I can picture John Stossel saying: 'A religion that tells its members that they can't join the YMCA, that tells them they cannot vote, that tells them they cannot get involved in the political process, tells them they can't carry a 25 cent political party card - which resulted in trauma and death to many members in Malawi, and yet becomes part of the UN as an NGO?......Give Me A Break!'

I would love to see a 20/20 on the UN
by Crooked Lumpy Vessel ini was re-reading some of the old posts in the best of.... i was thinking....wouldnt it be great for this topic to appear on prime time.
i really dont think many members are aware of this issue even to this day.
i would like to see interviews with officials at the un and the wts.

Two Elders Stopped By
by rocketman intwo elders approached me yesterday afternoon while i was doing a bit of work on my car.
unsuccessful at reaching me in my home (mostly because i don't answer the doorbell when they come) they saw me outside and decided to stop to talk.
the conversation did not go especially well.

At least that's what I was told when I was discouraged from helping a householder move some furniture. I was laughed at. The elder thought I was just trying to get out of doing hard core door to door.
Yes, you were trying to be a real Christian, and they frowned upon it.

I finally went to CHURCH----and didn't feel guilty!
by findingme ini've was df'd over 6 years ago after spending all of my life a jw.
i remember thinking i could never step foot in a church out of guilt or fear.
however, i am feeling a loss of some kind of christian fellowship....i think i read a few other posts regarding this need for some of you.. i knew i would not go back to a kh, either.

I was not prepared for the upbeat music and sermons! We actually stood and clapped....and sang along.
What a difference from the recorded Kingdom Melodies at the KH. They drained the life out of any spontaneous response. At times, the Hall seemed positively dead when it came time to sing songs.

Elders Won't Let Elderly Sister Stay In The Bathroom
by minimus inevidently, according to my mother, her friend has all sorts of perfume allergies and has been attending meetings in the ladies room with a door open so as to hear the vital spiritual information.
anyway, the elders told her she could no longer sit in the stall.
now she's depressed and doesn't know what to do.

In all the congregations in this area, there are phone hookup capabilities for anywhere from 2 to 6 people depending on the intelliegence of the elder body as to how phones work
Since it depends on elders' intelligence (an oxymoron for sure) I'd wager closer to the 2 than the 6.

Interesting take on things Karen....They might think (like I once did) that leaving off all the jw activities would create a huge void in their schedule. What they don't realize is that natural everyday things soon fill in for the time spent running to meetings, etc. Things like getting some work done on my home, reading for pleasure, exercise, more time for family, and just plain "down" time filled the void in my case. Life seems so much less hectic now (because it is) and I enjoy life much more because I have time to step back and appreciate it, instead of always trying to "do more".

Never on my stomach. Hardly ever on my back. I roll from side to side as the night progresses.
I will sleep naked at times during the summer. You may not want to visualize that.
