge myself. I'm a bit biased.
I have to imagine it's the same for those giving the public talks.

I still can't decide if Scholar is in ernest or just a troll. To hard to tell these days, and I'm so cynical anymore.
Unless the WTS will produce the names and credentials of their so called translators, we have the word of Ray Franz as to who was responsible for this travesty of a "translation" without contradiction.
Darth Fred, No one is going against the name of God, least of all Ray Franz, we only oppose it's IMPROPER use.
Accuracy, you said,
Just a question to those who say the name "Jehovah" has no place in the NT: How about those places where the writers quoted from the Hebrew scriptures, which did contain the name? The fact that we can not find any manuscripts before the 16th century that contain the Tetragrammton in the NT speaks VOLUMES. Most of the NT quotes from the OT come from the Sepuagint translation. There were as many of those floating around that had Kyrios and Adonai instead of the Tetragrammaton as not. However, IF the Society would stop at only including the divine name in direct quotes from the OT I wouldn't mind too much. However, they add it in many places that are not quotes from the OT.And, if use of the name "Jehovah" is "proof" of JW bias, how about the other, non-Witness versions which use or have used the name in the NT, from the 16th century on, and the many Hebrew translations which use it in the NT? None of these people were Jehovah's Witnesses
There is no scholarship involved in the NWT, only theological bias which insists often using the most obscure possible translation of a word to prove it's point.
For all you NWT defenders, here's a question. The society insists on using "torture stake" as the only correct translation of stauros and xylon. If this is the case, then what word did the greeks commonly use to mean the "T" shaped cross that was NORMALLY used in Roman crucifixion?

i find it weird that the jehovah witnesses disrespect other relegions by calling their's the "truth".
by saying this aren't the wt's saying that there is no other answer and all other relegions are wrong.
i also think it is disrespectfull the way they call house holders "prospects".
Yes, that is exactly what they are saying, and not by implication either. They say it straight out.
