Look, there are only two ways the world can go at this point. Either we do not act, and the barbarians grow bolder and meaner, or we do act, and successfully repress them. Our very nation is at risk, and some people are still whining about "the innocent Iraqis". Remember, the Islamic world DANCED IN THE STREETS on 9/11. The world of radical Islam hates us and want nothing more than our death. Sure, if they took the time to get to know us, they might like us better. But they don't want to. So screw em. Kill 'em all, I don't give one good damn. The world could be bathed in blood and it wouldn't faze me - these "innocents" are as culpable as the French Collaborators during the Nazi occupation.

War it is. This war is only about oil in the sense that Iraq HAS oil, so it is a nice side effect that the US gets cheap oil. I have no qualms about using force to protect the flow of a resource that so many lives depend upon. Ambulances use gasoline, so let's make sure they have a steady flow, eh?

This war is about stabilizing the middle east and eliminating radical Islam. The religion must be made to produce watered down, peacekeeping statements - just like the Catholic Church. A Vatican II for Islam? Maybe. The religion itself is not the problem, but the incredible oppression of the cultures dominated by it are a tinderbox for violence.

The Church changed its tune, and now Islam must do so as well.

IF it weren't for oil, would we still act? Well, N. Korea will be the test of that, whether we truly believe that democracy is the best way to stabilize the world or not. Korea has nothing we need, and will be a bloodbath if we act there - so we would be acting from completely altruistic reasons.

What's so bad about imperialism? It worked for Rome. Why can't we force our values on those that for religious or cultural reasons, would prefer to drive planes into our buildings?

I think its about time that the world shared our viewpoint - willingly or not.

ORIGINAL LIFE SPAN VS. CLONING!

with all this interest in cloning, i got to thinking,was it really god's intent that we should live forever in the flesh.were we to enjoy a life span that would never end?

is it true that the length of the life span of those mentioned in the bible were as long as mentioned there?

for example:the potentiality of adam to live forever in the flesh,yet,lived for 930 yrs.methuselah said to be the one who holds the record for the longest life span in the flesh,969 yrs.noah 950 yrs.shem 600 yrs,then the life span drops drastically!

The older I get, the more I hope that life in the flesh forever ISN'T the final answer. I really want to live and experience things, but oblivion is much preferable to toiling on in this hellhole.

I mean, under what conditions would life in the flesh be enjoyable? Only where I wouldn't have to watch my friends get old and die, or die by accidents, or be crippled with arthritis, or unseated by Alzheimer's. It literally would require a million ACTUAL Jesus figures working around the clock, healing guiding and curing, to make this life bearable.

I work in a hospital, where I see every day how life can go on much much longer than it should. My definition of Hell would be to be the only healthy person responsible for tending to everyone else as they poop and dribble the last twenty years of their lives away.

All I want out of this life is to become a better person and fulfill my duties to others. When that's done, I want out. I'm tired of being scared all the time of war and pollution. If there is no life after death, then so be it. I desperately need there to be, so I believe in an afterlife and in a merciful God, but in my darkest hours I simply don't know a damn thing, only that it has to be better than here.

The clones can have the planet - I don't want it.

we have all sat at jw meetings and heard some ridiculous statements that were either shocking or just plain old bunk.

usually it is the same jw individuals that make those statements time and time again.

you know the type..... you can almost expect such comments from them.. jws place great importance on what statements or persons are 'stage worthy'.

Reparations for slavery: Just or unjust?

there's such a broad range of perception on this board, i'm curious to know what you folks think of this issue.

are contemporary decendents of black slaves in the united states justified in asking for monetary reparation for their ancestors' bondage?

if you answer is in the affirmative, some related questions are:.

My ancestors were drafted into the Union Army to fight for other people's freedom. Admittedly, the institution of slavery was perfectly legal under the constitution, but we came around. Reparations are useless.

Every affirmative action program, every bluecoat who starved to death in Andersonville, every white abolitionist who wrote mind-altering literature is a repayment on the debt of slavery. We can't win this argument, all we can do is forgive each other and move on with our lives as equals.

One pundit said that rparations should be paid by people who genuinely feel that they are superior to blacks. In other words, these people either deny their supremacy or pay up for being members of slave owning freakazoids.

I think that universal health care is a much better way to spend a few billion a year.

My theory about the meaning of the number is as follows: It's a reference to Nebuchadnezzars golden image, which he used to unify his empire in false worship. That golden image was in dimensions of sixes, six being a babylonian holy number.

So, in Revelation, when the number appears, it is actually a prediction of a Universal Church of some sort, membership in which will be required to do anything like buy or sell or get married. It's an odd thought, but if an Anti-Christ appears and rules over all, it follows he might try the same thing that Neuchadnezzar did to solidify his power.

I think we need a certain amount of self-appreciation no matter what our situation, that's true. But our actions can help us have apositive attitude - forinstance, my father might have cancer, but at least I am the kind of person that will help him through it, right?
