Jehovah's Witness and Birthdays

i know that jehovah's witness say only two birthday celebrations are spoken of in the bible and that neither were held by persons who worshiped jehovah.

or were there any other celebrations that were simular to birthday celebrations?.

inquiring minds need to know.

Biblical references ?

i have noticed that a lot of you here quote references of history from scripture, so my question is this.

if you say that the bible is not the true word of god then how can it even be a true word of history.

Do any of you think in relation to prophecies, that mankind has something to do with these prophecies coming true? I think men make these things happen, possibly unknowingly. Its like if you believe in an idea so much even if its a falsehood YOU will make it happen. Mankind always has the capacity to affect any given outcome to any given "prophecy"......just my opinion :)

Physical and/or Spiritual

no doubt all (with few and rare exceptions) believe that the physical world exists.

however, what i should like to know is, how many here believe that a spiritual world exists?

and, if you believe that a spiritual world exists, do you believe that the two worlds (or universes, call it what you like) each exist separately and distinct one from the other?

I have difficulty accepting the notion that the human race & or the earth were simply a random happening at the time of creation. When the bible states that everything was brought into existance in six days, "days" I believe is not litteral days but the time between the beginning & the end which we are obviously involved in right now.

I had a wierd experience this morning...

it happened about 8:30 this morning, which is pretty early for me since i don't usually go to bed before 3-4am and never wake up before 11am.

i was cruising along the only coastline in florida that has bluffs, it's called "scenic highway" in pensacola, fl.

I am leaving my wife...

everything happened so fast, 1999 back from patterson, 2000 inactive and no longer an elder, 2001 smoking everything that planet earth offers, and now in love with a girl for a couple of months.

i feel sad but liberated.

so many people who come out of the borg are so depressed and angry and freaked out?????

i have been out for 7 years now and i am happier than i have ever been in my life and was from the very first moment i left!

the only reason i even go into ex-jw groups is i like to make fun of them and other exs are the only ones who understand what i am talking about when i make a funny comment??

Bona- I must say that after reading your post, a little fear crept up in me. Having lost faith in the bible itself seems like an "off the deep end" kind of revelation to me. Ive been seeing alot of that in many of the posts on this board. It seems the WTBTS hs done so much wrong in peoples lives, that many just go to the opposite extreme. You said in your post that your life has gotten harder. Without a basic belief or faith in the bible, I would say the road ahead will never become any easier for you. Please understand that Im not trying to make you feel any worse than you already do but as I read your post, a sense of urgency rose up within me to share my thoughts with you. In the future I can share with you my story if you would like as Im not into preaching to those who could really care less.

Paid Holidays: should they or shouldnt they?

i think jws should have to work on paid holidays.

i work with 3 of them & they even accept the annual holiday bonus as a gift from the company.....hmmmmm.

what do you all think about this.

Thanks for the welcome!! There seems to be a wealth of great info here, I hope to gain more insight.

I should let it be known that I am not a former JW, I just feel as if I have had a "calling" to help JWs in particular, to a better way through Christ our lord & savior.

Greeting Cards - Seasons Greetings

i know that public organizations such as businesses should be respectful of religions and most don't send out cards stating "merry christmas".

how about "season's greetings"?

if you interpret it as the winter season (skating, snowmen, etc..) should that be considered offensive.

Ive just posted on a similar matter. My company sends out a monetary gift around Christmas every year that reads: HAPPY HOLIDAYS! on the front & the JWs I work with gladly accept it & spend it on themselves as would I. Im non denominational & have found new life in Christ.

I feel an overwhelming desire to help these folks but its difficult when they are constantly contadicting themselves. This happens from literally one minute to the next!! Im frustrated!!
