Being an oldie, I am puzzled by the changes. From my recall from my parents, don't quote me, but that prior to the 1940s one could take blood. then when vaccines first were developed, the watchtower trashed that idea because they didn't believe in bacteria. but used the fact it was made in horse blood, the issue why vaccines could not be taken and from there, blood transfusions. My goodness, how slack, now people can actually save their lives from bits of blood, in our day - no fractions were allowed at all and certainly not transplants as that was cannibalism! I wonder if people can now commit only 1/4 of adultery or become only a 1/4 apostate and save the DF procedure?. We had JW elders come to our ED Department to "explain" about blood and transplants. when I raised about not having transplants because of cannibalism - they told me that was not true - JW never believed that (or Armageddon coming in 1874 or 1914, or Moses resurrected in 1925, Armageddon in 1954, 1975 etc ad nauseum.

smoking gun??
by Crazyguy indoes anyone have the smoking gun that connects the governing body to hypocrisy with the blood issue??
what i mean is, so far every thing ive found in their writing's they say no blood as far as the major 4 components but then say all other fractions, synthetics are a conscience matter seeming to dismiss themselves from responsibility.. so when you try to explain to a stupid jw the hypocrisy they just say well it up to the conscience of the person taking the blood fractions etc.. need help..

So very sad to hear that. Intelligence does not protect. Did she have any crisis or loss in her life in the last two years?

I am free
by new hope and happiness inyes the title of my first post was a little negative " shatterd faith" and the truth is i dont feel like that at all.. its wonderful being in a state of not knowing as it makes hope possible.
and what i now learn i will learn from within and also enjoy doubt.. so why do i call this post " i am free"?

Beautiful. When we left, my father said I would end up on the street as a prostitute. Lovely encouragement. Instead, I have 5 years of Uni behind me, had a good career and despite difficulties on the way am so very very grateful that I am free. Sorry, WT society - I did not end up at all like you wished me to- but instead helped many on their way into your slave pit to stay out of it, along with a few friends and relatives as well!

thank you for sharing. I am new to the site. My husband and I are also 3rd gen ex WT slaves, and actually own the original 1874 volume of the Watchtower. What an interesting read. Unfortuantely or fortunately we could not slide out but DF. Both coming from JW families - now had no one. I cried for two years. Take your time. No hurry.. do your own learning at your own pace. Sounds like you have a great family and sad about the extended family.

British zone visit from David Splane - a report from the special meeting in Glasgow
by slimboyfat inwell i went to a "special meeting" in the armadillo today where a 2 & 1/2 hour programme was relayed from london at 1pm.
apparently the letters of invitation only went out a month or so ago and not all congregations were invited.
there were 2,900 of us from around scotland.

Thank you for the report. I thought the checklist most interesting, creating more "structure". After I left the JW 30 years ago and went to Uni and did a lot of research into brain washing - 11 of the 12 steps of brainwashing were done by JWs. The only difference was that in communist brainwashing, they break you down first. For the JWs we trolled from door to door finding broken people. 1. Break them down. 2. Isolate them from friends, relatives (no xmas, birthdays). 3. Give them propaganda material to read. 4. do not allow other materials (no other Bibles or Christian literature). 5. Focus only on the beautiful future. 7. Do not allow commiserating over the present. 8. Keep them so busy they do not have time to think. 9. No looking back at the past, constant warnings that the person would be worse off to revert. There were another 3 which I cannot recall at the moment - but essentially 11 out of 12 on the checklist. Also pushing young people to identify themselves as JWs - just means they will become generally marginalised by the wordly kids creating an us and them situation. Once you have that, the JW kids are more strongly held with "us". How clever and disgusting. No freedom at all. . so sorry to hear about your gorgeous lady - thought it was going to lead to a happy ending...

Need Help - Parent in ICU
by AudeSapere indf parent is in hospital icu and surgeon wants to give blood.
parent is df for almost 20 and firmly refused blood for personal reasons (spiritual).. .
my concern is that parent is taking strong stand based on outdated jw gb hlc guidelines.

Another tragic situation. to JGNAT - thank you for the update on what is allowed. In our day, 30+ years ago, absolutely nothing from blood was permitted. This DF person, in my experience having been out for so long, is that unless DF people have been debriefed/deprogrammed in some way with regard to JW doctrines, they still hold to the same beliefs regardless of how long they have been out. S/He may think it is his/her own conscience, but not so, the brainwashing is alive and firmly planted in his brain. Wish you the best.

Having stood by a bedside and watch one of our JW patient's die was very difficult for me as an ex-JW. I have now been on both sides. On two occasions with my father standing firm, surrounded by "support elders" or was that the minders, and a newborn baby with reasonably severe spina bifida who was going to need multiple surgeries including court ordered blood, I supported my JW sister, to allow that baby to die. Since coming out of JW have had considerble guilt. But we regularly get patients in ED "refusing" all sorts of treatment.
The obese patient who has to have stents for the second/third time, because of his lifestyle, is that not costing the nation as well ? Millions use up medical resources as a result of alcohol, obesity, cigarettes and sexual lifestyle. One specialist I knew said his tactic with JWs was keep away all family members and particuarly elders, and left to their own, provided it could be kept hidden, more than half of his patients accepted blood. There was an instance where Bethel tried to arrange for a sympathetic lawyer to attend a speicalist surgeon consulation with a JW woman. The lawyer was to provide the moral support to ensure this lady insisted on no blood!. How is this their own conscience? If there was no DF as a result of blood transfusion, and just a suggestion or just their conscience, then possibly many more would have it. Sad, sad situation.
