They'd often hang near a local Wendy's and at times I'd give them a bit of coinage when I had some, or a buck. I used to think 'geez, they'll just spend it on ciggies or booz anyway' but I try not to look at it that way now. If I'm going to give them something, then it should be theirs to do with it as they wish.

Beggers
by Xena in.
every day either on the way to work or coming home i pass people with signs begging on the side of the road.
i'm curious if anyone here gives them money....i have from time to time, i tend to give more to women then men...i suppose i identify more with them...a kind of "under different circumstances that could be me" feeling i get... .

Well, it can take you 8 years to get back to them, using their own time frame.
There ya go! Good one, bebu.
Yeah, I'd stay off the ol radar screen, just as garybuss mentioned.

Ozzie's Weekend Poll #85 and a half wit
by LittleToe insince ozzie has had an accident, this weekend (http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/68324/1.ashx), i thought it'd be nice to throw in an interrum poll on his behalf.
so; regarding the polls that frequent our dear forum (coz simon only thinks he owns it ozzie style "multiple choice" pollsminimus style "fluffy question" pollsjcanon style "do you believe i'm the messiah", type pollsother polls (please specify).. regarding the liquid refreshments, offered on ozzie's polls, do you prefer: a nice cuppa teaa healthy sized glass of shiraza beerother (please specify).
and finally; how much do you enjoy ozzie's polls: couldn't get through the weekend without themlove themthey're okmediocre, at besthate thembetter than a frontal lobotomy with a chainsawbetter than a sunday morning at the wt studyother (but evidently far worse, hence, please don't specify!!!).

I like multi-choice because I don't have to think as hard.
I like Pepsi as my beverage.
I enjoy Ozz-polls; my choice in section three would fall somewhere between 'they're okay' and 'I love them'
I must ask though in regard to both Ozz-type queries and MIni-type queries.....How do they come up with all those questions? Pretty amazing.

Benny Hill was hilarious at times - and he had a keen eye for the ladies.

I'd actually probably take Bobby Hull off my starting team and put Gordie Howe on instead.
One thing that kind of surprises me is that there seem to be few people who consider any of the players from the great Islanders teams of the early 80s to be among the all-time greats. And while they had some fine individual players (Bossy, Nystrom, Trottier, Billy Smith), I too tend to leave them off any list of all-time greats.
I also overlooked some great Canadiens players (though Patrick Roy did win a Cup as a Canadien in '86), but one could easily place Ken Dryden or Guy LeFluer or Larry Robinson on such a squad.

Are JW's embarrassed about being JW's?
by Elsewhere ingrowing up one of my greatest embarrassments was that i was a jw.
i hated it when others found out or i had to do some kind of "jw" thing like not stand for the national anthem.
do you know any jws like this?

The name Jehovah's Witnesses certainly carries not only a negative conotation but also sucks as a name for a religion. As some have implied by their experiences, it's an easy name to make fun of. I've been called a 'Hober, 'Hovah, JDub, etc etc. The name is also too much of a mouthful. The name Kingdom Hall is also sucky.
>As far as embarrasment at being a jw, I always found interesting some statements in the publications themselves, statements which would attempt to assure the reader (and prospective convert) that jws are just "normal people". I found it curious that jws and the WTS were frequently engaged in assuring others that they were not lunatics.

We had a frig and microwave in the basement of our Hall, but not a full-fledged kitchen. Pioneer school was held there and a temporary 'kitchen' was set up.
At times during meetings I'd go to the basement and check the fridge for sodas or something to consume - I'd have done almost anything to save me from the total boredom of the meeting. I'd often drive to the nearest Wendy's during the meeting to alleviate the overpowering boredom.

letter to family
by kat2u in.
i am in the process of writing a letter to my mother.i have been told by family members that she knows im going to come back into the fold.and has thus decided that untill i do she will not be in the same place as i am again.this also includes mt parents 50th wedding anniversary in june.my father wants me there is has never been a jw.but mom has decided that if i attend then she cannot.this all added to the fact that she is in continual contact with my eldest daughter to "keep consistent" in their treatment of me.i am angry and intend to explain to her the fact that i will never be a jw again and to explain to her why.. i have seen many wonderful letters others have posted to family members.im just looking for anyone who has any ideas or thoughts that i might be able to use in my letter..
thankyou!!!!

I wish I had some suggestions. Even though I can't seem to come up with any, you do have my sympathy kat. The emotional blackmail that jws attempt goes beyond the ridiculous.
