Yes, early 40's here. Now that you mention it, elimating that song "Dedication" did cause a stir. I also remember my best friend and I making up more verses to it like... "Take my head" .... "Take my butt" ... etc ....

it's been a number of years since i've been to a district convention.
do they still have the preferred hotels list they distribute in january?
i remember how some would purposely leave the hall early that night so they could get home and call in their reservations before everyone else.
I always avoided them. I would try to get a place near the beach or something and not have to worry about what I'm wearing or doing. I know a lot of people feel the same way and just find excuses to get to another place.

did anyone ever question the terminology often used when there is an organizational change ?.
they often will mention that "some brothers consciences have permitted them" to do this or that, thereby changing or relaxing the current viewpoint on an issue.
i always wondered if some "had" actually done the thing prior to the article being published, wouldn't they have been df'd or da'd.

i was just reflecting today on how wonderful it is to be freed from the watchtower way of thinking.
no more feelings of not being good enough and pressure to do more.
no more boring meetings to go to week after week.
Even for those of us in the organization, it is so much more refreshing to take a more objective view of life without the blinders on.
I particularly notice it around my family. They are in the New York and New England area, I live in the Southeast. When I visit now, I notice how depressing they really are. The constant "look how terrible things are in the world" thing really gets old. And always looking at the bad side of things really gets depressing.
I especially don't miss feeling that sick sense of glee when I read or see a major tragedy in the world. Now I tend to think more of how the affected people can be helped than the previous " well, it's just a part of Satan's system" logic.

I've been to Jackson and Memphis on business several times. Both have places called "Catfish Cabin" as I recall. The food there is great.

There is a song I think was called "Dedication" that I remember when I was a kid that has always stuck in my head. I can't get rid of it. It was one of those little half page songs.
Each verse started with a "Take my hands .... or "Take my feet ... or Take something or other.
They always played it for the Memorial as I recall. It was probably one of those songs they considered part of Christendom because it was gone about 2 song books ago.
I wonder if anyone else remembers it ??

I see little merit in the health issues when legalization of drugs is considered.
I feel a far stronger argument has to do with effect on society of people having to commit far greater crimes to obtain the money to buy the illegal drugs (that obviously cost far more than if they were sold legally).
Well over half of the people in the US prison system are on drug related offenses: Murder, Robbery, Burglary and of course those involved directly or indirectly in the sale of the illegal products.
I would rather see an addict in a controlled environment get loaded than doing so on the street corner. I would do the same with prostitution: legalize it like they do in many countries in Europe or here in parts of Nevada. I would rather see a guy (or girl) walk into a building for sex than hanging out on the corner.

I'm American but have done the Fosters thing since I was able to buy beer here on my own (18 years of age). My father would only buy Black Label or Knickerbocker.

The Belgium ales are good for a special occasion but way too expensive (at least for me) to drink on a daily basis.

Definitely legalize weed (and I don't use it).
Having the legal system tied up with someone growing some pot in their back yard is crazy. I would treat it like alcohol. You can grow a small amount in your home for prsonal use or buy it legally. That way, it would be taxed and money put INTO law enforcement instead of using those same resources to fight it.

What has been mentioned at the meetings, if anything, about the show tonight? Was mention made of it last week? Any warnings? Any comments on how to deal with it when speaking to the general public?
