now, the war is over, the weapons were not used and of course have not been found.. how threatening could they be if they did not even use them when being invaded by a massive force (of the countries they hate)?!
perhaps, as many suspect, they didn't use them because they didn't have them?.
now we're being told that we'll have to be patient and give them time to find them.

do you think that they are well meaning oldsters trying their best to serve god?
or are they corrupt pharisees?
I don't think they actually exist. I think the last living member of the GB died out shortly after 1975, which explains the lack of genuine spiritual input from them. I think the Watchtower's directors currently fake the existence of the GB, ala the Iraqi Information Minister's tactics about Saddam's whereabouts. The new president is actually an AI program written by a hopped up Bethelite who was later "removed" for computer porn when trace amounts of semen were discovered on his mouse.

Yeru,
I actually vote Republican, but I lean towards the Libertarian viewpoint.
I really view government as a necessary evil, to be as small and restricted as possible.
My mentioning of income taxes was a jest - I realize that the modern world requires a professional army with high-tech equipment. So defense is permissible, and is in fact mentioned in the preamble to the constitution. However, roads are historically paid for by state and local taxes, which I have no problems with. My feelings are that communities are eroded by reliance on federal monies, which are too big and complicated in origin to properly audit and evaluate. When towns and local organizations actually have to debate about how to accomplish something, participation in politics is more immediate, more "real" for lack of a better term. Solves voter apathy. You might not care if Bush or Gore is in the White House, but you definitely will be at the town meeting to discuss your local property taxes...
For instance, health care - could you imagine if a town or city decided to purchase health insurance for all of its citizens, regardless of their income or work status? Not only could they negotiate a good rate as one of the biggest spenders, they would be providing a benefit for their inhabitants, one that would attract people to live there.
Its frustrating for me to live in Pittsburgh, one of the world's most advanced medical centers, and not be able to get my broken ankle tended to...
If I didn't have to put one third of my income into the federal box, where it disappears and is never seen again, I could contribute to a city-wide fund for health insurance. A fund which even the local papers could audit and understand and question and debate and suggest...
Local communities, when all they have to do is apply for a federal grant, don't bother debating the issues, and the lack of debate erodes community interest and the sense of common purpose...

I'm with ThiChi on this one. Income Tax is unconstitutional! And so is the War on Drugs! My basic freedom of getting stoned on my undeclared tip income is being threatened! Well, it would be if I actually declared my tip income and didn't have the phone number of a certain Dr. Happy... you know what I mean... Hmm... What are the feds going to do, impound my hemp sarape?
Anyway, I think that Congress is starting to wake up and give Ashcroft a hard time about his desire for more power, as well as reviewing what has happened in the past two years.
9/11 was a huge event for America, and the whole world has been shaken because of it, but we'll get by. The press is starting to bitch about Bush again, so it's all working out.

i am wondering if thier have been any recent studies done regarding a higher incident of scuicide and mental illness in the jw community
Hey,
If you're suicidal, you are in the darkest place mankind can ever know. To actually seek out one's own destruction is a violation of the most primal instincts. I've been there, I know somewhat. Not event induced trauma, but rather a chemical imbalance that has plagued me since my childhood.
I was reading the Army survival manual, and they said that the most important tool to surviving is your own mind - adaptability and stubborn refusal to give in...
But how can we seek life when our own minds betray us??? Not through fear of punishment, but love of those around us. We have to survive so we don't let them down! My fiancee relies on me, my fellow actors need me to play my part literally, my cats wouldn't get fed without me...
This necrotic demon of despair plagues us, taunts us, demands our blood to seek surcease from pain... and he won't get it from me...
You need to realize that your kids need you to live, so that they won't spend the rest of their lives being raised in a cult! Take a deep breath, take your medications, see a psychiatrist, but keep breathing! Keep swinging! Don't give up! Battle onward, my fellow warrior, and soon glorious victory will be yours!
And guess what you win... the chance to fight for your life tomorrow... that's how it goes. No false comfort from me, living is going to hurt A LOT, but there are people counting on you to do your job as a father!

You summed it up perfectly. I sit here, hour after hour, rising in rankings, studying how many posts I've made, how many posts Farkel has made... look how many people complained when Simon instituted posting limits!!!
I keep analyzing my damned ex-religion. Maybe that's why I can't completely break free?? Although I do enjoy my association with you fellow vomit-loving dogs!

Sometimes - especially towards the end, because I was starting to use the Bible to help and comfort people rather than judge and condemn. I found myself evading the Society's responses to questions like, "Who will die at Armageddon?" and instead answered with "Jehovah's concern is not killing people, it is saving them..." which is still kind of stuffy, but I think a compromise with my desire to actually assist people rather than knock on their door and damn them...
So yeah, as long as I was actually spritually assisting people and not passing Awakes out like candy in a bizarre reversed Halloween ritual... "Knock Knock! You're Damned! Like my tie? Have a Watchtower!"

well, lets just say this was one of my major hangups when i was w/ the jws.. to think that the one you loved, & were married to, or if you were single never married before, & then making it to the new world not being able to marry again was such a horrifying concept..!
i remember some pics being changed on the front pages of literature, or illustrations being changed inside of literature where once there were a wife & children meeting their father/husband in the graveyard after resurrection, & then they took the illustrations away, with maybe a whole family just welcoming back one of their children from the grave.
well, i asked my mom over & over about this teaching, & she told me to ask the brothers... the brothers said that i would just have to have faith that things would workout in the resurrection, or that the society would get new light about the subject, but that i should never question the faithful & discreet slave.
It's a baloney question, because the New Order ain't coming anytime soon...
But yeah, I remember being troubled about this peculiar doctrine. I think Jesus was a pot-smoking hippie type who was incredibly high and broken hearted about mary Magdalene running around on him, and so he figured that paradise involved no sex at all... He WAS JUST A MAN! Not everything he said was inspired, or perfect, or even interesting... He's just a guy like you and me, and that includes the occasional despair over the whole sex thing. Jesus had it, Paul had it, I've had it... it's called melodrama, and we all indulge in it as soon as we have fulfilled the other parts of Maslow's hierarchy...
