Some christmas spirit, WT style!
by bohm inwell, i know its a bit self-serving since i allready posted this in jwfacts thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/199939/1/watchtower-images-required, but i think its quite funny and things have been kind of serious around here for the past couple of weeks.. it seem to me that when jahs chanel have desided (im kidding, they has been told) the one and true god really hate christmas and will kill you in nasty ways if you go ahead and celebrate it, it provide a pretty compelling case for not celebrating christmas.
but the governing body can make an even stronger case than that: not only will jesus cry and clice you up if you celebrate christmas, you will also have a really bad time.

You can't say Thanksgiving or Mother's & Father's Day, because they already have BIBLICAL SUPPORT!! Thanksgiving from the Jewish Festival of Boothes, and Mother's & Father's Day from the very 10 Commandments themselves, which encourage one to "Honour thy father and thy mother."

Check out this advice given in the article about Pinatas in the *** Awake! g03 9/22 pp. 23-24 The Piñata-An Ancient Tradition *** article:
When considering whether to include a piñata at a social gathering, Christians should be sensitive to the consciences of others. (1 Corinthians 10:31-33) A main concern is, not what the practice meant hundreds of years ago, but how it is viewed today in your area. Understandably, opinions may vary from one place to another. Hence, it is wise to avoid turning such matters into big issues. The Bible says: "Let each one keep seeking, not his own advantage, but that of the other person."-1 Corinthians 10:24.
As a follow up a while later in the Awake! magazine, a Questions from Readers revisited the issue:
Check out this logic, straight from your own Awake! July 8th, 2004 QFR. The advice given on Pinatas clearly falls in harmony with the scriptural insight given in Colossians 2:16. "However, if it is very obvious that a custom has no current false religious significance and involves no violation of Bible principals, each Christian must make a personal decision as to whether he will follow such a custom."
Talk about speaking out of both sides of your mouth!!! So how many people dance around the Christmas tree today in honour of Saturnalia???? NO ONE DOES, and this is the point so well made by the above quoted Awake! articles. These are merely customs now that have no bearing in the here and now, and have been made GOOD. Sure, the Bible states to "keep away from the unclean things" but it also speaks of things being made good again, the taking back of days for God, etc.
The whole wedding anniversary being allowed is a prime example of this. The argument is used that this honours the marriage arrangement, all the while ignoring the fact that it elevates two people above and gives honour and praise to their marriage, much as a b-day does to an individual. Also, the very emblems of marriage (rings, gowns, etc, etc) ALL have their origins in pagan customs, yet I don't see JW's running screaming away from them.
Debator/Renai, consider your dumb ass SERVED. You're too stupid to speak, much less THINK. Try cracking a freakin dictionary instead of the Awake! or WT so often and you might actually learn something. Hypocrite!!!!

i really wasn't aware of this until now.. what should i do if i come across a person from canada?
is there a less offensive term than "canadian" that i can use?

And now, let us some Bible verses that the JW's absolutely HATE, and ones I never even really knew existing until after I grew up, because they weren't covered in WT articles, discussions, etc. How covenient!!!!
These scriptures support festivals, b-days, etc. Eat this, WatchTower apologists!!!
HOLIDAYS: Colossians 2:16 says, "Therefore do not let anyone judge you by food, drink, a religious festival, New Moon celebration or Sabbath day." Yet some do and accept money, use day and month names, rings etc that allegedly "have pagan origins" while denying children and adults the "joy" (Ga 5:22) of Christmas, birthdays etc.
THANKSGIVING: Began as the annual autumn harvest in Hebrew called "Festival of Booths" or "Festival of Ingathering" (of crops with thanks to Him) (Lev 23:33, Deu 16:13) now celebrated in numerous nations on many continents.
CHRISTMAS: Which is December 25th the date of the first Jewish festival of Hanukkah now varying because lunar based, so Roman Saturnalia may not be its only origin. Christ was at the Feast of Dedication, another name for Hanukkah. (Jn 10:22) Santa was based on an actual Christian (Saint Nicholas) famed for giving gifts in the Middle Ages. Also, there is a bible verse (I'm sorry I forget the exact verse) that states even the angels in heaven rejoiced and sang praises when Christ Jesus was born. So it's good enough for the angels to rejoice and sing about Jesus' birth, but not the JW's? WTF???
NEW YEARS: God began the Jewish New Year's celebration Rosh Hashanah at Lev 23. Without excess drinking it's biblically fine.
As can be plainly see from the above recorded history, some of the very "holidays" that JW's frown upon today were started by the very Jews that they so closely resemble. Pathetic!!!! The one about Thanksgiving really hit me hard. I just KNEW as a child that there was nothing wrong wtih Thanksgiving!!!

Yeah, I still use the term "New Order". It's pretty "Old School" and gives a heads up to the older, more experienced men in the congregations with positions that you didn't just fall off the turnip truck yesterday, that you've been around a while and probably were taught and studied with some aged persons from waaaaay back when. This is what happened with my parents in the 70's, they studied with some people that were JW's, but were probably in their 70's or even 80's by then, probably even Bible Students. They passed on to my father that 1914 had come about by Russell measuring the Great Pyramid of Giza. When I asked about 1914 as a small child in the 1980's, he passed on this information to me. He never realized that that caused a "red flag" moment for me, even at that young age. I never forgot how awkward or dumb that sounded, and when I started my online research it was the first thing I typed in. Dominos fell that day I can tell you!!!!

See, here's the thing many of us forget since we've been out for so long. Even IF you do as the above poster stated of making them look like the gigantic douchebag assholes that they are, they just feel that THEY have been persecuted and that they are merely "making a stand for Jehovah" and that in the time of the "End" you'll get yours and they'll be walking into Paradise while your flesh rots off and birds pick out your eyes!!!
