I always sing Stay awake, stand firm, grow mighty. But they probably did away with that song!

Purged songs of the Watchtower
by LogCon inmy memory of singing the kingdom songs go back to when i was a child in the 1950's.
they still hold a place in my memory and my heart.
how can something that is so much a part of your childhood not stay embedded in your heart.?.

Categories of Former Jehovah's Witnesses
by neverendingjourney ini was never disfellowshipped, but it's been about 10 years since i was an active jw.
i've made an occasional meeting or half-day at an assembly here or there, strictly at the behest of family (maybe once a year), but i'm completely disconnected.
more importantly, mentally i'm 100% free.. we all have a tendency to project our views and beliefs onto others, and tending to believe that other former jws share our views is no different.

Born in, parents and the congregation told me one thing, but our lives and how we treated each other didn't match. I left at 19, ran off and got married to a worldly guy that I knew for 4 months. Got mixed up in drugs and everything I had always wanted to do, got burnt out pretty quick and was left confused, bitter and sad. Met another guy, and we married and had a kid. I went to a baptist church a few times and like a lightbulb I understood what Jesus death and resurrection really meant for me and it changed my life forever!! I am not disfellowshipped. I've been out for about 14 years. My mom and all family are still very much in it and sad for me. So cat 1 and maybe 3 or 4...I'm happy, though. I reached out to a #2, who was no longer active and did not get a response either...I think one day, she's hoping to go back, y'know, when she gets her life together.

So, I am not DF'd or DA'd at the moment and my family knows I attend a baptist church. Recently my husband and I were asked to give our testimony in our Sunday school class. I mentioned the scripture in
Psalm 27:10: When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up and
Matthew 10:37 - Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me
as to encouraging scriptures that help me as my family is lightly shunning me (I am not invited to family gatherings, they barely speak to me). So somehow my mom must have seen the picture of my husband and I giving our testimony on Facebook and she posted a scripture - which, whenever she does post a scripture it is most assuredly aimed at me - it was Ezekiel 38:23 And I shall certainly magnify myself and sanctify myself and make myself known before the eyes of many nations and they will have to know that I am Jehovah.
At first I thought it was either aimed at me, or just a scripture she put on there in response to it being easter and there was so much talk of Jesus. Once I posted the scripture where Jesus says "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the father except through me" and she responded with "Right, to get to Jehovah" and I said "Yes, Jehovah the Father" and she said "Yes, Jehovah God" and I said "Jehovah God...the father" and then said "what in the world" and she "lol"...so for some reason Jesus upsets her if I am not mentioning Jehovah specifically...
But then she messages me and just puts a sad face on it. I wanted so much to respond to that nonsense, but my husband told me to let it go. I think that there is much more shunning to come and God is getting me ready for this battle. Of course, I should just let it go, but, honestly, it is so annoying!!! I know a lot of you have it worse than me, but it is rough, I have to admit! Just wanted to get this out to people that understand!! Thanks!

He Is Risen, the axial component of christianity
by designs insunday hundreds of millions and possibly up to two billion people will join in some service in observance of the resurrection of jesus.
it is the central issue which takes the teachings of jesus from the philosophy of doing good to others to the ultimate truth which it claims.
it was the axial argument of the apostle paul in 1 cor.

I am going to an Easter service tomorrow because that's what they are doing at my church. Now, we all know that "Easter" is a pagan celebration to worship Esther or whatever, but, I say, if it leads someone to put their faith in Jesus, then maybe it's not so bad. I myself repented of my sins on Easter...after I heard a detailed explanation of how Jesus died and I felt ashamed of how I had been living my life and was going to make sure to live my life from now on being appreciative and serving God and Jesus, not myself!!

New light Watchtower magazine leaked from organization weeks ahead of general release
by cedars inhttp://jwsurvey.org/governing-body-2/new-light-watchtower-magazine-leaked-from-organization-weeks-ahead-of-general-release.
if doctrinal explanations are missing from the article, it is because they are also missing from the magazine.. i would like to give my thanks again to my source for supplying me with the magazine article weeks ahead of its scheduled release.
it showed remarkable courage, because risks were taken.

The FIRST Memorial Ive missed in 41 years
by Londo111 inlast year, my last jw memorial, i listened to the talk as an outsider would.
the speaker strung unrelated texts together and for the first time, i saw that the interpretations made no sense.
afterward, i had a private memorial with homemade unleavened bread and wine with four people--three of whom partook.

The famous story in our family is that when I was about 3 or 4 when the emblems were passed, I set the crackers on my lap and almost ate some, but then they told me to pass it to the lady behind me and I remember wondering why she was going to get to have it and not me..haha...

My Wife's Father Passed Away
by TOTH inwell, the day finally arrived.
everyone says we were expecting it...but, not really.
my wife's dad passed away.. he suffered for many years and we were at odds about medications and intrusiveness, but he was just a man in great pain, desperate for relief.

The same thing happened when my grandpa died. They talked about him for about 5 minutes (1 story about how he gave some water to some JW who were there visiting my grandma) and then the rest was on the beliefs of JW. I was offended because I love my grandpa very much and thought he was more than just 5 minutes!!!!
But that's to be expected, I guess. We have the memories in our minds and hearts and that's what counts!

The JW Dress Code
by sacolton infor the brothers .... suit jacket and pants must always match as part of a complete suit.sport jacket and slacks not permitted.shoes must be polished (i had to go home and change shoes once).shirt should be white or close to white (i.e.
no dark colored dress shirts).do not wear bright colored suits or suits with more than one color (not including pin stripes).tie should not be bright colored or have too many colors.pants should have cuffs (this was recommended, not a rule).suit jacket must be buttoned up at all times (although you may wait until you begin speaking to button up your jacket).never put your hand in your pocket, even for one second.legs must be close together (his exact words were "do not have a horse stance").heels must be together but toes should be slightly apartif you are holding a microphone, the microphone must be point just above the chin, not at the mouth.if you are holding a microphone, do not put the other hand in your pocket (i cannot stress this enough, they will get you for this).do not lean on the lectern (podium, pulpit).whew!
strict dress-code guidelines straight from the presiding overseer.

I remember my dad being counseled on the fact that he wore colored shirts - shortly after, they all started to wear them.
Also, one time he had to get dressed quick because he just got home for work, so he didn't wear socks and was counseled for that - it was on a Monday night in someone's house.
I don't understand why they can change their doctrines, but not the dresscode. Slacks and a nice shirt are perfectly acceptable for ladies. For our family, it became about how many dresses we could buy for every special event - like a fashion show!
In our church now, I wear jeans and it feels good that i don't have to worry about what I am wearing, but can just listen to the message!

Memorial Hell
by thecrushed intoday has been one of the most aganizing days since i woke up.
my family has been pressuring me to show up at the memorial for the past week.
it became very intense today with my dad texting me constantly to get me to confirm and when i didn't answer he would call my wife and then she would constantly nag me to answer my dad and so on and so forth.

It is difficult. When my family told me I was worshipping the devil, it was hard at first, but it gets easier over time. It must be especially hard since it's your wife. Some other people on here have successfully woken up their spouses, so it's possible. Just keep loving her as you normally would. She'll be sad, but you, as a husband, have so much influence! Just let her go to the meeting without reproach, though, becuase then other people will claim convince her it's persecution or satan and it isn't. I would say, though, continue to read the bible and pray, take care of the poor and it's good you have support on here. Don't give up on God because of what JW say!!
