I did, I think it was my last meeting in a Kingdom Hall. Went because the guy was a friend and an all around good guy. It was a surreal experience. I was already being shunned by some since I had been publicly reproved and of course the elders tell their wives. But being there listening to all this crap knowing full well by now that it was all just a make believe lie. Listening to all this crap about he will be back in the resurrection and what a wonderful hope we have. Puke!! Couldn’t wait to get out of their .

Why the JW org should fail.
by Half banana indr margaret t singer, a professor of psychology at berkeley university california has studied the experiences of 700 cult members.
''consciously and manipulatively, leaders and their trainers exert a systematic social influence that can produce great behavioral changes,'' said dr. singer.. .
one of the ways the jw organisation exerts so much influence over its members is because it has created a culture sustained by constant propaganda, which polices itself according to how the leadership has moulded it.

I don’t think the cult will fail just adapt as it has done in the past. I was listening to an interview with a former westboro Baptist Church member. Even in more extreme cults like this members just stay in despite all the pressure and this cult gets way more pressure then the JWs. These cult members are not nearly as isolated as JWs are because they want to see and hear what everyone else is saying so they can respond. Yet even with all this exposure to the out side world they still stay.
The members that do leave are said to be evil or mislead by Satan loosing all credibility with the other members. So if an extreme cult allowed to be exposed to way more info the the JWs is still surviving then the JWs will survive to.
The only good thing to take out of this is in extreme cults it usually just the kids that are raised in it stay members.

George Lucas tinkering with Star Wars films
by LoveUniHateExams injust thought i'd start a thread about lucas revisiting star wars films and making new edits - for better or for worse.. first off, let me say that george lucas has a tremendous imagination and star wars (1977), also known as episode 4: a new hope, and the empire strikes back (1980) - episode 5 in the franchise - are two of my favourite films.
.
as progress has been made in special effects, including the development of cgi, it makes sense for lucas to go back and retouch the spaceships, laser blasts and light sabres, improving what was 70s and 80s effects.. but i feel that lucas' tinkering has been a mixed bag - some have been bad choices, some unnecessary and others have been good.. what do you think ... .

There was a lot of licensed books written in the 80 s and probably the 90s that were considered very good. Why Disney couldn’t go to one of these for ideas and a plot is beyond me. Their idiots about to kill a huge franchise if they didn’t already do it with this latest movie.

Friday crucifixion?
by rstrats init is my understanding that jws believe that the crucifixion occurred on friday.
however, luke 24:21 would seem to indicate that it couldn't have occurred any later than thursday.
how do you explain the seeming discrepancy?

Yeah if he wasn’t in the earth 3 days then he would be fulfilling the role of a dying and rising god like Inanna, Osiris and others.

I am getting disfellowshipped
by CitizenofEarth inmaybe some of you remember me, maybe not.
for general information i am now 19 years old, and living by myself.
for the past 1 year (more like 1.5 years) i have been quietly fading out of the hypocrisy of this organization, but since i still live in the town i grew up in it has been hard, and filled with different challenges.

Unless you want to blast them with some scriptures showing where they are wrong not only with you but your friend getting dfd for kissing a girl then what’s the point of going? I would just not go.

Brotherly love in action..
by Jrjw ini'm so upset and angry at the same time.
i move in less than 2 weeks and was supposed to be getting help off "brothers" to move and one of them was driving the van and now the elders have had a meeting and told the brothers they can't help coz i'm separated from my (abusive) jw husband and with moving it puts the chances of reconciliation (of which there was zero chance) even further away.
where are these stupid rules that they come up with.

I remember reading how they were thinking of using a scripture in Revelations I believe and tie this with Sputnik the first satellite. Then they could move jesus kingdom rule from 1914 to the year Sputnik went up. Any crazy thing they think of the JWs will buy it.

They have nowhere else to go!
by Crazyguy ini think the overwhelming problem with trying to wake up friends and family is they have nowhere else to go.
i mean these people all their friends are jws a lot of them their family is jws.
if they wake up or agree with you in anyway they know instantly that they loose all this, many will even loose jobs.

I think there is a lot of mentally out JWs that go to meeting and service but are really just going through the motions knowing they have no other options.
Proof of this maybe one of the last meetings I went to. I was returning to my seat during a watchtower study and got a good look at how many people didn’t have their watchtowers marked it was almost every one of them. could be only about 10% are truly believers and the rest are in some way not awake but just indifferent knowing they have no other options?
