my most painful confession
note to simon: i will use some expletives, but i hope that they will be retained as this is intended to be an otherwise civil and thoughtful post to all my fellow ex-jws.
please read on, as this is most painful.
I've only been here for a little while. But, I have found your posts to be kind and thoughtful.
I hope for your speedy recovery and that we will see you here again very soon!
Ciao,

Just a casual viewing of Ging / Elhoim's posts show the grammatical similarity. Elsewhere's post more or less confirms it. However, is it possible that it might be 2 different (illiterate) posters using the same machine? I'm still not up on the occult workings of computers. I'm a third world kinda guy. Even FIRE (shudder) still scares me!
Anyway, even though it looks like Ging/Elhoim will not be posting further, he can still look.
Isn't it wonderful that drip by drip we are gaining members now that the "official" WT board has closed down? I don not mean to be sarcastic here. I think that the kind response of many of the posters here is a good thing and that many really negative and nasty people from the WT will be shamed and made to change their attitudes by such a response.
I think that the stronger responses were pretty much all well thought out and funny. It is good for new ones to get a dose of both sides of the "real world".
Personally, I'm with Farkel

i have seen a lot about the wt teaching on being careful about one's associates.. i feel that i am discerning enough to know what a good or a bad associate for me would be.
i try to be kind to all and keep my judgements fo myself (yes, i judge as to with whom i will associate or whether or not what someone does is something i wish to participate in or be associated with.).
i teach my son to be selective as to his associates.

I teach my son to be selective as to his associates. I do believe that our associates define us, at least in the eyes of others. And I believe that "bad associations can spoil useful habits." Who was it that said, "Tell me who your friends are and I'll tell you what you are"?
What do you think? Do you limit yourself as to your associates?
Marcos
kinda had a thought today: .
ever see that movie called force 10 from navarone?
it's about a u.s. commando squad (escorted by some british agents...you know, they always need the u.s.'s help...heh heh) in ww2 given the task of destroying a bridge in europe as to prevent a nazi crossing.
Hi Amazing and all.
I think what you say is true about the WT trying to mainstream.
In time the Watchtower will be forced to change or go out of business ... my guess is that they will evolve into something closer to mainstream, the way the Mormons are doing it ...
However, please bear in mind that, just like the Mormons, any change the WT pretends is just "window dressing". The Mormons haven't changed any of their basic teachings, they have just taken them out of the window so to speak. It benefits them to look like everyone else.
The WT will continue to be a false prophet just like Joseph Smith and all of the subsequent "prophets" of the LDS. Maybe I am being too hard on both of these organizations and the other cults.
Ok. I repent; I now know in my heart that Russell, Rutherford, Knorr, Frantz, Joseph Smith (et al, ad nauseum) are TRUE PROFITS! Were it not so, they would not have been able to build such large, influential organizations to the god Mamon.
This's enough, I just can't hold on to my sarcasm long enough to be funny.

very few people, if any, respond to it.
i remember when i first wrote my life story on this website and only one person responded to it.
i remember getting really pissed off.
Swan,
You made my day with your comment:
It's easy to get discouraged in this old system when nobody responds to our message. That's why we need to persevere; so that we can get to Simon's new system!
Thanks,
Marcos
this is my first introduction post and my second post all together.
i hid in the corner for some time, just watching.
i was raised from about the age of five in the "truth".
Welcome to the board.
Interesting post. Sometimes it does seem that there is something less than a wecoming attitude for ideas that run counter to the general opinion. And, while it is true that there are some here who's main purpose seems to be to disrupt, most of us are sincere about trying to help others who need good advice. Most of the health advice you saw on the other thread usually ended with an exhortation to go see a doctor.
Personally, I could do without such graphic posts but that is the nature of a board like this one. And, who knows, this might be the only source of advice and encouragement that some people have?
You said:
I think that as Witness's we were subtly programmed to hate and despise other than our own; and as ex-JW's we often carry that programming with us.
Excellently stated! That one has repeatedly bitten me in the a** for a lot of years. The legacy of dogmatic, black and white thinking! I do believe it is good to be strong in what we believe. But it is, at the very least, harmful to insist that everyone see things our own way. As you mention further on, regarding predjudices:
As I become conscious of mine and begin the sometimes slow process of shedding them, I find I am more at peace. Life is brighter. I find that evil and suffering are often carried in my pocket; and are something I can discard.
It has also been my experience that "lightening up" and letting others find their own way gives me a lot more peace in my life.
Thank you for your post. I look forward to reading many more.

did anyone watch dateline last night?
the expose' on pastor hinn was exactly what i would have expected.
mike
OOOOOH, be careful, y'all.
I think I remember Hinn or one of his lackeys saying that God would curse and strike dead ANYONE who criticized his ministry!
HELLO...
Anyone still out there???

there is a lot of talk about the wts wealth, and even perhaps the idea that they are running out of money, hence the reduction at bethel.. i grew up a witness, so most of the time i really didn't have money to give.
i really preferred toys and things like that.
as i got older, and got a job as a teenager, then again, my money was spent on more expensive toys, and spending money hanging out with friends.. i got married young, and stayed active as a witness for about 4 more years.
Well, for starters, one single gift of appoximately $112,000 for 4 years of Bethel service. Their word on the matter at the time we served, 1968 - 1972, was that our time was worth about $28,000 a year each (If memory serves).
Of course, during that time, I received the equivalent of a 4 year college degree in knowledge (also their words). And "free" room and board, scriptural counseling and the "loving" association with the brothers at Bethel. What a blessing!
In addition time spent in the FS and wear and tear no vehicles.
I still haven't fully recovered from my "blessing". I'm not that good at math, perhaps the fine brothers could calculate my total worth to them over a 20 year period

) i hit "refresh" to see what replies are to a topic or what new threads come up between every 5 to 15 mins......
) i hit this forum as soon as i wake up, read forum as i am eating breakfast, read forum again after i finished showering, hit forum while i am getting dressed, hit forum last minute before leaving for work and hit forum when i get home from work.. *passes on thread to the next poster*.
from the "hitting the refresh button" class.... yizuman.
You guys keep me up too late!
I do all the same things; I hit the "refrest" button often, I stay up late at night reading the posts and, if I have to miss a day, I go crazy because I'm BEHIND!
I come here first thing when I turn on the computer in the mornings and have to check several times a day to see if I've missed anything.
But, it is great therapy. I don't agree with everything I read here but, there are a lot of things I do agree with. Additionally, I learn something new every day. I've gone from thinking I was so unique to the realization that there are a lot of people out there who have gone through the same things.
I've had major problems with and caused by the WT. Things they have done to me and worse, things they did to my family. But, you know what? I feel like my life has been a cakewalk compared with some of the things I read here that many of you have experienced. Coming here made me realize what an evil organization the WT is. I just had no idea of the scale of their lies, deceit, and bullying.
I just hope I can post some things here that will be as inspirational as the things I have read. Keep it up! And thanks to all ou you.
Marcos
