Hey man, welcome. Stick around - it's helpful. You of course are right, no one should tell your flesh and blood how to treat you. It's a ploy and it's evil.

Can You Picture Jesus Christ Being a Jehovah's Witness???
by minimus inthink about that for a moment....... if jesus was a jw(as jws claim), how would he have handled various situations??
for example, if peter denied him 3 times, what would've been different?
or if the disciples fell asleep the night before he was to die, how would a jesus christ jehovah's witness have handled it?.......you get the idea.

Of course - I can picture him flipping over tables, making whip of ropes and condemning the leaders as hypocrites and white washed graves. Then I can picture him getting disfellowshipped late at night with illegal procedures. And then three days later him getting reinstated when they realize they disfellowshipped the Son of Man.

How Many Hours Do You Work?
by Englishman injust curious.. todays "times" says that americans do most things one hour before the brits do.. americans, it says, start work at 8am, brits rarely before 9 am.
american lunch is at 12 noon, the uk is 1pm.
american dinner is at 6pm, uk eats around 7.. but how many hours do you need to actually work?.

I just finished Crisis of Conscience...
by Badger inthanks to ray franz for writing it.
parts of the book have been talked about on the board before, but holy $#!+...seeing page upon page of evidence kept my jaw in a constant drop.... a few thoughts.... >franz seems to have little malice for the org, and it shows in the book.. >i looked at it with a very skeptical eye (as i do everything) and tried to see it from the perspective of a witness who sincerely believed.
i was still floored by the callousness of the comments of these people.. > control really does seem to be the watchword for these folks, and they've trained the rank and file well.

Badg - you might really enjoy In Search of Christian Freedom - which is a terrificly freeing book. The only thing I wished differenct about CoC was that Ray would over and over say "...over a personal conversation about the bible and beliefs" and didn't elaborate about those conversations with specific individuals. But of course I'm eternally grateful to Ray for having the courage.

"Crisis of Conscience" text available on the Internet?
by AlmostAtheist ini'm not cheap, i'm not trying to scam ray's estate out of $15, i just want to download the book to my palm so i can read it when i get a chance.
i'd grab it from the library, but it's not the sort of coffee-table book i need lying around the house at this point in my life!.
thanks for any links!

Hey I know the feeling as I had to sneak around to read Ray's book. I think everyone appreciates the situation you are in and also not wanting to steal money from Ray either.
How about buying the book and hiding it at the library? You could put it next to "The Canterbury Tales" or anything else by Chaucer and it will be perfectly safe.

JWBot - I am quite interested that MM said that to your sister. Of course he is dead on. Once "the word" on something like this is out it may change everyone's attitude toward you. Your sister my end up looking "over-righteous".
