Birthday's are a good way to start Tex. Thats what we did, and then we progressed to other holidays.
Our kids will never feel that guilt like we may, because they were never JW's, ain't it great!
Best wishes!
for those of you who grew up in 'the troof', after leaving, did you find it hard or uncomfortable in any way to celebrate holidays and bithdays since you had no ties to them whatsover?
if so, how did you deal with it?

i wanted to hear the president's speech tonight, but can't stand listening to the man.
he has a prepared speech but he keeps saying nuc-you-lar instead of nuc-le-ar.
i can't stand it.. you would think his people would walk him through correct pronunciation.
Hey, dont be so hard on good ole George Bush, it could be worse, we have to live with that Canadian Icon of a Leader, Jean Chretien.
His idea of a war against Iraq, would be to fire hippies and then hockey players out of a cannon!
i'm new here, and would just like to thank simon and people like him (franz for one) who have helped others, through various forms of media, to make thier own educated descisions on how to deal with all the jw issues in their lives.
when i was growing up in a jw family, we never had the opportunity to get "second opinions" on any doubts we had from any source.. luckly, with resources such as this website, and others like it, i have been able to make one of the most important discisions in my life, and that is how to bring up my kids spiritually and mentally?
i had to be 100% sure, in my mind, that i was doing the right thing.. i hope others who we all know that are searching for thier "answers" will be as fortunate as many of us here.
I like the name Pharisee, because that is what my father would call "the almighty ones", elders, CO's, etc. when they would make a "do as I say, not as I do" comment, or when they would over sensationalize an obscure WTB rule or regulation, while blatently ignoring the most important moral or commandment. You know the type!

Hi all,
I'm new here, and would just like to thank Simon and people like him (Franz for one) who have helped others, through various forms of media, to make thier own educated descisions on how to deal with all the JW issues in their lives.

currently i am unofficially da.
everyone will talk to me if i run into them but they don't try to get in contact with me or see me.
i live in a rural area on one of the main roads so they will see my house.
Trust me, put up the tree, you will be glad you did. While your at it put a pumkin up for Holloween. I have this saying: "Don't mess with Tradition." These are traditions from our culture, people take things way too seriously, have fun with it.

Its funny you bring up this topic at this time. My dad called last night and he plans to come and visit me from out of town in November or December. I warned him that if he comes to visit in December, not to be offended by the "Holiday Spirit" that we will be displaying. Then he replies "so you feel guilty" I said "no, I feel guilty for you!" That ticked him off. You see he has not gone to meetings for years, he thinks he's "out" of the borg, but mentally he's not their yet. His wife was out for years, but the September 11th thing got her "spooked" so she's back to meetings just in case. (makes me laugh).
We started participating in all the holidays several years ago , and we have a great time with it. You dont realize how fun and harmless it really is until you experience it for yourself.
would you throw a pebble at a boulder.
in my contact with my witness family i am often confronted with several subjects that make me want to bite my lip and say to myself "don't bother!
" as i realize they would never listen to my thoughts anyway.
Beck,
Lunatic Fringe is also a song from Red Rider. Good song.

Kenpodragon: Good thread, I have been reading yours for some time now and they are always very good. Thanks!
Beck: I'm on the "Lunatic Fringe" but I wear my zipper in the front if that's what you mean?
i know of so many people that blame everything on the fact that they were witnesses.have a lousy job?
it's because you were a witness.
angry over anything?
Being a JW did'nt ruin my life because I was one of the lucky ones that did'nt grow up in a "fanatical" witness family. My parents were very open minded, and never allowed the fanatisism to dictate our discissions for the future, such as career education etc. There are however others that I know that have had their future potentials severely reduced, due to the negative spin that the WTBS put on any kind of extra education. There are many areas where JW's life have been ruined. Many I know have not travelled or experienced different cultures and/or ways of thinking, because they could do so in the "New System", why waste valuable "preaching time".
Just a couple area's right off the top of my head.

I think the best pebble's you can throw is by succeding in your personal and/or family life without the borg. They expect you to completly fall apart without their guidance, and when you show that you are stable without them it starts to put doubts in their minds.
