Rex, what kind of "intelligence" is it, do you think, that is offended at the little things I say, but not offended by the vengeful and cruel slaughter and mayhem of the killing-deity found within the pages of the Bible?

i was watching naomi judd's morning program, and she recited a quote and attributed it to c.s.

"god is the love that loves all loving"

by telling us that we shall be destroyed at armageddon, and that we live a life that god doesn't approve of, the jw's are trying to make us believe that we are at odds with god.. were they successful?
Why would anyone need to be at peace with a moronic fantasy?
Certainly the true source and sustenance of this infinitely wondrous universe has to be a zillion light-years more substantial than the war god and his boy presented in the Bible. The sooner we let go of and stop fretting over little deities and mental idols, the better.

being around comparative religions for almost 50 years i've seen many religions come and go.
of course a cult is basically when people get together and follow what ever it may be.
now when we come to religions...anything can go...why?
Christians define a cult primarily as a group whose doctrine departs from biblical teaching and historic Christianity
In other words Christians label anything a "cult" which deviates from the original cult. Must be quite the problem considering there are somewhere in the range of 20,000 to 30,000 Christian denominations world-wide which must have deviated somehow, to some degree. Even the earliest Christians were a confused and varied lot.
I see a cult as any teaching or dogma which cuts it's followers off from the reality of the here and now. In place of REALITY a cult generally places attention and focus on some make-believe characters in some other place and time. In other words a cult puts emphasis on fatuous fantasies of the carnal mind, which Christianity does in spades.
People entombed in cults generally don't recognize their insane separation from reality.

i stumbled on this site dong some research, i post now only for those you have not sinned against jehovah's holy spirit, since only jehovah knows this, some value might be taken form this.
i currently serve as the service overseer in my congregation, i have been an elder for over 10 years.. the fundmental issue that challanges every jw faith at some point are the imperfections of the wtbs, & those that take the lead sometimes make huge errors.
as a third generation jw with a huge network of elders, i have heard many bad things about those that take the lead.. some of these have effected myself and my family, this is the test, no different than what job faced, but it is more on the emotional and mental level.
WELCOME, to the forum, tbt. You have a gentle way about you which is nice to see. I hope you stick around and share more of that with us.

all the ads for da vinci code and opus dei whatever got me thinking about the whole jesus-mary thing, and what genes jesus had.
how was mary impregnated anyhow?
the wt teaches that the big j turned jesus (or michael??
Sorry to say but this whole Jesus story is so nonsensical to me
Actually, it may be more fitting to be "sorry" for seeing the story as non-nonsensical.
The foundational idea of a god-deity is crude and menial. Is it surprising that what springs forth from that seems foolish? I mean a god person separate from us, is simply a character forged from the scrap-mental of the mind. What is real and significant must be closer than that and very much present and alive.....or what good is it?

hi guys, im new here and im christian (though trying to read the bible for what it is instead of looking to preacher all the time.
) anyway, i have a dilemma.
im 26 right now.
lol@6
those who have known me for any length of time through these forums know that my mom is, at best, unique, and at worse, totally freaking nuts.
i went to see her yesterday, specifically.
i didn't want to, i am honest enough to admit that.
Essie, besides being such a dear, you write very well. I enjoyed your post, as painful as it was. Does that make me a masochist?
All I can say is: is the silent awareness which sees all the family drama unfold, is THAT suffering? And if you can come to clearly realize this purity within and as your truest self, then certainly that must be present within your crazy dear mother as well.....yes?
Have a happy freaking Mothers Day!

"...and will kill you if you don't believe it".
The second part of the sentence doesn't get quoted all that much.

Welcome, cloud.
Interesting to see in this thread Christians offering up more guilt to heal guilt; I guess that's the nature of the crazy beast.
Your problem is twofold, cloud.
1. You have yet to acquire the ability to be present, here, in this moment, that you can clearly see your past is but a story in the mind that is insane to dwell in and upon.
2. You have reduced the Source of the universe down to a little deity that has nothing better to do than sit and judge you, and is such a little prick that he is ready and willing to condemn you for your humanness. Again, if you were present enough to witness these silly beliefs, you would see they are as insane as living in the past.
STOP JUDGING YOURSELF!!!!! Be present and alive with the vibrant expression of the universe here and now!!! Get out of your mind and into LIFE!

the mentality of some jws which keeps them in the org is one of hedging their position and not one of love for the org or anyone else for that matter.
basically they rationalise their situation by saying, "if i'm right, then i get everlasting life.
if i'm wrong what's the problem?
"Religion as practiced today deals in punishments and rewards. In other words, it breeds fear and greed -- the two things most destructive of spirituality."
