Checked it out, thanks.
I noticed that jws are mentioned, in particular ex-jws who are gay or lesbian, since she plans on a book about them too.
just discovered that a new cult book by a local professor in my hometown has been released.
it's called "bounded choice".
looks interesting.

i've was df'd over 6 years ago after spending all of my life a jw.
i remember thinking i could never step foot in a church out of guilt or fear.
however, i am feeling a loss of some kind of christian fellowship....i think i read a few other posts regarding this need for some of you.. i knew i would not go back to a kh, either.
I was not prepared for the upbeat music and sermons! We actually stood and clapped....and sang along.
What a difference from the recorded Kingdom Melodies at the KH. They drained the life out of any spontaneous response. At times, the Hall seemed positively dead when it came time to sing songs.
evidently, according to my mother, her friend has all sorts of perfume allergies and has been attending meetings in the ladies room with a door open so as to hear the vital spiritual information.
anyway, the elders told her she could no longer sit in the stall.
now she's depressed and doesn't know what to do.
In all the congregations in this area, there are phone hookup capabilities for anywhere from 2 to 6 people depending on the intelliegence of the elder body as to how phones work
Since it depends on elders' intelligence (an oxymoron for sure) I'd wager closer to the 2 than the 6.
two elders approached me yesterday afternoon while i was doing a bit of work on my car.
unsuccessful at reaching me in my home (mostly because i don't answer the doorbell when they come) they saw me outside and decided to stop to talk.
the conversation did not go especially well.
Interesting take on things Karen....They might think (like I once did) that leaving off all the jw activities would create a huge void in their schedule. What they don't realize is that natural everyday things soon fill in for the time spent running to meetings, etc. Things like getting some work done on my home, reading for pleasure, exercise, more time for family, and just plain "down" time filled the void in my case. Life seems so much less hectic now (because it is) and I enjoy life much more because I have time to step back and appreciate it, instead of always trying to "do more".
are you happy about who you are?

just curious to see how many people have online jounals be it live journals or dead journals or a blog?
Here's President Bush's Blog
are you one of those sleepers where the slightest noise will wake you up?
or could you sleep through an earthquake?
do you sleep on your back?
Never on my stomach. Hardly ever on my back. I roll from side to side as the night progresses.
I will sleep naked at times during the summer. You may not want to visualize that.

chance, natural selection and god .
the first replicator had to originate by chance, since there was and is no natural selection present to work on a non-replicator.
dna is much too complicated to originate by chance.
In my time here I've seen a quite a few well-thought-out threads get little or no response, while fluffernutters get 3 or 4 pages worth of replies.
the account of adam and eve as a literal event is so full of logical contradictions that it is mind-boggling.
it only takes a minimum of scrutiny to discover that fact, too.. there is something god did not want adam and eve to know.
he didnt want them to know the difference between good and evil.
Kind of neat to see some of these Oldies But Goodies resurfacing.
Another note on the Adam and Eve story - for me, it's always felt too "neat". For example, it would have been a much more interesting and challenging story had sin not come into the human family until after Adam and Eve had some kids. Then you'd have some perfect and some imperfect humans around.
Also, how long did God expect humans to avoid eating of this tree? Even if Adam and Eve would have avoided it, could all their children, then their children, etc, etc, avoid eating of it? You'd think that if it were around for any length of time, somebody would eventually take a bite. And with Satan in circulation at the time, there's no way I can imagine A&E's descendants not taking a bite.
So God's "Purpose" to have a race of perfect humans filling the earth seems to me to have been doomed from the start, especially as long a Satan was around and tree-tests were in vogue.
