Living a lie?

i've been inactive for several months.

i know it's not the truth and mentally i've walked away.

would it be living a lie to remain inactive?

Victorian, I have been wondering the same thing lately, and though I am not yet technically inactive (I stopped reporting time after Nov '02), I have thought about DAing. In some ways, it would achieve my objective of not being bothered any more by elders and other jws, but on the other hand, I do have family in the .org, and why make things hard in that respect?

Bittersweet, I would guess your situation is a pleasant exception, because normally, the shunning starts when we miss meetings for a while.

i hope that saddam uses his hidden wmd's.

i hope even more that they're used ineffectively and no one gets hurt, contaminated, or killed.

but i try and imagine this guy facing the loss of it all, his own country and life included, why wouldn't he make the biggest mess he can before departure?

The better thing would be for the WMD to simply be found. Finding them would prove the same point - that Iraq possessed the stuff in violation of UN resolutions. I'd hate to see the stuff actually used.

it's been 7 years since our divorce was final and every now and then my ex-wife will call and tell what she's up to and how she's doing ect.

( it's usually a tale of whoa ) anyway i find it kind of hilarious.

Well, I don't have the problem, since I am still married and have been for a long time. But, it could be that perhaps Joe Wonderful was not as great as he first seemed. Or, she may still need to keep in touch out of some other need, maybe just to keep you in her life to some extent. It is good to hear that your situation does not seem to be one filled with the rancor so common between former spouses.

Why do JW's get so pissed off w/ anyone who disagrees w/ them?

i have read so many posts on this and other sites by jw's & their defenders(silentlambs.org for one) where so much hate & vitriol is directed at those who are'nt doing a damn thing except disagreeing /questioning their policies.

when they are supposedly taught all this love & junk, why are they so hateful?

Several excellent replies, and I can only concur. The jw religion becomes the center of the jw's life, they devote so much time and energy to it, therefore the thought that it could be wrong strikes them with fear, and they lash out.

if it was not them there would be something else that 'filled their need' and would have ensnared them.

Many people have been victimized by this religion, so why should they blame themselves? Since when do we ask victims of anything to blame themselves?

i have just reading a great book by sylvia brown, the other side and back, and i found a very interesting quote i wanted to share with all of you.the quote best describes the jehovahs witnesses and the abuse i suffered.. sylvia brown says.

"cults and abusive relationships have a lot in common.

they thrive in isolation and secrecy, which promote control and dependency and systematically eliminate alternative places for the cult member/abused to turn.

Elder came...grasped at straws...and left. UPDATE!

well i had a very interesting conversation on friday night.

sorry to be so long letting you know what happened.. only one elder turned up and i was wrong in my original thought that my mum had given him my report, it seems he was coming to ask me to study, therefore he was totally unprepared for what was about to happen to him.

but, i have to say, that he was the most honest elder i have spoke to and i'm sure you will be surprised by some of the things he said.. he started off wanting to know what made me stop going to the meetings and i related to him my experiences of a certain body of elders that had, to say the least, made me realise that they thought that they were a law unto themselves (including stealing, lying and generally being un-christian).

Very interesting conversation you had with that elder, though you should be counting your lucky stars that he came alone. Often times, elders will be a bit more open when alone. I wonder how much he would have said had another elder been there.

You made some very good points, including the one about a different "understanding" being taken from the same commentaries that were very old with regard to the Generation thing in '95. Amazing how they can use the same quotes but now arrive at a new understanding and claim support form those same sources.
