  Never Forget 9/11

  tomorrow is the anniversary of 9/11/2001.

  i hope we never forget what happened that fateful day and learn from what happened.❤️.

  Last year's high school graduates were the first for whom 9/11 did not happen in their lifetime.

  Teaching this event will be forever different.

  i have many friends who live in or near portland.

  i've spent a lot of time in portland.

  I don't live in Portland, but I am from Baltimore which experienced riots and unrest after the Freddy Gray incident.

  What I can say is that there were quite a few blocks that were in chaos including looting and burning of buildings. It was not nice.

  However, cities are large and unrest in one neighborhood still leaves the large majority of the city unaffected including all the suburbs that still comprise the metro area.

  Again I've never been to Portland, but if it is a large city, a hundred protesters in a city of a million can leave the rest of the city mostly unaffected.

  What a cute pup. They know when you've rescued them and love you for it.

  Don't have an outboard ( well I do, but it doesn't run ) but I've got a Yamaha jet boat. Fun, but hard to maneuver at low speeds. Docking in a current is hard.

  Would like to move toward the pontoon boat department. Low and slow.

  Does Anybody Here Sympathize With The Looters That Cause Destruction?

  i realize some here are diehard democrats.

  whether you are democrat, republican or independent, do you support any of these looters that cause mayhem and destruction for their cause?

  i have heard some people sympathize with these law breakers saying they understand why they do what they do and leave it at that.. of course i wonder how they would feel if their own property was burnt or stolen or destroyed..

  Seriously, did you really expect people to support looters?

  They're criminals and should be prosecuted.

  Protesting is all good and fine, but a large group of people can turn into a mob. If you want to protest, I recommend the first 10 or 15 minutes and then get the hell out of there.

  Also, I know from experience in Baltimore a few years ago that large protests can attract bad faith actors from other places. These people undermine the protests and greatly irritate good faith actors.

  Also, as I've said before, there is no "the Media" anymore. Walter Cronkite is dead. There are multi channels and it is up to the reader to do the research. It's exhausting but such are the wonders of the information economy.

  as many of you know that my husband's mother had been fighting cancer.

  I'm so sorry for your loss, Tameria.

  This will be a hard thing to overlook. It's cruel because it was very public and it's not like you can print a retraction for an obituary.

  I sincerely hope they do not give the entire hour long JW funeral graveside. There are usually a limited number of chairs and you know who would "reserve" them for themselves.

  the ark encounter located in kentucky (opened in 2016) is a large representation of noah's ark based on the genesis flood narrative contained in the bible.

  it is 510 feet (155 m) long, 85 feet (26 m) wide, and 51 feet (16 m) high.. .

  genesis 6: 14 so make yourself an ark of cypress[c] wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out.

  Oh man, that could be repurposed as some prime retail property.

  I'm thinking maybe a dinner theater type thing like Medieval Times with the jousting tournament.

  Maybe a nautical theme like the Spanish Armada vs. the British Navy with audience participation!

  Then again, I don't know whether Kentucky could support the nautical theme. It's not on the coast.

  Flu Vaccine Now REQUIRED For All Students Going To School In Massachusetts

  this is a requirement now in massachusetts.

  children must get a flu shot by december 31. some allowances are made for religious reasons and health reasons.. personally, i don’t agree with the government making this mandatory.. what is your opinion?

  Tameria, my understanding was that there was only one version of the vaccine each year. ( per hemisphere )

  Unless that means that the shot in August is actually the one from the previous year. In that case, it would make no sense to require flu vaccines at the beginning of the school year.

  This problem could be easily worked around, of course by changing the deadline to later in the school year. Or by having the schools supply the vaccines themselves. Both school districts I have been involved with locally have offered free flu vaccines seasonally.

  In my experience, the uptake is about a third of parents who will sign off for their children to get the shot in school. Others, especially the ones with health insurance, will get theirs on their own.

  Yes, one life and the older you are the faster it seems to go by.

  It took me awhile to understand my husband's need to go at life full- tilt.

  When you are bipolar, you go from living fast and furious alternating with living slow and sluggish. Treatment for me is learning how to live life moderately and steadily.

  My husband has been tortured with a back that has been filled with metal and he hurts all the time.

  He hasn't been able to secure approval from his work man's comp adjuster for two months for a new type of injection in his back. Apparently trying to go between 2 different vertebrae this time requires an audit of his entire medical history and an act of God. ( which could be why it's taking so long! ) He has been working through severe pain.

  Today, while taking a day off for an inspiring visit to the DMV, he took his bike and did a 30 mile bike ride!

  It used to make me crazy because that seems a good way to hurt his back even worse. And sometimes he does hurt afterward.

  But, now I get it. Every time he rides he fears it will be his last. His vertebrae are slowly deteriorating. He could end up losing mobility and won't be able to cycle anymore. Ever.

  I worry about him accelerating that process with hard exercise.

  He worries that each ride will be his last. He needs to enjoy it while he can.

  There are no do overs, no cycling in the "new system." or another afterlife or even another reincarnated life.

  Just one chance, people. Make it count.

  The whole "it's like tacking in sailing, you make adjustments when needed," to explain their ever changing doctrines drives me crazy.

  Have they ever been sailing?

  Regardless any tacking that might be involved, you always end up at the same destination!

  Their doctrines change and they end up somewhere different all the time.

  The metaphor fails utterly.

  I was excited when they came out with the varicella/chicken pox vaccination just before my son went to school.

  I told him all about the pox all over my body, even in my nose and throat that itched so badly, but you couldn't scratch them in order to avoid scars. I have one scar on my forehead from a pox that was just crazy itchy.

  He asked if all the kids actually got a nasty disease like this and I told him, "Pretty much so. You'd have to stay out of school for a week or so, being low grade feverish, so itchy you can hardly stand it. Calamine lotion helped dry up the blisters but it's a very mild treatment. So your week at home was not even fun.

  He needed another shot and he never caught chicken pox, thank God !
