Existing in the nature of God

i preached to a jw and they used the following verse against me:

phi 2:6

"who existing in the nature of god, did not consider being equal to god something to be held onto," he said that this was one of the texts that disproved the trinity because it does not state that he was god, but that he existed in the nature of god: divine.

Thanks for your answer myxomatosis, it's pretty cool how to lead them in their own Bible to a contradiction. But, it still remains unanswered what Philippians 2:6 means. Well, I am going to post several translations:

(Analytical Literal Translation) who existing in the nature of God, did not consider being equal to God something to be held onto,

(American Standard Version) who, existing in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God a thing to be grasped,

(Bible in Basic English) To whom, though himself in the form of God, it did not seem that to take for oneself was to be like God;

(Contemporary English Version) Christ was truly God. But he did not try to remain equal with God.

(King James Version) Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

Im reading a book called Albert Barne's Notes on the Bible, and he seems to give a pretty good explanation yet it is kind of long and I haven't finished reading the section. I'll post his comments on this verse when I finish reading it. Meanwhile, POST SOMETHING GUYS!!! Lol.

aborting all the baby girls

60 minutes tonight, special on aborting all the baby girls in india, it has become an epidemic so severe they have placed a ban on tests that predetermine the childs sex.

now women are going underground to find out the sex of the child and abort it if it is a female.

this has caused an imbalance in the population and men are having a difficult time finding wives.

It's mostly like what happens in China. A male child is able to bring honor to the family name while a female child is only grown up to be wed with someone. Consequently, everyone wants a male child. When a child is found to be a female, most of the time they are thrown into a well or killed in some way or another. This is causing a imbalanced male to female ratio and I think that within 10 or 20 years women are going to be scarce in China. I am just summarizing something I read a while ago, the facts may be wrong, but the idea is the same.

JW marriages: happy/unhappy

i've been wondering how many jws have gotten married too quickly, without knowing their prospective "mate" well enough, and have ended up really unhappy.

it always seemed to me that a couple would be dating for, like, 6 or 9 months and get engaged, have a 9 month engagement and be married; often because they bought the "no sex before marriage" garbage.

i'm sure that there *are* happy jw marriages out there; and certainly being unhappily married isn't the sole property of jws.

Like I said, the happy JW marriage that I talked about is happy because they do not abide by the Watchtower rules. They don't frequent that much on their field service, Bible study, and all that stuff. The husband has a great job (mainly because he was not a Witness, and I don't think he is fully one yet, and wanted to be something in life). The couple understands each other pretty well and they don't feel pressure from going to the meetings because I think if they just decide not to go sometimes. Lol.

i've been reading the angels: god's secret agents by billy graham and i found something interesting about when jesus died on the cross.

he says that when jesus died, he was abandoned by men, angels, and by the father who's eyes are too pure to look at sin, and in the expiatory agony of the son he turned his face away.

that's why jesus said: my god, my god, why hast thou forsaken me?

Well, I mean, this guy's got a Doctorates degree in theology, although the statement did seem kind of weird. I mean, how could God turn his face away from someone?

I've been reading The Angels: God's Secret Agents by Billy Graham and I found something interesting about when Jesus died on the cross. He says that when Jesus died, he was abandoned by men, angels, and by the Father who's eyes are too pure to look at sin, and in the expiatory agony of the Son He turned his face away. That's why Jesus said: My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Matthew 27:46. What do you all think of this comment from Graham? Just wanted to know you guy's opinion.

i just agreed to go with my jw friend for the heck of it, but what may i expect from going?

anything interesting you guys want to point out that usually happens in one of these reunions?

Lol, of course I am not going to convert. I think I am strong in what I believe. I'm a Christian, Baptist denomination. Things were alright, the preacher at my church is way better than all of the ones who came up, and the hymns are way far better in my church with less people. Well, thanks for your posts guys.

JW marriages: happy/unhappy

Well, I know a happy JW marriage. They are not devout JWs, or not from what I know, but they are pretty happy. It's like a perfect couple. Maybe what makes them happy is that they really don't live by the guidelines of the JW life. Lets just say that some rules are bent, and others are broken.

Higher Powers, Romans 13:1-7

i was very bored and after reading some stuff from david reed on the flip-flopping of the higher powers in romans 13, i decided to check it out myself in the publications (not that i doubted it, but just wanted to get the full quotes).

i put what i found into a word file for my personal information, but i guess i'll post it here since i have nothing better to do with it.

i guess this has already been covered extensively, but i'll put it here for those that yet haven't seen it.
