Beryl, unfiortunately, taking care of bipolar sisters in need - especially those with daughters that won't scream during a sexual assualt (no one here doubts that by the way) - in no way adds to the authority and wealth of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. So, I wouldn't expect it.

Blowing your Trumpet
by refiners fire inbrothers (sisters) .
now brothers, (and sisters) my concern is that the watchtower articles of prophetic significance in the 1969 book are different from the ones mentioned ( and assumedly significant) in the 1989 book.

I haven't read the 1969 Finished Mystery book in while. But I have recently read the Babylon book and the similarities make it seem that Fred Franz wrote both. Now in the Babylon book, Franz makes references to historical facts and prophecy that point to 1919 as the time Christ chose them as his channel. I have notes of 'weak deductions', and 'cheap implications' all around those passages.
Anyway, where he has added some of those historical facts, he only:
1. Points to the release of Rutherford from prison as the main historical fact.
2. As regards prophecy, he refers to an absurd 'rule of parallel' and ties the 'late1914 to early 1919' time period as somehow parallel to Christ's assention to heaven and the following 3-1/2 years. It is difficult to cite such casuisticism from memory. I have the pages dog-eared at home.
From a larger view, I think that by the time the 60s rolled around, Franz was soooo close to Jehovah himself that no one would ever have dared to edit his writings for anything other than spelling. There are paragraphs in the Babylon book that are unitelligible. And he loads up his chapters with reference to facts that aren't there. When I read his stuff, I look for those references to 'reasonableness': That is where he puts his utterly unsubstantiated guesses and misleading logic.

Downunderandout, I'm home now from a long day of meetings. I've reread my response to you and think that I came at you a bit hard and fast. You and I agree on the heiniousness of the acts described in this thread. But here are a couple things I look for in such reports.
I look for indications that the society tried to cover up the situation - the congregation removed the elder, but I wouldn't be surprised to find that after the victim's family moves, he is reappointed in less than a year.
I look for more severe physical contact to indicate an extreme case - I am relieved when I don't find it.
The things I said about my own connections to child sexual abuse are true - it gets sooo much worse. You can add to that a couple second-hand experiences I've had in my congregation - a friend of mine, and the daughter of a friend of mine. It turns my stomach to think of the infrastructure that protects such bastards. But I didn't want to push back at those that I agree with.
Friends?
John: you and I have tackled a few elders together on this exact topic. We sent 'em packin' - didn't we partner? (For the rest of you, there were a few spicy times over on the SilentLambs site)

Downunder,
I suppose I could have predicted that statement would ruffle a feather or two. But don't get me wrong, I am not minimizing this case or somehow shrugging.
Nonetheless, if you want to see what I mean by 'an extreme case' then go read some of the serious cases available at the SilentLambs site. Read Jessika's story. Spend some time with your state's social workers - yup, go ahead, take in a foster child from a home where the sexual abuse was actually extreme - I have. Go ahead and adopt a child from such a family - deal with the courts, social workers, other foster homes, and the abusive parents themselves. I have. Give it a try and see what that does to your sense of the extreme.

This doesn't see to be a very extreme case. But I'm glad the girl's ordeal is heading to an end. I feel sorry that she will likely need t testify and also deal with repurcussions at the hall. I hope the bastard gets time.
I don't want to shift blame, but it reads to me like there is a bit more blame to go around. If some 38-year-old man gave my 11-year-old daughter see-thru thong underwear, I would have done something then - something much more extreme than throwing it away. Be assured of one thing, he would never have been in my daughter's room with a chance to pick her up for some close dancing.

Do you ever think about returning to Jehovah
by ikhandi inmaybe i was just curious to hear what they were going to discuss.
i went to the two day circuit assembly.
for those who wonder, its theme was taken from psalms 37:3 it's theme trust in jehovah and do good.

I have a suggestion for any that are second-guessing themselves and their departure from the org. But first I want to chime in with one that asked 'why equate returning to the WTS as returning to God?' And I want to agree with another that suggested some study in logic.
For those that have been out long enough to have read some other literature and been exposed to other, freer modes of thought, Try this:
I think we all have certain WTS publications that we remember contained the 'proof' that the Society held the truth. For me it was the amazingly scholarly work, the Babylon book. For others it may have been the truth book, or "God's Kingdom of 1000 years Has Approached." For those more recent, it may have been the Revelation book or the Knowledge book.
- Get a copy of THAT book.
- Get a pen.
- Get a bible, any bible.
- Sit down and read that book with the mindset that they must prove everything they say/claim, or cross it out.
You will be astounded. Sure there will be lots of passages that you didn't cross out - because they said nothing interesting and said nothing that promotes the JW slant on things. But you will mark that book up somethin' silly. When you get to the end you will be left with a shell of a work that you once considered a cornerstone of your belief.
I've done this. Its a very rewarding experience. Anyone else ever done it? Results? opinions?

A riddle ....for you smart bastards!
by gumby inthree men checked into a hotel room for which they paid $30.
the next day, the manager realized that the men had been overcharged.
she gave the bellhop $5 to return to the three men.
-
Buster
Its a good thing the belhop kept some. Because if he had returned the entire $5, the three guests would have paid a collective $25, plust the $0 that the bell hop kept, and we would be missing the entire $5. How can that be good for the economy?
As a matter of fact, if the bell hop had kept the entire $5, the guest would have paid 30, plus the $5 the bell hop kept - now the Gross National Product would be increased by $5. You see, more hotel employee thievery would bail this economy right out of its doldrums.
