  Indiana "Religious Freedom" (right to discriminate)

  sickening to see the photo of the religious zealots all stood around the governor signing into law the right for people to discriminate against others (gay, lesbian, trans-gender) based purely on religious dogma.. if religious people want those freedoms then the can't have it both ways - they cannot complain if *they* are discriminated against.. "sorry, we don't like zionists, get out".

  "oh, it's some special mass and you can't work your shift?

  you're fired!"..

  One small, but very vocal sector of society is causing all this ruckus. It is one thing to to ensure equal treatment of people, but to elevate one segment of society to an untouchable class is totally agregious.

  If a muslim bakery refused to cater a wedding of another muslim to an "infidel" do you think they would be sued? doubt it!

  If a JW baker refused to cater a gay wedding would they be sued? doubt it!

  The only people who are sued are born again bible believing christians.

  The issue at stake in the cake bakery is not the fact that they refused to serve gays, it is they refused to participate in a service that goes against their moral conscience. There are some businesses (fewer nowadays) that aren't willing to sacrifice their convictions for a quick buck, and this baker was one of them.

  What did you become after leaving Jehovah's Witnesses?

  hey guys,.

  so, since my leaving i have been doing so much research on so many topics that it's been extremely enlightening.

  not only have i learned a lot about the organization and what motivates it, but i have also learned a lot about the bible, god and most importantly, myself.. currently, i'm not quite sure where i stand, but i'm having some real issues with the bible and god.

  While this is bad that it happened, it is definitely not a Watchtower sanctioned practice. Sounds more like an overzealous mother trying to play matchmaker with her daughter. For every one of these instances, there are probably 100 watchtower articles discouraging marriage. The WT is more likely to prohibit marriage then force it.

  Looking for others that maybe gay or questioning

  so i am the weird case that i still believe in the jehovah's organization.

  there are a couple of things that stop me from going.

  is there anyone else out there that still believes?

  So let me get this straight---You still believe in pretty much everything the organization teaches. You are Ok with forbidding people to celebrate Christmas, foregoing a college education, isolating children during their childhood, prohibiting blood transfusions, prohibiting birthdays, prohibiting voting, etc etc etc. none of these things the bible specifically prohibits.

  Yet the one thing spelled out in black and white in the bible that it actually does prohibit, homosexuality--you are OK with that, and even use similiar reasoning techniques that the watchtower uses in the above instances to come to your conclusion?

  Of all the the things you would have reason to go against the organization for, the only one you choose to disagree with them on is the only thing the bible specifically condemns. I am so thankful I am out of that cult, Thank God!

  I would love to have you try to witness to me at one of those trolley carts!

  ever since mitt romney turned the spotlight on the lds church a growing tsunami of disaffection has been accelerated and brought to a head.. the lds core faithful members are leaving in increasing numbers such that growth has not simply stagnated in the west but it has actively reversed.

  to their credit the church is responding aggressively but not only is it too late, it is an impossible task.

  you can only paint sh*t so many ways.

  I have met several Ex-Mormons who are devoted to exposing that religion, and from what they tell me, the Mormons aren't nearly as bad as the JW's when it comes to shunning, dishonest recruiting practices, etc etc. About the only negative thing I could come up with is they can't drink coffee or soft drinks. They do have a whacky doctrine, but given a choice, if I could go back and pick my childhood religion, I would choose Mormon any day!

  yes, you heard right.. as you know, most christian organizations publish and distribute little tracts with their gospel message.

  well they also make some that expose the lies of the wt, and explain how it is a cult.

  even if people are not interested in the "gospel message" in these tracts, the tracts do a good job exposing the wt as a cult.. now, those of you who are now agnostic or athiests or just non-religious, please keep reading, to understand what i plan to do.... i am expecting to receive $$ for christmas.

  Hey Snakeface, I wholeheartedly support your efforts, and if I had some extra money right now, I would send it to you to help out. Keep up the good work! I wish there had been more people around like you when I was growing up, and I could have learned TTAT much earlier and worked to correct those lies in my life. Good Job!

  What laws are on your side (in the U.S.) so you can leave quietly

  in another topic "just quit quietly - the law is on your side" there was a lot of discussion about how to leave quietly without getting tagged publicly as "no longer a jw".

  here are some legal cases that could be used to show support for leaving quietly.. you have to first send a letter saying you're leaving that specific congregation, and that you don't want them to keep records of you.. if the boe says anything against you here are some court cases that make precedent for bringing a suit against them:.

  baugh v. thomas (1970).

  Can someone ask to be removed from a particular congregation without actually disassociating from the whole organization? If someone can find a way to do this, then perhaps they can find a loophole to leave without actually getting tagged as such, thereby there would be no institutionally enforced shunning by the family.

  life after the wtbts

  you can't move forward to a new, more interesting, possibly much happier life, if you're still looking behind at the former life.. there is so much obsession on here about what the wtbts is doing, and discussing all the forms of injustice and bullshit in the wtbts, or how to bring down the wtbts.

  yes, their doctrines are crazy and they are a cult and cruel to boot.

  The simple answer is helping others by exposing the lies, it takes dedicated people to do this. One can leave this Cult and move on with their lives and try to forget all about it, or they can help others escape it. I am thankful there were those people who took the time to expose this religion, every little post, every little thing helps in one way or another.

  I went to a convention this year (incognito), just checking things out and seeing the layout of the facility for future pickets, and what amazed me is all of the single women that kept trying to talk to me. I don't ever remember this growing up, because as i said earlier they were always aloof, and even if they were interested, it was like they had to pretend they weren't. Everywhere I wandered around that facility, some single JW woman kept trying to strike up conversations with me, most were decent looking, a few were a little older than me, but they were very classy types, women I would talk to in real life, if they weren't JW. I told my brother this was just the Devil trying to work on me, he laughed, but agreed.
