I would say the blood ban is perhaps the greatest example of going beyond what is written.

Regulations Beyond Those Provided in the Scriptures
by Corvin ini found this on the official jw site:
conscience
jehovah's witnesses avoid making rules and regulations beyond those provided in the scriptures, and they do not follow traditions that contradict bible teachings.

This Web site is not designed to distribute current publications to Jehovah's Witnesses.
Of course not, they want to sell it.

From the Watchtower 1922 September 1 p.262:
"The date 1925 is even more distinctly indicated in scripture than 1914."

JW Baby Given Blood
by Kenneson indespite the parents objections, a duval county, florida (jacksonville area) judge ordered blood transfusions for a baby born prematurely.
interestingly, even the aclu did not side with the parents.
see "judge overrides parents on giving blood to baby.

Hurray for the Judge. We should have more of those minded persons to keep the JWs in line.

I keep each copy of the Watchtower and Awake! magazines since 1999...I don't want to be off guard when they change something embarassing in a bound volume, (like they did for the January 1st 1989 Watchtower magazine), I will still have the original!

Just another example of how the governing body is viewed from the other anointed ones and the rank and file JWs. Brings to mind Jesus's words of "..not lording it over...you are all brothers whereas one is your master..."

I've been attending meetings with my parents since 5 years old, baptized in my mid-teens, never pioneered, nor served as an Elder or MS. Married with 3 kids, the wife is still half a JW. Discovered the internet 3 years ago and the anti-JW movement on it. Am now inactive and attending Sunday meetings only to make the family happy. I'm stuck here with nowhere to go.

Undecided, I have a comment for you. After having carefully studied all WTS doctrine and how it compares to the Bible, I can honestly say that the Jehovah's Witnesses religion is NOT any better than any of the other religions, and the leadership of the Society will have to answer to God for many of their doings. This also means that any other christian religion is acceptable. Yes, including the Roman Catholic Church. What is important is the kind of Christian you are and how you as a person follow the teachings and example of Jesus Christ and how you apply this in your day-to-day life.
