Can psychic energy heal?
by kenpodragon inrecently i was watching a documentary on this woman who claimed that she could heal people with the power of her mind.
the documentary went into interviewing people about their experiences, and many of them actually had medical signs of improvement that could be documented and shown.
while watching this, i was seeing it as a example of psychic energy healing someone?

Robyn,
I can't answer your question because I have no proof of anyone healed because of belief. In fact, Randi investigated over 100 people who claimed they were healed. What he found out was interesting. He even conferred with their doctors if they had one, with their permission. They all fell into one of 3 catagories; 1. Not healed; 2. Never had the problem in the first place 3. Dead. Not one "healed." The problem is that people can go off of possible life saving treatment because of a false belief that they are healed. That's their perogative, though.
However, I believe requiring evidence is not proof of a closed mind, just a scientific approach. If anyone can show proof, I'm willing to accept it and they can be $1 million richer. Everyone wins! I guess it just depends on what kind of evidence satisfies a person. It's funny that Sylvia Browne and John Edwards don't take Randi up on the offer. Heck, it should be a piece of cake for them.
And honestly, thanks for the love. :-) Here is some back..........

rem, you stole my idea for a post. You must be psychic. :-) I have read several of Randi's books and read his column on the website every Friday. An outstanding man with an outstanding offer.

my dumb boring JW experience
by DanTheMan ini gave a very brief version of my wt experience when i was a newbie here, but i thought i'd share the details a little more now that i've gained some distance and feel that i can post more objectively about it.
i was born in november of 1970. i grew up in a dysfunctional family (like everybody).
my mother was particularly controlling, she was extremely insecure and therefore expected perfection from her children, lest they reflect badly on her and cause her to doubt herself.

An outstanding story, dan. Thanks for sharing it. You learned a lot about yourself! Trust your instincts. You'll make mistakes like we all do, but you'll learn from them and continue to grow. You reminded me of a great Steppenwolf song, Best of What You Got:
Words and music by John Kay, Michael Wilk and Rocket Ritchotte
Up at dawn, on your feet, fall into line
Life is short, get on with it, stop wastin' time
Thriving on adversity's a tough row to hoe
But may as well face the fact that you got to go
Ain't no use in sighin', make the best of what you got
Ain't no use denyin' make the best of what you got
Got to keep on tryin' so here we go, ready or not.
Don't be fooled by fashion, double talk or double speak
Don't loose your compassion, it's wearing thin
We need it now, for it's sink or swim.
Dues are non-deductable, you got to pay
But dreams are indestructible and won't fade away
So make your move, make your mark, don't wait your turn
Get a life, then give a little back to the world
Ain't no use in sighin' make the best of what you got
Ain't no use denyin' make the best of what you got
Got to keep on tryin' so here we go, ready or not.
Don't be silent, agitate, yes, rock the boat
Speak your mind, say your peace, go cast your vote
When you see wrong don't look away, go do what's right
Never take it lying down, stand up and fight
Got to keep on tryin' 'n make the best of what we got
Ain't no use in sighin' make the best of what we got
Ain't no use denyin' the time is now, ready or not.
Don't be silent, agitate, make the best of what you got
Don't be silent, agitate, make the best of what you got

I believe the president is now Don Adams. That's what the NY website (newspaper) that posted the WTBTS as 34th largest in NYC for private companies said. I can't answer your second question.
I'm in the addicted phase you were in to this website. :-)

by dmouse inimmediately after the panorama episode which dealt with the jehovahs witness problem with paedophiles i contacted my local mp, patricia hewitt, to voice my concerns.

Hang in there, people. I'm with SaintSatan. As much BS as the WT spews, we don't want to help create an oppresive government, which would be even worse. I'm in the US and the policy here is the same. They just flat won't get involved in controlling religions, but the criminal and civil avenues are there. To be "free," which we obviously aren't, (a book in itself), we always need less government intervention in my way of thinking. If people are retarded enough to join a cult or drink gasoline, I say go for it. I don't want to be regulated any more than I am. I applaud them going to talk to the representatives of the WT, though. Maybe put a little scare in them. As for us, nail 'em with lawsuits and criminal charges. "You can hit 'em with a 2 x 4, or an 8 1/2 x 11." Guess which gets there attention better? :-)
