I'm happy that you are content and do not have bitter feelings toward the JW's. I do believe that most on this forum experienced different degrees of treatment at the hands of Elders and others, so it's safe to say they're not going to be as unbiased as you. Also the Witnesses are the ones that set the bar on good and evil, false prophecy is considered evil according to the bible and a sign of the times. Their false prophecies and "new light" changed the lifes of many and not in a good way. I agree that my childhood wasn't ruined by being a witness, I'm actually glad that we had that structure. We all managed to stay out of trouble. I think my saving grace was that my dad wasn't a Witness so we had a balance, my mom wasn't horribly strict or judgemental but a sincere young mom trying to raise 5 children in a strict religion as best she could. I knew ridiculously strict Witnesses where the kids were Stepford Children, many didn't remain witnesses or led double lifes. Some weren't allowed to hang out with us because we were like half breed witnesses with having an unbelieving father. My mom managed to have 4 out of 5 that remained Witnesses, me being the one that didn't. Good luck with your education and your life.

Why I am leaving JWD
by logansrun ini'm leaving this forum...at least temporarily.
as i mentioned in conversation over dinner at the chicago apostafest, my upcoming school schedule (which begins next week) combined with my workload will make it very difficult to be an active member on this forum.
perhaps i'll check in occassionaly when life is a little slower but for now i'd better distance myself from the on-line scene or else the other elements in my life will suffer.

I got a call this morning from my son's ex-girlfriend. She and I are still friends and I have filled her in on the JW's believes and all the BS they call the truth. She is fairly young, 23 and very meek and mild. I'm sure they thought they had a vulnerable easily manipulated young mom starving for company as she lives in the middle of nowhere in South Carolina. She shocked them with what she knew. She started the conversation with to me with "you wouldn't believe what happen to me this morning" She always has some kind of bad luck (unforeseen occurance) happening in her life such as her house burning down etc. so I said "let me guess you totaled your car?" she said "no worse than that" I said "what could be worse than that" and she said "I spent 2 hours talking to Jehovah's Witnesses" I said "oh my that is worse" Anyway she argued with them about blood issues, birthday issues and the changing of their stand on so many things. She also remembered that I told her that years ago they didn't allow immunization shots and later changed their position on that. The witness ladies said that it wasn't true and that she was listening to the wrong people. She also mentioned the molestation cover ups and the ladies told her that the law would deal with the molesters. My son's ex girlfriend said "you people disfellowship people that go to the law with molestation stories" The witness ladies had the nerve to say "if they were true christians they would know to go to the law in a case like that" This girl is very sensitive to molestation because she was severely molested and raped at 7 years old by her uncle over a period of time, as was her sister and brother. These people denied the new light on birthday's, blood, and immunizations and I was hoping someone could give me dates and articles that came out on these subjects. These woman are returning to talk to her and she wants to be armed with information. Thank you for any info you can provide.

I was just going to sit back and read this thread, but your comments about how wonderful the elders are provoked me to post. Odds are in any large group of people such as Witness or any other religion for that matter, there are going to be good people and bad people. Many of them are sincere in what they are doing just as many are in other religions. However Witnesses proclaim to be the one and only true religion and "you will know them by their works" where is the seperation? When I was married to my former pioneer ex-husband who beat me, verbally abused me and controlled how many squares of toilet paper I used when I went to the bathroom because "I'm your husband and you must obey me". When I got beat for starting a fire in our woodstove that went out, the Elder I talked to showed me how to make a fire so it wouldn't happen again. Never once did the Elders talk to my abusive husband but they read me scriptures on how to be a submissive wife.
When I finally left him they pressured me to go back so I wouldn't get myself in trouble being that I was a young attractive 25 year old with two children. When I purposely committed adultry after being apart from my husband for 3 years in order to be free of him, I was disfellowshipped. Ironically the most insensitive Elder on the committee who was urging the other Elders to disfellowship me was later caught molesting the teenage boys in the congregation. Yeah those Elders just make me feel warm and fuzzy all over. Don't tell me I just had a bad congregation I could relay story after story similar to mine and worse, just keep reading this board.
Elders are so charitible that you can't even have a funeral in the Kingdom Hall if you've been inactive, can you honestly say Christ would treat people this way? The majority are the most self righteous, judgemental people in existance. They are raised to be that way. They hear their parents from a very early age judging "worldly people" and other Witnesses that aren't quite spiritual enough. I don't miss the judgemental eyes looking me up and down at all the meetings.
Don't fool yourself into thinking that the perverts in the congregation are dealt with accordingly. There is a lawsuit going on right now in my area that has been in the newspapers where some young men 25 years old are suing the congregation for allowing a molester to stay in the congregation after he was reported to the elders. They were told as children not to tell anybody as it would bring reproach upon the congregation, therefore he was left to molest others as he wasn't dealt with legally. How do you defend that all too common scenerio?
I actually had this post in paragraphs but it didn't come out that way for some reason, sorry. -

My sister is DF'd
by Badger inok...my sis is a few years younger than me...she was a loyal jw and even took to counseling me for things like watching movies.
then, she began to snap.
after her child was born, she saw that her husband was really, really abusive (he stopped being physical a long time ago, but he wasn't any nicer...he even forbade her from seeing our worldly mom.

When my kids were young, they're now 27 and 25, they had to go to the meetings with their dad and step mom. I was disfellowshipped and completely out. After a weekend with their JW stepmom they practically tripped over each other when they got home to my house to turn the Smurfs on. Their dad was physically and verbally abusing them and their stepmom (and me when I was married to him) but by all means they couldn't watch the Smurfs. Needless to say my children are not Wittys.
