a few months ago, a danish newspaper printed a set of cartoons about mohammad, the most important prophet of the moslem religion.
a few weeks ago, a small norwegian newspaper followed, and also printed the drawings.
moslems all over the moslem world are now rallying against both the newspapers and the danish and norwegian governments, which they hold responsible for this.
We should encourage all the press of the western world to follow suit. I see two possible outcomes:
1. The loony muslims that are soooo offended will get desensitized,
OR
2. The loony muslims that are soooo offended will get provoked enough to do something stupid against western press. That may galvanize the western world against the loony muslims that are soooo offended.

on sundays, i hardly ever read my watchtower.
i would take 2 minutes to underline here and there just to look good.
if i wanted to make a comment at the watchtower study , i'd read 1 or 2 paragraphs and answer the question related to those paragraphs, that's it.
We were a mixed family (Dad was the UBM). So for a while we had the PO come over to help us pre-study for the bookstudy. We were one of those Wednesday afternoon groups set up especially for those dad-less families. Anyway, one day, he asked us to prepare so we could have our answers ready for when we prepared for the meeting so we could have our answers ready at the meeting. I think he stopped the pre-study not too long after.
But other than that, I never prepared for a meeting in my life. As I think back, what kind of a moron would not be able to find the correct answer while the prior paragraph was being read. There was plenty of time.

i've been "cruising" the boards for two months now, and there appears to be a lot of very knowledgeable and "cool" individuals here.. i recently embarked on a introductory bible-study with the jws in my area.
i know that probably isn't music to most of your ears, but rest assured that i'm not remotely sold on their theology.
nor am i blind to the past scandals and current issues of the wtbts--i've read about four different scholarly works about the society.. i was raised as a lutheran, and i've had a decent amount of bible-schooling in the lutheran denomination.. my questions to you, those who would know, are these:.

Since you are not all that committed, and you are not interested in preaching to them, and you don't seem to want to play with them, try this:
The next time you meet them, ask them to tell you one significant thing that the JWs teach that they disagree with. I think they will either state that agree with everything, or they will give you some simplistic answer. By simplistic answer, I speaking of the kind of answer one might give at a job interview when asked to 'state something negative about yourswelf.'
If they say they agree with everything the society teaches, then you know they are either lying, or you have some boring automaton that will add nothing to the discussion.
If they pick something that they disagree with, and it seems like a significant topic, then I think you are in for a pretty intersting conversation. If this happens, I will envy you. I would love to have such a conversation with a dubbie.

My wife and I like the show a lot. It is one of a very few we will tape if we cannot get to it.
BUT the ratings haven't been much of a godsend - distand third. NBC is cancelling it, in favor of another goddam cop/crime show. It will stop airing after the planned 8 episodes.
I think they mismarketed it. The preliminary commersials made it look like a Housewives knockoff. I'll predict that Aiden Quinn tries to market it to a next-level network. Good luck to 'im.

This is the most loaded sentence. It reeks of mindless obediance in a cult. Everyone should have boundaries, guidelines they follow, values and morals. I love how she tosses in the 'sacrifice' as the last word. Everyone has sacrifices in life. Few people would sacrifice their children for a religious cult.

as a jw, i never thought that i was in a cult.
i thought that other religions were a cult, but not us.. what made you realize that the jw's is a cult?
I was out for many years. But I didn't realize that I had escaped from a cult.
It was only when, a few years ago, I started looking around the internet that realizations started to unfold. Those realizations continue to amaze me, to this day. The more time goes by, the more I consider it a cult - a child murdering, abusing, old-testament, apocalyptic cult.
I shake my head at how long it took to realize.
