Sorry to hear that. It's hard when the relationship between parent and child is reversed.

Sorry, fulltimestudent, only the purple one is demonized.
Here, brush up on your teletubby history: the purple one is named Tinky Winky and he carries a purse. Therefore, he is gay. Therefore, he is demonized.
Next week we will discuss the larger history of homophobic names given to children's television characters and its impact on polite society.

Confused?
by nomorepain13 ini have been going to meetings since i was a child, long story short only recently i've started taking the truth seriously, i am not baptized but just an unbaptized publisher.
truth is i am so lonely in the congregation.
the other young people in the cong don't like me because they dont think i am going to "stay" for long, i've even worked on the ministry with an older brother and asked her am i giving the wrong impression to people?

I too was raised in the truth and met a really nice worldly guy who I knew I would really get along well with. I was so torn. It felt like a test.
Well, I chose the nice worldy guy and we have been married over 20 years now. We get along so great that I always kind of wonder what people are talking about when they say that marriage is hard work.
So, it was a test, a test of my ability to detect bull$*** and also to decide what it was that would really make me happy in life.

That is truly disgusting behavior. Maybe they held not making meetings or field service against the poor man. Who knows what goes on in their petty little minds.
You did a good thing. Good to know there are truly caring people in this world.

Do you think not having the book study in private homes has had much effect?
by truthseeker init's been a few years since the organization ended the book study arrangement in private homes.. gone was the last opportunity to have tea and biscuits and a natter with the friends afterwards.. do you think people regret losing the book study?
for some, it may have been the only time they were able to get some "associaton".

There were no other children at our bookstudy and we didn't have goodie nights, so it was not my favorite meeting.
Eventually the meeting moved to our house in a small room in our basement. My sister and I would entertain ourselves by tormenting the old ladies. A favorite was to use lots of furniture wax on the rickety old folding chairs so they were greasy and slippery.
Once we glued a penny to the floor in the unfinished basement entrance. We hid behind some bicycles and snickered to ourselves as each and every little old sister bent down to try to pick it up off the floor.
All of our friends were away at other, cooler bookstudy groups and we felt quite left out.

No toys allowed, though once I smuggled a Barbie in and settled her within the leafy branches of one of the fake trees on the platform. She wasn't discovered by anyone except some other children whom I let in on the joke earlier in the evening.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I was once disfellowshipped too after admitting it, being repentant and telling them of mental health issues. I hung around long enough to get reinstated and accept all the congratulatory handshakes, but I never went back after that night.
My brother and sister were also disfellowshipped, one for not meeting with the elders for a jc, but neither of them bothered with the reinstatement process. I only did it so my mother wouldn't feel like she had to shun me, but she speaks to all of us and treats us the same even though she and my dad are pioneers.

Was There Anything A JW Said That Made You Raise Your Eyebrows?
by minimus inwe had an elderly pioneer/ms in our hall and he used to like to rattle the elders.
he liked using the "n" word in his comments.
he one time started to comment about the "ni##er pool" that he would observe among the poorer blacks.

Once, during our hall's quick build, an elder from our congregation told me that Witnesses don't belong to unions.
I told him that was funny because my father, also an elder, was a union member and had been for years!
Then, silence.

International Conventions for 2014 - Landover, MD - What is an International Convention?
by insearchoftruth inhave been out of touch for a while, i see that there is an 'international' convention this year in landover, md (fed ex field) and there are no english conventions in either richmond or hampton, va. what is an 'international convention', is it merely a consolidation of all the other conventions meant to whip up some fervor amongst the masses?.

They used to hold it at the Capital Center in Landover back in the 1980s. Indoors and airconditioned!
Then we got sent to Veteran's Stadium in Philadelphia. Outdoors and hot! It was quite the adjustment.

Yes, you must apply to go. My parents have done so. I laughed and asked my mother why you needed to apply, why not just go. She said they needed to make sure that there was enough room for everyone!
She also said that applications involved how many years of service and what privileges one holds are taken into account. So this seems to be a consolidation of the uberfaithful.
As far as just any old person attending, I don't know how they would stop them, but I'm sure they will have some gestapo tactics in place.
