Somewhere that intravenous drug users can swap their old needles for new ones, thus reducing rates of infection and the sharing of dirty needles which is the primary cause of HIV transmission amongst drug users.

Dawkins Interview; Atheism, Agnosticism, Etc.
by AlanF inthe following was forwarded to me, and i post it in its entirety, with a few edits for clarity, without comment.. ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ .
many of my friends are well aware that i'm not the slightest bit religious.
with other friends the subject has never come up - and might never have - i'm not much of a proselytizer.

Good article.
About 10 years ago I attended a debate between Dawkins and a Bishop of the Anglican Church (his name escaps me). Intriguingly, Dawkins confessed to having a hole in his life, one that left him feeling slightly empty. He assumed believers filled this with faith. Looks like he's now filled that hole.

What is the oldest witness publication you actually remember?
by AK - Jeff innot just one you have seen - or even researched since leaving.
but the oldest one you recall studying when you 'got the truth' or as a child?.
i remember "let god be true" - 'babylon the great has fallen'- and 'paradise restored - paradise regained' [the big orangish/pink book - hope i got the name right] - all 50's early 60's books.

I remember looking through the Paradise book as a child, but I loved the pictures. They were so fantastically fifties looking, sort of B-movie. I think my parents had labelled all the main characters as an aid to teaching me to read.
But the first bookstudy I recall was the yellow book with a blue embossed title I think. Guess it must have been God's Kingdom of a Thousand Years as previously mentioned. Was it based on Isaiah? Whatever, it was tedious.

How Do YOU Feel Knowing That YOU Were In A Cult?
by minimus infor years, i refused to think of the witnesses as a "cult".
too harsh and restrictive of a word for me......but there is no denying that we were all in a mind controlling cult.
are you embarrassed or uncomfortable knowing that you belonged to a cult just like the moonies and the branch davidians are/werw a cult?

What do you think of justice in the UK?
by dmouse inthere was a horrible story about a special-needs teacher this month who was subject to a campaign of violence and intimidation from local youths.
the police ignored her repeated requests for action and in desperation, when she again saw her car being vandalised, she ran out brandishing an air-pistol to scare the yobs off.
she was promptly arrested and sentenced to six months in prison.

Can Linda Walker's case really be held as an example of the quality of the judiciary? I'm not sure. While I think the sentence was disproportionate, I would also describe her action as the same.
The low conviction rate of rape cases can not be entirely blamed upon either the police or the CPS. Having recently been part of a jury for a rape case that would only convict the defendant of sexual assault when he confessed to having sex with her, albeit consensual, I have grave doubts about the justice meted out by your peers.

Do J.W.'s still spank their kids in Kingdom Hall libraries to punish them?
by hubert ini've heard a lot on this subject, and was wondering if it's a common practice?.
can you go to a meeting and almost always see some poor kid getting a walloping in the back room for talking or misbehaving at the meeting?
or is this a thing of the past?.

God, I must be bored to be looking up the WT CD! Here's a fairly recent comment on Proverbs 22v15 from the WT.
*** w02 3/1 p. 32 "Now, This May Hurt" ***The rod, in this instance, is a symbol of parental authority. It is true that few children like discipline. If it involves punishment of some sort, they may resent it. However, wise and loving parents look beyond the child?s hurt feelings to the eventual gain
There are one or two more recent references that are completely ambiguous as to what discipline comprises.

I vaguely recall a C.O. giving a talk that included comments on the relevant scripture. He said that the word translated rod could also mean crook, therefore it wasn't about physically chastising the child but guiding them or rescuing them. Maybe he got that from the WT you're thinking of Listener.
