NON Jehovah Witness to marry a JW

good morning.

i am contemplating marriage to a long time jehovah witness.

i, myself, have no intentions of becoming a jw.

Well, I want to ask, "Have you spoken of life 'issues' with your JW intended."

What does he tell you about your wedding, surely he knows you two can't be married in his Kingdom Hall. He will also be viewed as 'spiritually weak' for marrying outside the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society. You say he is a long time witness - does he hold a position within his congregation?

Have you discussed how your children will be raised. If you go along with the children being raised as witnesses, are you aware there will be no birthday celebrations for them... No Christmas... no Thanksgiving gathering... No Easter...No Independence Day celebration, no acknowledgement of Mother's Day, Father's day; the list is endless.

They will not be permitted to participate in 'holiday' activities at their school, and also will be discouraged re participation in ANY activities, such as Scouts, sports, 4-H,YM/YWCA, and much, much more. Is this the sort of upbringing you picture for future children?

Sincerely, InquiringMind, you do need to 'inquire' further - and ask your 'intended' about such things.

Request for Opinions

i requested that my sons (both jws) come to my home for a family meeting today.

had nothing to do with religion.

both of them know i don't go to meetings and that i have intellectual disagreement with wtbs.. son #2 said that before we begin the meeting, he would like to offer up prayer.

Along with all above, I, too, say "Good for you."

Knowing the family issue(s) that you are dealing with, this may not be the only meeting you will have. So, I think it was very, very important for you to set this PRECEDENT...otherwise, your Mr. Company Man son would continue to guide things in his own controlling JW fashion...a dismal prospect IMO.
Aggghh...glad you were 'spared.'

What an interesting post. I'm glad you made your 'witnessing PLUS community college' statement at the assembly. Just maybe it let a lightbulb go on in someones head, and they were inspired
to pursue further education!!

The way they handled it, is another matter,...shameful. And, re the announcement you were no longer a MS, well, you are right...they were big LIARS.

It was good to note the supportive call you later received from your parents; I'm sure you appreciated their effort.

Very, very glad to hear the worst of it is over, Es. I'm certain it has been stressful for you to deal with, on top of everything else. I would very much like to 'hear' what transired re the blood issue/treatment of your Dad,

So very happy you were able to exit as a family. My heart goes out to those that don't. I'm glad that your in-laws, at least, will continue a family relationship with their son and you. I wish there were no ramifications for anyone leaving...it just shouldn't be, sigh.

skimming earlier, i noticed the name satir.. i had occasion to work with a very special older woman who was an absolute delight.

she had trained with virginia satir, who is now long dead, and vs had invited her to be part of her peace group.

Uncle Elder Comes To Town

on the way to work mom mentioned that her brother uncleb(elder in another state) is coming to visit and stay with her for a bit.. seems like his best and long time friend co sal infantino is taking a short vacation from the 'circuit work' and is going to be here at the same time.

of course they have time planned together.. what i found interesting is that i have been invited over to 'talk' with him???

?hmmmmmmmmmm considering that up until now i have persona non grata during his visits.. any suggestions how i can slip some silentlambs and other info into his suitcase?

Hi Tina,

Sure has a 'bad smell' to me. Since, you, too, have managed to 'just walk' - perhaps they want to try to get some type of 'apostate' statement from you, in order to take action. Then they would try and put pressure on 'Mom' to shun you??? Just my thoughts, but I think you are correct in just avoiding them at all costs. Please keep us posted. I also have wondered if there isn't some sort of 'round-up' of 'walkers' happening. Thanks for sharing.
