Skydiving/Parachuting. A disfellowship offense?
by stealthmode-brazil ini'm an active witness from brazil (who would leave if it weren't for my family/friends inside) and always dreamed about practicing skydiving.
but as radical sports are a no-no for witnesses... i wonder if any elder or ex-elder on this forum knows if an active jw, practices skydiving/parachuting once and/or regularly, can he or she be disfellowship on that basis?
i'm considering secretly jumping but afraid if someone finds out.

This is not as official as the erudite blondie's always excellent research, but worth relating. Years ago a bro. was skydiving and the local BOE ganged up on the poor guy, telling him it was wrong. When the circuit overseer came round, they complained to him about this bro. The CO met with him, and since the CO had been in the airborne before coming into the truth, he went skydiving with the bro.!
Of course, this was years ago, before the more current stress on abject obedience in everything, so it prob. would not happen today. Still, I thought I should relate the real-life account. This account was reported to me by an old, retired CO. I certainly believe it since he confided many such things to me & was always reliable.

Both Seraphim23 and LostGeneration are right. Theologically, the changes in this WT are significant since now the borg is teaching things like all the anointed are gone to heaven before Armageddon---how? Who takes over? Are they now ready to start embracing the rapture doctrine?
The current interpretation of the sheep & goats parable means people get saved without having to serve Jehovah beforehand, just as 'dazed but not confused' has pointed out (http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/250635/1/Whats-the-incentive-for-becoming-a-JW-now-July-15th-2013-Watchtower), a REAL change in WT theology!
The borg's current conjectures will lead to all kinds of theological problems, but LostGeneration is right, very few Witness care about this stuff. They are far more interested in the practical concerns of daily life, including where and with whom to socialize.
But a few will care about this significant change in theology. Will it lead to problems for the borg? We'll see....
Perhaps most interesting in the big picutre is why suddenly there is this interest in the GB's part to start waxing so theological. As many have noted on this forum for some time, the official publications have become dry and repetitive for years. Whatever these newest ravings are, the fact that they have occurred at all is really noteworthy.

There are 8 because that is the total number of males who (1) partake of the emblems, (2) have been in full time service for years, and (3) have proved themselves loyal yes men, that is, they wouldn't dare rock the boat.

I'm new here too. That sure WAS a fascinating experience. I was in a congo with some bros. who clearly had homosexual tendencies. As long as they kept them in check, they were in good standing. In two cases the homo bros. got married, really trying to become hetero, but they both couldn't handle marriage and wound up getting DFed after they went homo in conduct and couldn't handle the marital sexual due. So I suspect you are right that the official party line is that homosexual urges and desire are OK---just don't give in to them.
I can see a BOE really getting upset at a R&F bro. who would relate this party line in a talk to the congo. Of course, if s.o. in authority (like the CO) were to do so, that would be different! Most likely "loyal, mature" borg men would never do so however, b/c of the problems this would cause (like you experienced). There are probably other doctrinal/organizational matters like this too.
Anyway, thx for the experience.

while lurking here, i've seen that some regular contributors have good resources or ability to find things in the wt publications.. i've got a relative who sometimes listens when i point out problems with the borg's thinking, but i don't have the resources to find something that would help me when talking to her.
perhaps someone here can find it and help me out.

I've got a relative who sometimes listens when I point out problems with the borg's thinking, but I don't have the resources to find something that would help me when talking to her. Perhaps someone here can find it and help me out. Over the years while attending meetings I remember more than once the publications stating that prophecy is best understood after the supposed fullfilment. This, of course, indirectly subracts from the validity of trying to figure out prophecy ahead of time, what the borg so often has practiced. If it's not too much work, maybe someone could give me a few of those refs. from past literature with this statement so that I can share them with my somewhat still-in relative. She expressed doubts to me that the publications have never said that, but I know I read it repeatedly...

Been lurking here for years but finally decided to come out, at least partially. Of all things, the post of 'bats in the belfry' re: the supposed break up of GB member Geoffrey Jackson and his cute (ex-?) fianc ée a few days ago spurred me to do so. What struck me was the party line on engagements breaking up in the 75 WT. One line reads:
'Or, during that period, the man might participate in some serious wrongdoing, perhaps becoming drunk, engaging in some immorality or seriously dishonest act.'
Is it just me or did anyone else pick up on the 'seriously dishonest act'? This is an unintended admission to the fact that, in the borg's view, a dishonest act is not always dishonest. In their mind dishonesty has levels of seriousness, likely b/c they are so accustomed to lie and lie. Many of these lies are not only OK, but are officially sanctioned. An engagement can be broken only if such lying is serious. This is all quite an admission, isn't it? Of course, THEY would never admit this, but we know...
As for me I have to be careful. After years of faithful service and putting up with degrees of realization of TTAT, I quitely faded after gradually relinquishing my responsibilities. They still call on me, trying to activate me, but like so many others I cannot continue to brainlessly parrot the party line when I don't believe so much of it any more. Nor can I explain my true feelings to the high-powered bro. who has been assigned to call on me, one of the kindest elders I have met (he's soooo loyal). I'd rather not get DFed for that most serious of crimes, disagreeing with the GB. It's really rather remarkable that you could be an axe-murderer, a cannibal, or a child rapist but all those crimes pale in comparison with that wickedest of sins, apostasy, isn't it?
Anyway, I want to be careful so I don't get cut cut off from family and friends. I'm sure many here will understand. Maybe I'll post here some more from time to time.
