I remember the first time we had a Special Assembly Day. One of the annual Circuit Assemblies had been discontinued and the SAD took its place. Anyway, we all went to the same location as the CA had been. not knowing what this special day was about. Our cong went thinking it would be maybe a 2-hour meeting. There had been absolutely no information about it except for start time. We had no idea this thing would go on for hours and hours. Oh no! 5 hours as I recall. We were starving and when we left. The last 3 hours of the program were lost on everyone.

Feeling Sick
by FreeGirl2006 injust found out my 12 year old niece got baptized on saturday.
that is the same age i got baptized....as we all know it just should not be allowed.
if a child is not mature enough in other areas of life how can they be mature enough to commit their lives to the borg?

I am so sorry to hear it FreeGirl. Maybe, just maybe, you can maintain close ties with her so as to be a real support to her when she is in her mid teens and going trhough H trying to live up to the Borgs requirements.

The Last NWT in America
by NeverKnew inso, my non jw cousins have been telling me about a couple of jws that have been "coming over a lot and talking about their religion" (it's hilarious that my cousins don't see these sessions as "bible studies").
it seems that i've been hearing about these ladies for at least a year but i doubt that my cigarette smoking, pants wearing, no-dress owning, flip-flop wearing, verbal swearing cousin they come to meet with isn't always available.
i was told that the last time they were there, they asked my cousin to get her bible.

Your cousin likely did get the last NWT. It must have been deep deep in someone's bookbag.
Isn't that an amazing mindset of the Witnesses. They come by on a supposedly innocent visit to have a Bible discussion. How nice. But at the slighest hint that you don't agree lockstep with everything they say, "You have a problem" or "You are confused." No, I'm not confused, I'm just reading exactly what the verses say. But they deduce your confusion in less than a second but have absolutely no idea what your background might be.

Quick Poll - How many are...
by mrhhome inhow many here are (a) ex-jw, (b) non-jw with jw relatives or spouses, (c) inactive jw, or (d) active jw who stay in for your own reasons?.
-
Bob_NC
By WT rules (c) inactive JW on purpose since 2000
Reality, I don't believe any of it, so I am (a) ex-JW
Interesting to see so many here that are regular publsihers and so forth. The WT doesn't stand a chance long term.

Who is your favorite "Apostate"? Who helped you see the truth about "The Truth"?
by minimus ini would have to say that ray franz was the biggest influence for me.. when i first got on this board, a poster by the name of james, a former bethelite and organization heavy, helped me understand a lot of the inner workings in the upper echelons of the society.. .
and of course, farkel's common sense approach was (usually) helpful..

Ray Franz for me too. He is a perfect example of "The pen is mightier than the sword." His use of the pen, his writings, has been one of the most powerful tools to freeing people from the WT brainwashing that I know of. Helped, of course, by writings of Carl Olaf Johnnson, James Penton and others.
Even as I was reading CofC years ago I was wondering if Ray maybe still believed in the WT. I could not yet conceive that someone could really leave the organization after being on the GB. Now the organization and its supposed power is laughable.

Gopher, the ones that come in and leave,
they are serving Jehovah for the wrong reasons (don't know what wrong reasons, just wrong)
they are being sifted out
Jehovah didn't draw them ;D

Am I wasting my time?

You did more good than you know by blasting that nonsense and calling it what it is. They are not used to being confronted about their petty nonsense. I can assure you that several JWs felt the heat of the truth. You did well. Now you can be the nice guy, but they will never forget that day that you called them out. They know you were the only one being truthful that day.
Now, let me go back and read all the other poster's comments.

1914 to 1975
by Bob_NC inback when i was preaching that this generation of 1914 would by no means pass away, that they were all very old, having been old enough in 1914 to understand the significance of the events of that year...it was just me running ahead.
i made it all up!
running ahead with ideas of my own.

Welcome Andy. I don't know how much it helps to know that many many people do not share the "condemn homosexuals" mentality. I am so glad to see the progression of gay rights so that gay couples can marry and have the same status as heterosexual couples.
This from a straight man and former long time elder. Many of us feel no desire to say anything about who someone loves and how they express it.

CoC - Almost half way...
by MissConfused inthanks to all who suggested me this book.
almost half way through the reading.
it sheds light to the darkest secrets of this cult.

Ray Franz' best service to humanity was his two books. I read them both twice. COC rang true all the way through.
