Hey hey hey don't diss Anne so much! She's a busy little Royal and I like the hard callous edge she has just as much as i liked Diana for her glamour (or "it"), Fergie for her common-ness. They're soap opera for the world and I would miss them as much as an episode of Sunset Beach.

Princess Diana.....remember??!!
by ScoobySnax influffy i know.
but tonight i was thinking it must be almost 6 years since diana was killed in that car crash in paris, and i was thinking about the outpouring of grief that happened not just here, but around the world.
i never was one of the ones that went to london on the day of her funeral as at the time i was flying back from a holiday in turkey, but i remember it appearing in newspapers out there and people of different nationalities coming up to me and expressing their condolences, particulary this french bloke hugging me whilst i was sitting around the pool a couple of days after the crash!.

Middle East
by scotsman in.
as so many have pretty strong convictions about irag and the state of the middle east i was wondering if anyone had spent any time there.
i'm not suggesting that this is necessary to have an opinion on the current war.. and cruising down the nile, or day trips from cyprus don't count!

Yes, you always get a couple of attention seekers at Perth Convention wearing them, but most commonly they're worn at weddings. Some don't think they're appropriate for the platform and I have never seen one being worn a speaker. I recall some English halls being a bit circumspect of them even being worn for weddings.
But they must be tartan. I have one in dark grey tweed and some Witnesses went bananas just hearing about it.
Why do you ask?

He then went to France and climbed into bed with Nystassia Kinski....all of 16! That is statutory rape.
Are you sure that is rape in France? The age of consent in the UK is 16 and I have a feeling it's the same in most of Europe.
I am not trying to defend Polanski (even though I am a man which seems to imlpy immediate guilt). The Oscars are not a moral institution that has any right to make judgements upon the lives of artists. The profligate lives of many in Hollywood excludes them from taking such a position. If the industry is prepared to distribute The Pianist then the Oscars also have to deem it a potential nominee. If you were to argue that the films of Polanski should be banned in America on the grounds of him evading trial, that may make some sense, but I also seem to recall he wasn't alone that night and there was another well known actor present.
Again, What if he were a JW Elder? Would you say "it happened so long ago; lets purchase his product to show support?"
No, I doubt I would buy something from a Witness who was a paedophile, but a harder question for me would be whether I would by something from a company that employed that Witness. The Pianist is the product of a huge industry, will you boycott future films that have actors or technicians who have worked with Polanski, will you boycott the distributor of The Pianist?
I may as well also add that I find Hollywood and the Oscars repellent.

Where did you go on your last vacation? Sardinia
Where is the most Exotic place you have visited? Morocco
What place would you recommend to a single person? Manhattan or the High Atlas
What place would you recommend to a married couple? Paris/Florence
What place would you recommend to a family with children? Norway
Have any of you experience strange or unusual events during your travels? Being bombed in Kiryat Shemona on the Israeli/Lebanese border. Visiting a cult HQ in Brooklyn
Where is the next place you are going to go to (vacation)? Poolewe, Scotland (this weekend hooray!)
But the best holiday I had was cycling around the island of Corsica, and the most exotic experience was sailing at night across a bay on Milos beneath the Milky Way while trailing my fingers in the water and witnessing phospheresence as we headed to a restaurant for dinner.

Hi Teenyuck
Comparing the middle ages (or the middle east) to now does not hold water. What was legal then is not legal now....at least in most of the US...(Parts of Utah, Appilacia and the deep South )
Do you object to Polanski on grounds of criminality or abuse? Artists of the Renaissance may not have committed crimes but that does not mean that what they did was not highly abusive.

He got the Oscar for his art not the rape.
When you look paintings or sculpture, listen to classical music or read poetry do you cease to appreciate it because the artist had sex with a minor? Maybe we should remove the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

Is that by choice or through genetic predetermination?

I'm sorry, but you've misheard my tone. I am interested in the theory and am looking for books to read after my exams in May.
I confess to a little sarcasm earlier about your debating boast but it was intended lightheartedly.
So go on, spill on Dr Peck's theory.
