i attended an ex witness group for the first time a couple of weeks ago and a comment made was that jw's are just like any other religion (cathlics, lutherans) in that when someone breaks away from it the same reactions are made from the persons family and ex members such as not talking to them, claiming that the new religion is wrong, dismissal from the congregation because of wrongdoing (fornication) and other cultish stuff that the jw's inflict on us ex's.
is anyone else from another religion that can verify this?

NO! I was raised a Catholic and my Mother was a strong Catholic, and then switched over to the Wts. Her Catholic family accepts all of us and for the most part respected my Moms choice to change JWism. They didn't like it and tried to change our minds, but they NEVER came even remotely close to shunning us. Had the situation been reversed and JW family members become Catholic they would have been shunned. BIG difference.

me: hey, babe, can you tell me again why jw do not celebrate birthdays?.
hubby: well, only two are mentioned in the bible, and on both, men were killed.. me: well, herod and pharoah killed men whenever they felt like it right?
The latest "light" is that oral sex is a conscience matter, and that each individual Christian has to consider their own personal standing before Jehovah and that it's NOT the elders place to determine what is acceptable between marriage partners. Something to that effect.
Unless the bulb has changed recently on that.

well technically anyone in a religion other than our own is an apostate.
Man...if I ever I start to get that ole warm fuzzy feeling about the witnesses again, I read that crap, and it reminds me what freakin' jerks the witness are. They are such pompous asses. And cowards too. They never even have the guts to truly defend their beliefs. If you think differently from them. you are an apostate... someone who has turned against God. The witnesses are the biggest test I have in obtaining peace of mind and unconditional forgiveness. They stir up such hatred in me that it's extremely difficult to let it go. They are such damn annoying bastards....I think THEY are the ones from Satan...if anybody is.

I don't know. They are a powerful organization with a boatload of money. They've already shut down two sites (that i know of) already.

they pressured their own followers into not setting up websites to promote the jw religion,they have demonised the internet as if on every webpage there is someone ready to destroy the faith of a jw, and they are monitoring websites that are hostile to them to see if they can find ways to legally close them down.
