VIDEO: Buckley Report: Jehovah's Witnesses

It worked for me. I think you have to have the player installed in your browser.
I agree, too bad that Buckley didn't do his research well. Great part of the report is focused on the conversion of hispanics. This should be to him a great sign that there is no "large numbers" being converted at all.
Another interesting thing is when the "elder" says "we are a Bible-based religion; a Christian religion...". If he had uttered those words about 50 years ago, he would likely be disfellowshipped on the spot.
Remember, "religion is a snare and a racket". And it continues to be so to this very day.

Christmas and Thanksgiving are all about having a great time!
by observador inwe are having friends over for thanksgiving this year, and we're enjoying every bit of it.
as for christimas, we are playing all that game with our little one; santa claus coming with a gift for her; we're helping her decide which present we'll ask santa to bring, and all that crap.
we're enjoying all of that, especially since our parents never did that to us.

I can tell you: we're having a good time. It's all about having fun. One day, my little one will look back with fond memories of the time we spent together in the holidays.
And to think that for so many years we accepted the Society's demonization of such an innocent fun time.
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

Are they idiots??
by nonamegiven inon my years as a jw i have always had doubts.
i have dismissed these as me being overly critical or some such nonsense.
now i'm on my way out the door, well i"m out the door i'm just working on shutting it right now.

I think there are several reason why seemingly intelligent people stay put as JWs. One of the reasons is power (also known as privilege among JWs).
I had a friend who seemed to be an intelligent man, but, has been a JW for almost 30 years. He was an elder when we were in close contact, and what I noticed about him is that he is very fond of the power that comes from being an elder.
He saw quite a few problems (such as the baptism of 10 year old children, for example) but he loved the adulation of having brothers and sisters coming to him for "spiritual counsel" and much else. Coming from a poor family and from a poor state in the country and rising to the top of local ranks gave him a sense of importance he wouldn't have anywhere else.
I also noticed another thing about smart JWs: They don't do all the things the Society prescribes! This friend above went to college and got a college degree (a lame one, but still a college degree).
I put off my college education for about 9 years after High School, but decided to go for it, despite all that talk against that we all know. Looking back, I think that was the beginning of my breakaway.
So, I think that sooner or later smart people will see through it and leave or stay because of other interests, not because they don't see it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you very much for softening my troubled conscience. Now that I know I'm normal, I can stop thinking about it and actually doing something about it. :)

Anybody notice
by Champion inmaybe someone already posted this and if so sorry.
my jw 86yr old dad spoke to me today and began telling me about the wonderful tract!!
i tried not to say much(but of course i had to) and tried to just listen.
-
observador
I didn't notice the absence of "jehovah" in the tract, but even worse than that, in my opinion, is the absence of "UN" United Nations Organization in a tract whose theme is the impending destruction of false religion.
As I said the other day, watch out for new light!!!

New Tract link?
by jeeprube indoes anyone actually have a copy of the new tract scanned?
i'd love to see it before monday.
-
observador
Thanks, blondie.
Very interesting: a tract entirely on false religion and not a single reference to the most vilified worldwide organization by the Society for the last 6 decades: the United Nations Organization.
Watch out for new light!!!

Heard at last Sunday talk...
by Justice-One ini almost had to sneeze and scream bullshit when i heard this.
the brother giving the talk said that the society has never made a prediction about when the end would come.
he said people just read what the society published, and added their own thoughts to it!!!

I'm glad there are still 'brothers' like him, giving this type of bullshi talk. It was because of one of those talk that I went to research and am here. Thanks a lot, brother Whiteliar. Observador.

Witnesses and Voting (in Chile)
by pseudoxristos injanuary 15th of this year, i happened to be in chile (work related) during the presidential runoff election.
on the day of the election, we could not work and most businesses were closed so everyone would have an opportunity to vote.
i was told that it was compulsory that everyone of age vote.
-
observador
This is not a issue at all, I don't think.
In Brazil, it is mandatory to both register and vote.
Witnesses get around this by going to the polling places and invalidating the ballot, which is something recommended by the Society many many years ago.
