Did you wear your badge outside the convention, so as to "give a witness?"
by truthseeker inthis year at the dc, we were expressly told to wear our badges at all times, even when going to a restaurant or some place else, so we could "give a witness.".
did any of you hear follow through with this arrangement?
did you have one of those "fantastic" experiences, when someone commented on your badge?.

Nosferatu,
very good comments made by you and others in the thread.
However, I've studied my JW mother, and her reasons for becoming a JW.
Nice!
JWs teach people to block out mistakes of the past, and they do this with their doctrine as well. Because of this, my mother's memory fails her repeatedly. Also, when my memory succeeds where hers fails, she tries to convince me that my memory is failing as well. I've had arguments with her about trivial things in my childhood. I hear lots of "You don't remember that! You're making it up!" She's either astounded by my memory, or she doesn't want me to remember. She wants me to lie to myself, just as she has been taught to.
Man, you can't imagine how hard I laughed on this one. If it wasn't your intention, please forgive me. It brought back a lot of memories of myself growing up. I also couldn't help but remember of 1984 by George Orwell. 'We have never been at war against Eastasia... Eurasia is who our enemy is...', remember?

The message has changed . . . or am I wrong again?

I don't understand why if this Organization truly wants to attract people (or keep them in) why they don't change their stategies a bit. They are becoming very uninviting--even to their own members.
I think that the Society is in total confusion on what is the way to move forward. This might explain the conflicting statements, change in views, that we see here and there.
At one meeting they say "love". At the next they say "hate". "Love" and "hate" seems to have the same semantics.

No better way to spend your youth and other BS...
by Confucious inhey guys, .

The BS of it all is that this CO goes on and on about how wonderful it is to Pioneer - go to Bethel, whatever.
Yes, they do say that. Once, in a meeting, we heard from an otherwise nice elder: "if you are not happy doing Jehovah's service, then the problem is on YOU", with stress on the word "you".
Very sickening, indeed!

How to account for the disappearing of the faithful slave class?
by Pole inthe wts managed to smoothly get out of the expectations they raised in connection with the generation 1914 'prophecy'.
i can't remember any jehovah's witnesses complaining about it - not here in poland at least.
they definitely scored a point here in their game of indoctrination.. however they still have a pretty obvious doctrinal problem.

Now, that is exactly what I mean. The GB is a central institution in the org. Imagine you have a friend your age and this friend realizes he is annointed. He ends up as a member of the GB. With time he comes up with new reinterpretations of prophecies, which you have to accept as divinely revealed truth. The clandestine character of the GB is lost for good. YOu know this guy, and so you may have doubts as to why he is so more special than you are.
They don't have to go this far. There are quite a few "brothers" in his 60 or 70 just waiting to be appointed as GB members. It is just a matter of convincing them they are of the "annointed".
That's why I think they can keep playing this game for a long time, while mantaining the number of "annointed" around the 8000 they are today.

The Watchtower is Frightened ...of Biblical Flags!
by metatron inin the aug. 1 wt, in a secondary article on numbers, the following paragraph appears:.
"what were "the signs" around which the three-tribe divisions were to encamp in the wilderness?.
the bible does not give a description of what these signs were.

Hi Sunspot.
Just after 9-1-1, when folks were putting out flags in their yards or on their porches, wouldn't the WTS frown on a JW merely "putting up" a flag showing thier human support for the lives that were lost?
Yes, the WT would frown on a JW if he did that, but the reason is that these are national flags. What I am saying is that the WT stance on flags does not apply to just any kind of flags. The ones erected by Israel's could very well be an identification flag, which wouldn't require anyone to salute/idolize it.
But just be reminded that I do think that the WT is being dishonest by not admitting that those signs were actually flags (see above).

Blood Transfusions are Biblically Supported
by allpoweredup into jehovah's witnesses elders: blood transfusions are biblically supported: acts 15:20 says abstain from blood but 1 samuel 14:32-5 says saul's army ate unbled meat to not starve and no verses show god not forgiving them.
christ says god also forgave david's eating temple holy bread to survive and that god wants mercy not sacrifice.
(mt 12) the may 22, 1994 awake tells of 26 jehovah's witness kids who died without transfusions, and by common sense in massive bleeding as in car wrecks blood expanders won't save lives http://www.ajwrb.org.

Hi Gita.
Your comparison of a flag to the Virgin Mary it's not a good one. Please allow me to explain:
there are a number of different types of flags. Some people have a flag of their favorite sports team. Ships have identifying flags. Some people even put up flags to celebrate the different seasons of the year. And, of course, there the national flags. From those, only the national flags are the ones that people salute.
I never saw a person saluting, say, his sports team flag.
Were those flags put up by the tribes in Israel national flags? I doubt it. Were those flags idolized? I doubt it. They could have erected flags for idenification purposes, for example.
Idolizing, by saluting, a national flag is what the WT opposes.

I just notice this unbelievable statement in the WT article:
I wanted to check the mathematical accuracy of what she was going to discuss about the year
1914.So, the guy wanted to check the "mathematical accuracy" of what a windows cleaner had to say about the year 1914?
Please give me that Calculus book...

Interesting, blondie. Thanks.
My parents often reminded us children that the only way out of
poverty was to get a good education. As a result, at a very early age,
I set my mind on obtaining a college degree. How ironic! They print this here and elsewhere they say it's all a waste of time. Hypocrites!
Ohh, yes, right! JW loyals will say that this was his parents view. Ok, ok!
