  I am very sorry to hear about this. I went through the same experience a few weeks ago. My place felt dirty for a long time. Knowing that had rifled through my pockets, I had to dry clean my suits before I'd wear them again. As I sat staring at the mess they left (a nice pile of my stuff dumped in the middle of the floor) I could swear I could see ghost images of the ^*%&^ lowlifes.

  I was fortunate they didn't take too much of sentimental value and I feel terrible that they did that to you.

  Why the difference in JW approach in US/Canada/UK etc

  reading here today a recurring thought came to me - why such huge differences in the organisation approach country by country?

  it seems to me that in a lot of cases the actions of the congs/elders/branch in the us is fanatical if not lunatic whereas reports from canada show a milder approach, as with posts re issues in the uk - is this the case and if so what do you thing causes it - .

  reading the many elder abuse issues from the us indicates a lot (not all) of the elders there are absolute stark raving mad - power control freaks with little intelligence or learning - are things worse there than in other places?

  Ray:

  A couple that come to mind that are worth checking out.

  1. Penny Skolski and the Unity Band. For the most part a reggae band but Penny has an amazing range of styles. She is a cross between Janis Joplin meets Tina Turner meets Bob Marley. She does a kick ass Bobby Mcgee ala Janis. Does a great job on Amanda Marshall songs too. They have one CD out so far half cover songs the rest original.

  2. Randy Dawson. One of the best male vocals in the West end. But his biggest talent is his guitar playing. I would rank him with most lead guitarists in the Industry. He does gigs with rock bands but has a Saturday gig just him, a barstool and an acoustic guitar.

  3. Wheat Kings - a great tribute band covering Tragically Hip with some of their own stuff. I go see them once or twice a year as they play the area.

  Yes what happened to the native populations of North & South American is a terrible tragedy and atrocity. Few would disagree with that. But equal blame for this goes to France, England Spain Portugal and all other countries who citizens became 'Americans' who continued the atrocities. So Dutch, Irish, Scandenavians, Italians, Germans, Greeks, Turks, all contributed.

  But how many generations have to share the blame of their forefathers before it can become history without it being shoved in the face of people never actually involved in the atrocity?

  It is the thinking of the Neo-Nazi's who still bring up that Jews were responsible for the death of Jesus and use it to justify their continued hatred of that race/religion. Or would it be fair to still condemn Germans for what they did in WW2? Would I be justified by your reasoning to continue to blame every Japanese person for what happened in WW2?

  I have not seen anyone take this stance and it set the tone for this to be yet another anti-American thread. As if there haven't been enough of them already.

  i have a question.

  i am not a jw but i was in a jw chat room earlier today and had something in my profile regarding a dying angel.

  a few people asked me if i understood the significance of a dead angel and before i could say no, i was kicked out of the room.. i didn't know angels could even die... in any religion.

  Viv's comments were pretty bang on, but if you were never a jw you might not understand.

  The JW's believe that God is going to destroy all of mankind except for the JW's (and recently they now say 'and those god judges worthy that perhaps weren't exposed to the preaching work' that they do). This battle of Armageddon is supposed to take place in 1914, 1975, 1984, 'real soon now'.

  After this all those remaining will turn the earth into a paradise. They can do this because Satan (head honcho of the 'fallen angels) and all his cohorts will be placed in an abyss for 1,000 years. then God will release them all so he can test humanity again and kill more humans that fail the test. After he is done killing off the humans he will then kill all those bad angels.

  See God has done all this before. Remember about the flood of Noah's day (story). God killed everyone back then too because of the bad angels and their big bad offspring. That was a test run for his killing 5 billions people 'real soon now'

  Pretty whacked eh?

  Trouble with pointing out others errors (especially 60 year old errors) is that it opens you up to the same scrutiny.

  You might want to do some research into Canada's role in developing some of these very weapons you seem to be condemning the US for using.

  All countries are guilty of committing or contributing towards atrocities against innocents. Throughout the ages this has proven true and each time it was justified as self defense, proactive measures to prevent (invasion, attack, etc) or the person was a threat to the accepted religion or individual ruler of the country.

  2003 is no different except voices of dissent now have an international forum to be heard, but unfortunately history often records the propaganda of the victor and not the voice of dissent or propaganda of the loser.

  Embarrased by some of the past actions of Canadians but am honest enough to admit them

  Big Interview coming up..help...any tips?

  You obviously know your stuff so that isn't the issue. Be confident in your accomplishments to date.

  For the Power Point presntation a few tips, keep it to 3-4 points per slide. Keep them as points or else you will be glued to the screen instead of to your audience.

  You know the requirements better than we would but consider making your presentaion more about logistics or managing acute care facility as opposed to acute care nursing itself.

  Looking at each member of the panel as you are talking will demonstrate confidence on your part. These people are not looking for a follower but someone to lead and they will need to see confidence on your part. Note I ddin't say eye contact. That intimidates both you and the panel member. Look at the face but prolonged direct eye contact is not necessary as a presenter.

  Last but not least breathe. Actually put down in your notes to breathe. Before you even start to speak, take a deep breathe, exhale then another, then start talking. This relaxes the vocal chords allowing for better resonance which exudes confidence.
