  please don't take this the wrong way if your battling weight problems, that's not what this thread is meant to talk about.

  i am asking this question because jehovah's witnesses claim they have "the best way of life", "god's blessing", "the truth" and are trying to change the habits of healthy people by turning them in to their own makings.

  i watched people who were great athletes turn all their muscle in to fat because we would get a elder or circuit overseer make remarks they were spending too much time "working out" and "bodily training is beneficial for little".

  Not to be picky, but muscle doesn't turn into fat. They are two distinct tissues and one cannot magically morph into another.

  NAVYTOWN: the Witnesses don't worry about their health now, because they think all will be corrected in Paradise.

  This is the core of the issue. It's the same mentality that keeps a JW from getting an education, having a career, planning for retirement, not having children, etc: The "New System" is coming anyday now, so taking care of their health is a waste of time.

  I've been health conscious since I was a young teenager- I eat very healthy, workout everyday, etc. I have always been criticized by JWs for doing this for a couple of reasons:

  1) time spent in the gym is time stolen from Jehovah™. Therefore, working out is selfish,

  2) "Paradise" is right around the corner, no need to take care of my body, god will intervene soon. I won't live long enough to have any age-related (or poor lifestyle-related) health problems.

  Well, guess what? The nearness of Armageddon, so no need to worry about it, when I began working out as a teenager was 33 years ago!

  According to JWs' application of Acts 15:29, shouldn't they also be refusing medical examinations by gynecologists?

  watchtower uses the following twisted logic to equate receiving a blood transfusion, with feeding on blood:.

  feeding is sometimes done by injecting nutrients intravenously.. blood transfusions are carried out by injecting blood intravenously.. therefore the intravenous injecting of blood can be equated with feeding intravenously.. hence, true christians refuse blood transfusions in order to obey the biblical command to "abstain from blood".. now notice how the same kind of twisted logic leads to the equating of an invasive examination by a gynecologist, with sexual intercourse:.

  sexual intercourse is often done by inserting the penis into the vagina.. certain invasive examinations by a gynecologist is done by inserting an instrument into the vagina.. therefore such invasive gynecological examinations can be equated with sexual intercourse.. hence, true christians refuse such gynecological examinations that are performed by someone to whom they're not married, in order to obey the biblical command to "abstain from fornication".. it's the same kind of twisted reasoning, isn't it?

  This is a common feature is most WT pictures. Who needs a Bible (or Jesus) when an elder wearing a cardigan and cheap-assed tie is available?

  from my perspective, the meetings are held on tuesday and thursday instead of the normal wednesday night during this week and they are more eager to go out in field service.

  sunday came and my wife wanted us to attend the meeting.

  You don't actually have to be a member of the UN to use the library

  True. Access to the U.N. library has never been dependent on becoming an NGO.

  Regardless, even if the UN had the greatest library in the world and it was only accessible to those with NGO status, on what basis can WT justify doing what it did, considering its established record of publicly condemning the UN as the "scarlet colored wild beast" of Revelation, and enemy of God's Kingdom?

  garyneal: Learning what I learned about their association with the UN, I am surprised that the CO would make such a comment in his talk. Evidently, he never got the memo

  Gary- historically WT has a long and established record of condemning other religions for doing the very same thing WT is doing or will eventually be doing as time goes on.

  The difference is, when other religions do these things it's a sin, "apostasy"; when WT does it, they they come up with 1,001 rationalizations why it's acceptable.

  At the very same time WT was condemning the Catholic Church for having no less than 24 NGO positions with the UN, WT was also an NGO.

  It is the height of hypocrisy.
